And what is the DEADLINE for paying these taxes? i’d have three conflicting reports.
maravillaMemberthese chemicals affect everyone differently. what might be too much for one person might be tolerated by someone else, and the research usually isn’t referring to what you call an overdose. the bottom line is that they are harmful to the environment, to humans and animals, and they destroy the soil. why don’t you be the lab rat, and consume some Round-Up every day for a year and then report back to us?
maravillaMemberthis has been the prevailing info for quite some time and it’s why i eat organic as much as i can.
maravillaMemberWHAT???? Well, of course, they want you to pay last year’s tax AND this year’s tax. Why wouldn’t they? I paid mine late last year waiting for some other decision from Sala IV but there wasn’t any so i ponied up the $1.50 in fines. That is one reason it’s always best to pay these silly things when they are due — there is always some other catch down the line that will make life inconvenient for you here in Puravidaville!
maravillaMemberof course, i wear my seatbelt, and i did it before it was a law. to not do it flies in the face of what we know about accident survival.
as for science, yeah right. science was hijacked years ago — all science can be bought, any outcome you want can be achieved if you have enough influence and money. and following the money is always the key to understanding the conclusions that science draws.
fluoride is good for you, is safe? please, spare me such ridiculous thinking. there is plenty of evidence to suggest that if wreaks havoc in a variety of ways if it’s ingested.
you can have my share. and might i suggest that if you want to understand how science isn’t valid anymore read either Marcia Angell’s book The Truth About The Drug Companies or her other book Science on Trial.
But the best one is The Ascendancy of the Scientific Dictatorship by Phil and Paul Collins. your steadfast beliefs that science is everything won’t be the same afterwards.
maravillaMemberi was organic (since the 70’s) before i ever went to work for the farm. when i worked as a journalist i wrote articles about these issues, and in fact, they hired me BECAUSE of my lifestyle, and i don’t have to push what they do — they are a beacon in the darkness of conventional farming and have worldwide recognition for their practices. hold it against me??? why would you hold that against me? sheesh. I also belong to the Slow Food movement. you probably don’t know what that is, but you would likely hold THAT against me, too. start thinking outside the box, Victoria. that is NOT why i do what i do — i’m old enough to have seen the changes in eating habits — from real food to food-like products, and No, i am never going to eat something that is NOT real food. i don’t want my food chemicalized, processed, or bastardized in any way. if you look at society, most of the illnesses that are bankrupting the healthcare systems AROUND THE WORLD are a result of what people eat. so if you think it isn’t important, think again. and that is why i don’t want chemicals in my water — fluoride is one of the most toxics things on the planet but you’re telling me that it’s good for me based on some pap from the NIH, when there are plenty of other studies to contradict that info, and people who are now finding out how awful this stuff is are demanding that their water suppliers STOP putting it in their water. nobody has a fluoride deficiency. it’s like saying, if you just put a little bit of arsenic in your water, it won’t hurt you. well, if fluoride is so safe, why does it have a warning on toothpaste to call the damn poison control center if you swallowed it?? you can eat whatever you want, drink all the fluoridated water you want, just please do not try to tell me that i should do it and that it is good for me. that completely defies any logic or critical thinking.
maravillaMemberwhat’s a trust company? do you mean a sociedad anonima? did you go to the website someone posted and put in the number of your corporate cedula?? that will tell you what is owed.

as for anecdotal evidence: how do you think they acquire that long list of side effects for the drugs? there is no scientific way to measure headaches, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and the other litany of things that happen to you in Stage IV clinical trials. all those side effects are reported to the trials manager.
i guess the researchers could observe some of the side effects as in the case of Tracy Johnson, who was a non-depressed lab rat in a clinical trial for a new antidepressant who hanged herself in Eli Lily’s lab facilities. that would be scientific evidence!!
and with all the skewed clinical trials, jerry-rigged results, corruption in the NEJM, the AMA, Big Pharma and the FDA, and the ghost-written articles bought and paid for by Big Pharma, i have very little faith in the stuff you think i should rely on. it’s anything BUT scientific.
maravillaMemberall of us who are “organic” and have been before it was a trend, understand with full knowledge that we are getting other organic things in those expensive fruits, vegetables, chicken, and meat. but what we don’t want is food that has been doused with pesticides, herbicides, toxic sludge, and grown in soil that has been completely depleted of any nutrients and biota. and in the last 4 years there have been several studies that compared organic food to conventionally grown food and the organic food was found to have a higher nutrient content, which would certainly make sense if it wasn’t grown in soil devoid of any nutrients. i work for a 200 acre organic/biodynamic farm. these are topics that we discuss all the time, and we also keep up on the latest studies worldwide that support the value of what we do.

maravillaMemberstop being so snide. typical. read that NIH pap years ago, dear. and i guess Harvard is such some podunk institution with no credibility.
http://www.westonaprice.org/environmental-toxins/fluoride-worse-than-we-thought
maravillaMemberyou can believe whatever you want. Harvard recently released a report linking fluoride to a host of illnesses, including smaller brain size and retardation. not all toothpaste is fluoridated. i have never in my life used a product with fluoride in it. and neither did my daughter who never had a cavity in her entire life. putting a toxic chemical in your water is just plain STUPID!!! all one has to do is read the latest research, as opposed to gov’t propaganda, to see that there are serious questions about this practice and many cities are ceasing to put it in their water supplies. they don’t use it in most european countries because of the health risks.
maravillaMembertaxing the crap out of cigarettes has cut down on sales significantly. will it work for sodas, who knows? but clearly something hs to be done because the medical care systems are broken because of all the diet-related health problems.
maravillaMemberdang, David! this is the second time we’re agreed on something. i agree wholeheartedly with Bloomie’s practice of taxing the crap out of cigarettes (they are $13.00 a pack in Manhattan) and regulating how much soda a person can drink in one sitting. obviously there is a serious problem about lack of common sense or even control over what some people will consume. these bad choices put a burden on everyone and one society as a whole. if they aren’t smart enough to not drink 64 oz of Coke with a pseudo-beef hamburger, then yes, someone should make that choice for them. (i’m ducking now!)
maravillaMemberi am more than one hour away from SJO and live where there are more cows than people. Systemic ingestion of fluoride does not improve teeth or prevent cavities. there are dozens of studies that prove this. and the topical application of fluoride is questionable in the prevention of caries — studies done in the last ten years show that cities with no fluordation have lower incidences of cavities. and nobody has a fluoride deficiency. as for other nutritional deficiencies, the standard american diet, laden with too much sugar, chemicals, and processed ingredients has been the downfall of an entire population, and the Ticos have succumbed to the propaganda to eat this stuff, too. there is no mystery why costa rica is suffering from an obesity, heart disease, and diabetes epidemic. i do as much as i can to educate people about what not to eat, and what to eat, but you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it think.
