you have to prove you have a lifetime income for pensionado status, and every other category will require massive amoounts of documentation to prove you are worthy to reside here. and now you can’t even get a bank account in this country without being a resident. things change daily here and what we tell you today won’t necessarily apply tomorrow. check the http://www.residencyincostarica.com website — they have some new updates.

your argument is not true, except in your own mind. you take misogyny to a new height. i’ve shown a couple of my Tica friends your stance on women. after they stopped laughing, they just shook their heads and said you haven’t a real clue as to who wields the power in a Tico relationship. you only THINK it’s the man! you’re pretty funny, actually, with your blatant hatred of any women. get back to me in ten years, phil, and let’s see how you’re doing on the sex slave market. jajajajaja

my house here was constructed in such a way that is is a literal iron birdcage surrounded by cement block. when there is an earthquake, the entire house moves as one unit. having lived through 4 or 5 huge earthquakes (one was a 9.2), i’ve seen the destruction that is wrought from normal construction techniques.

omg. i feel completely sick. even the Wahhabi have a better view of women than you do, 2bncr. that is perhaps the most offensive, vile, chauvinist, anti-woman rant i have ever read in my life. all the traditional roles you talk about were created by MEN! you apparently have no clue as to the power women wielded millenia ago before men decided they were too threatened. you must be one of those extreme right-wingers to have such perverted views on women. poor you.

i’ve brought in literally a ton of stuff and never used the exemption, even when i brought in a travertine bathroom sink (declared the value on the form) and at the same time i brought in a turquoise-covered buffalo skull (also declared the value) and nobody every bothered with the exemption. what are you thinking of bringing that would force you to use this exemption?

well, here is where i finally agree 100% with 2bncr. (jajaja) shopping for a wife as though you are buying a washing machine is pretty sad. you need to hear some of the horror stories about men who just saw the beautiful latina and then got fleeced of everything he owned, after of course, he supported her parents, uncles, grandparents, step-children, and derelict hermanos. if you don’t speak fluent spanish, and your potential wife doesn’t speak fluent english, you have a huge problem. bigger than huge. women are not commodities, and if you’re thinking of “acquiring” one, she is also probably thinking of how to liberate you of some of your assets. and if she is of child bearing age, getting pregnant immediately is a slam dunk retirement plan, and there will be no running back to the US and leaving a costa rican baby behind. if she’s really smart she will get your passport frozen and you ain’t leaving the country until you’ve paid thousands of dollars in support. just don’t rush into anything. you have no idea what you’re dealing with here, or the consequences you might face.

you really won’t get to experience much of the country with all the territory you are trying to cover on a bus. just because something is only 20 miles away, that distance could take you one hour or two hours, depending on traffic, weather, road conditions. i just got back from a farm near la fortuna — a distance of exactly 32 miles door to door. it took me one hour and 15 minutes to travel 32 miles. and i was in a car!! i have done that same trip on a bus and it took just under TWO hours. distance doesn’t tell the whole story, or even a tiny part of it.

oh, i hope he figures it out and implements a plan. and while he’s at it could he please improve the economy so someone will buy my lovely little house in a beautiful area of colorado so i never have to go back to the insane asylum without walls??? aren’t we, the boomer generation, not as well off as our depression-era parents? nothing bodes well for future generations unless they learn to live as our parents did — within their means and below their limits and not spend spend spend with money they don’t have for things they don’t need. i am so glad i got out when i did.

you’re kidding yourself if you think staying in the US 6 more months is going to improve the future of your children or grandchildren. the US is the Titanic. It’s going down, down, down. the election won’t save it and neither will all your good intentions. i think it is sad, but how can you fight the behemoth?

the original poster forgot to mention TENANTS!!!! there are plenty of those who are nightmares for the otherwise calm, sane, and professional property manager. were i to do it all over again, i would run background checks here and in the States on any gringo who wanted to rent a house i was managing. there are plenty of grifters in the tenant category who will make your life a living hell with their hidden agendas.
