This is so depressing! Does anyone know why they want such a large increase for rentistas? Going from $1000 to $5000 is a little crazy and I really don’t understand why. I can understand having an increase, but why so much?
mixuoneMemberCan I ask what kind of camera you have? Those pictures are amazing.
mixuoneMemberI’m so jealous! You don’t mess around, do you? I forwarded your message to Mayra Claveria, who is the recommended real etate agent for that area. Good luck!
mixuoneMemberI take back the part about not hearing from the Real Estate Agents! I heard yesterday from Becky, who I had emailed last week and also from one that Scott recommended for the Santa Ana and Escazu area, Mayra. Both seem very nice and I look forward to working with them.
mixuoneMemberI spent a week in Escazu last month and put it on my list of places that I will look at more closely on my next visit. I have been reading a lot about the Santa Ana area and that seems like a nice area as well. I would take a look at some of the videos on this site that have some good info on the different areas of Costa Rica.
FYI, I contacted two of the recommended realtors and haven’t heard anything back from either one. The first was about a week and a half ago and the second one was earlier this week. I’m not complaining, just wanted to let you know.mixuoneMemberI think he is in California. Residency papers need to be filed here first so that’s why I originally contacted him. His email address is javier@residencyincostarica.com and is usually pretty quick to respond. Good luck!
mixuoneMemberI have been talking to Javier Zavaleta from http://www.residencyincostarica.com
He is very nice to deal with and may be able to answer some of your questions.mixuoneMemberI think grb1063’s reasons were beautiful and heartfelt. I feel the same way and hope to finally find a place this year where we can live the simple life we have been craving and also contribute any way we can to our adopted community.
mixuoneMemberI don’t know if this will help you or not but I have a lot of friends that have ordered diet pills from many countries and have never had a problem with receiving them. They usually arrive in a plain package and the pill bottles are usually wrapped in bubble wrap or sometimes in a smaller cardboard box within the shipping package. I know they have gotten them from Brazil and Bolivia recently.
mixuoneMemberI can’t find any info on it either, but I just emailed someone at Residency in Costa Rica to see if they have heard anything. I hate to get my hopes up yet, but it’s hard not to!
mixuoneMemberThanks, I guess he did. I was just looking for clarification on the legal part of it. I know it’s not going to be easy, but at least it will be an option if I want to find work.
mixuoneMemberThanks. I’m not concerned about the amount of wages, just if it would be legal. I’m certainly not expecting high wages, just a better life! I contacted Residency in Costa Rica last week to get their opinion on the proposed immigration law changes. They think the rentista income requirement will probably double but not go as high as the proposed $5000 per month. That will still be out of reach so my only hope is that they don’t get the vote in before the April deadline.
mixuoneMemberHi! I’m new to this forum and I had a question related to iandawg’s post. If the immigration laws for some reason end up staying the same and I moved to Costa Rica this summer with $120,000 to put in a bank account for three years would I actually be able to find work after that as a resident? My husband can work anywhere as long as he has an Internet connection, but I really would like to be able to work again eventually. I also work in IT and that is the hardest thing for me to give up. We could live on my husband’s salary for a while, but that’s not really what I want to do forever.
By the way, this is the best site I have found so far regarding real information on Costa Rica. Thank you! -
