salt is an important element for the body. there is a fabulous book our called “Salt” — it’s 800 pages of why salt is the most important mineral in the world. entire civilizations were started around salt beds. it’s a very interesting book. but here is just one article that outlines the importance of salt in your diet. salt is what binds all the flavors of food together. my favorite salt is fleur de sel from france.

kelp beds? am i missing something? you can buy nori in almost every macro here, though. and i have someone mule in bags of organic kelp powder. plus if you eat any fish, shrimp, or lobster at all, you are probably get sufficient amounts of yodo.

good for you! there are plenty of studies that show that this idea that it prevents tooth decay is bogus and that in cities where water is NOT fluoridated, there is actually less incidences of caries. i never allowed those drop on my child’s teeth either, nor have any of us used fluoridated toothpaste.

i live in rural costa rica, V. where did you think i lived? i know exactly what most of the ticos eat, and gringos, too, and yes, i could see where they would have nutrient deficiencies far beyond just yodo and iron.

to my knowledge they do NOT fluoridate the water here. for which we should all be eternally grateful. as for protecting our water sources from cow poop, Nectandra Institute bought our cuenca and made it a private reserve so nobody could graze their cows there.

yes, i know about the folic acid-sprinal bifida connection. milk from grassfed cows — not FACTORY COWS — actually contain sufficient amounts of A and D, which is one of the arguments for consuming raw milk from grassfed animals. as for iodine, i eat all the foods that have it naturally, such as seaweed and kelp. but there are other foods, too. as usual, it’s diets heavily laden with processed food and refined sugars that are that are deficient in iodine (and other nutrients).

thanks. i just saw that notice in AMCR. i wonder what the penalty for being late is. last year it was $.05 a day. but i will probably just pay it on time and be done with it.

the iron we were haggling about was what is in pink salt. it’s fluoride and iodine that they add to salt here. i was not aware that Ticos were deficient in iodine, or iron for that matter. if you eat a good diet, it really isn’t necessary to supplement those things. it is always better to get these nutrients from whole food rather than have them added in the form of chemicals, which the body often can’t assimilate. someone gave me a kilo of fresh sea salt from the flats BEFORE the salt went to the processing plant to have those two chemicals added. i wish they’d stop with the fluoride already, but they’ve bought into the propaganda. i’m just grateful that there is salt available here that doesn’t have it ADDED.

here in costa rica, they ADD fluoride and yodo. i don’t have a problem with either of these things naturally-occuring in my salt, but these are CHEMICALS they add for whatever reason.

the “rust” is really not something to worry about, where as fluoride and iodine (neither naturally-occuring but chemicals of dubious origin) are.

if that’s all that came up you need to search it again and it will give you the amount due. what’s to understand about the above info? it’s inactive, you owe no back taxes, and the SA is in good standing.

well, they are NOT doing that now and have no plans to do it in the future. i have never consumed chlorinated water and i don’t plan to start now. but at least there are filters for that, unlike fluoride.
