I have been a follower for a long time on this site and I was not aware of the change of ownership. Now I see why there seems to be a lack of activity on the site. No TLC on the part of the owner may be a reason or a lack of on how things are done in CR. In CR you have to pay attention to business or forget it. To bad as it was as interesting. Hope Scott got all his dinero
orcas0606ParticipantWhat to you mean by “it can wreck havoc on your finances”? I have always given my physical address and have not noticed any havoc (so far) after 40+ years.
orcas0606ParticipantI hear the “la platina” is available if you don’t mind the MOPT workers who have been there for years
orcas0606ParticipantTake a look at MagicJack. Works great for me.
orcas0606ParticipantJohnny, don’t pay much attention to the new “We Love Costa Rica” troll. I understood your question perfectly. As Ving stated, a person born of Tico parents. no matter where, has certain rights to citizenship. However, I have heard that there is a certain age limit for application, so I suggest your he check with the Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones as they are definite authority in these matters. Speaking fluent Spanish in Costa Rica is a big help as bushmaster has probably found out by now. Don’t fret!! Language help is on the way. Check out Pilot.
orcas0606ParticipantIt takes 10 working days for access to the funds in CR.
orcas0606ParticipantI hace written checks on my US bank, Wells Fargo, and deposited it in my account in CR, Scotia Bank. It takes 10 working days to clear and the transfer fee to another account costs $10 US for immediate service and $5 US for 24hrs. It has been more than a year since I have done this. I didn’t have to jump thru too many hoops to prove the source of the funds. Maybe still works, who knows in CR.
orcas0606ParticipantSounds to me that you should change lawyers. Any lawyer in CR who is the least bit competent should be able to do an online check with the Registro Nacional to determine if the taxes have been paid, the seller was the owner or there is a lien against the property.
This should take about 10 mins.
Or, if your Spanish is OK, go to the Ministerio de Hacienda and check it out yourself.
My guess is that the taxes haven’t been paid or there is some other problem
Suerte!!
orcas0606ParticipantMostly among the “Pachuco” element, I think.
orcas0606ParticipantJuan Santamaría has also been called ‘el empujado” the one who has been pushed forward. Be carefull about saying that in Alajuela.
orcas0606ParticipantAbout a year ago I finished a decent(for Costa Rica) two house project in the
Central Valley and it seems to me that 400-450000k M2 construction is a pretty
good number to consider. No matter what, check the materials and the work being
done. Good luck.April 20, 2015 at 4:40 am in reply to: Costa Rica’s New International Airport Is NOT Going To Happen! #200112orcas0606ParticipantI have to agree with you that the new airport whether it is in Orotina or Palmar Sur will not happen BUT not because Wilhelm von Breymann says so, but just maybe because the money is in San Jose.
I know that he is a “ministro” but I’m not even sure that the boss of ICT is really a minister. I don’ know if he can rule out anything.
I would like to know just what a wanker is? Sounds like something you should see a doctor for. (I know, dangling prep.)………I know that my great granny who was from Stronsay never used that word. Must be a Brit saying. Certainly not Norn.
Don’t like to say that: “I’ve told you so for about 8 years” but ….
The tourism minister Wilhelm von Breymann has ruled out the possibility of building a new airport, arguing that the current one has sufficient capacity and there is a more urgent need for improving and expanding the one in Liberia.

April 17, 2015 at 3:05 pm in reply to: Article on a proposed gag law? Political climate in CR #171026orcas0606ParticipantHow right you are. Once the “progressives” (don’t want to use a stronger Word) get a scoiety on the slippery slope the come back is quite difficult and most often violent. Just look around us. Danny boy and his cohorts were able to rid Nicaragua of dictator Somoza and look what happened. Yes, cat s##t and dog s””t smell the same. Ni hablar de Venezuela. And yes it is re-assuring the reaction here. I can’t imagine how congress and others thought they could slip that law thru without an uproar. “Pura Vida”, Adios Melvin.
It’s easy to be progressive when things are good. When the winds shift and things get difficult that’s when politicians and dictators like to start suppressing the media, your rights, and go after your assets. In a country like CR that has always been rather open about things you have to make these moves in very small steps. Having no army it’s difficult to make big sudden moves against your people. Thankfully this latest attempt on the part of the politicians to erode free speech and the power of the press was discovered and made public which caused it to be dropped immediately!
The fact that this even occurred was troubling. The response and subsequent reversal are reassuring!

orcas0606ParticipantI repeat myself as some time has passed “y nada” ???
Does anyone have any new info on the disapperence of Ryan Piercy. I have not been able to find anything new for several days in English or Spanish news. Strange situation!!!
orcas0606ParticipantHow are they different? Do they speak Spanish?
In many US states it is illegal to keep wild animals as pets (including your racoon). You may want to start there as coming from an illegal position may be the end of it in a hurry.
Note that the Racoons in Costa Rica are different than US racoons and they may not want an animal that can interbreed with the local varieties.
