It seems to me that any individual capable of purchasing a home for $200K US will be able to show income of $1,000.00/month per person. I am not a lawyer, but why make it difficult on yourself?

I do not support the spending spree that the US has been on for decades. This is only one of my reasons for looking into expatriating to CR. I’m sure the moated embassy was passed in our house and senate under the “homeland security” umbrella. Their budget seems to be untouchable…after all what politician wants to go on record for voting against a security issue and have it bashed around during the next election?

The US needs to put a stop to pork-barrell spending. I liken it to being in a marriage where financial matters are decided like this: “ok honey you can buy that truck if I get the kitchen remodeled”. One has nothing to do with the other, but it has become the way we in the US conduct our political spending! It is fiscally irresponsible and absolutely inexcusable.

Wow the latest quake on the 23rd (5.0) and one today (4.7) in the southern most area of CR! Has anyone in the central valley felt the quake?

Regarding the new rules … is the $1,000 a per individual requirement like the $600 rule? Is it also a requirement that the money come from a pension? I am self employed and have an equivalent (much better) rental property income, but no pension. I can afford the move but have not got a “pension”. Is there any way for me to qualify under the new rules?

One of the things that attracts me to CR is the un-likeness of Florida. Mobile homes or container homes…what is the difference? CR will end up looking like Florida:cry:! No thanks, I won’t be living in one.

I will give outsource2009 one piece of rather sound advice regarding his desire to have a young and entertaining night-life. Try Key West, Florida, USA. It has the Costa Rican like climate, carefree attitude, and is very young and alive. I hope you give it a try and find happiness there.

OK… It seems to me that nothing is holding you back since it is apparent that you have no desire to be in CR. I will do as the ticos do with regard to your comments and go on with enjoying life as if they (your comments) do not exist.

Okay, there’s trash (basura) on the streets of Costa Rica.

So what’s your point? Is the trash in the streets what’s keeping you from coming here?

I haven’t traveled elsewhere in Latin America, but a few folks who have have told me that they’re struck by how clean Costa Rica is in comparison.
Not only, i can give a lot more reasons that keep from staying here: almost no pedestrian zones, every web sources claims, including ‘WLCR’ that english is the second – not at any price!!!Property is not that cheap as it claims either and the cost of living, if you realy look at it is not cheaper then in Moscow! There are no amusement places for youn people. And the list goes on…
OK … we have a few rental properties here in the states that we are planning to find management for. That should bring me as much or more income than SS (which I cannot collect for 10 years, so if there is truth to living on SS income in CR We will be there!

What is really holding me back is my family obligations. I have an 83 year old Dad who is very healthy (we hope when we move he will want to come with us). I am divorced and very happily remarried. I have 3 daughters and 2 step children…one daughter graduated from college (and still finding herself … with all the talk of CR in our home she is planning to study abroad in CR while getting her Masters in education), one going into college and one going into High School. The step kids are now grown ups…sort of! We are really waiting to get my youngest into college. We have less than 5 years in which to dream and plan. Barb is on board with me, so far nothing is scaring her.

The things attracting us to CR are the low profile government, low taxes, great climate, healthy unprocessed food, friendly natives (we can learn from their stress free lifestyle), great scenery and seemingly affordable housing for such a paradise. Oh did I mention low cost and quality healthcare?

Speaking of paradise, I believe you can find paradise anywhere in the world because it only really exists inside yourself. That said, I think the CR way of life can bring out my paradise! I look forward to the days when I wake up and say “another day in paradise!”. Hope to see you all there one day soon.
