[David, you might want to look at Coopeande (Assoc, Nac, de Educadores) Basicaly the teachers pension fund. Depending on the amount and the term you might be able to get up to 14% in colones of course. Seems to be quite secure but as you know in CR you never know. PS They have an office in front of the Muni in Alajuela
quote=”DavidCMurray”]We’re about to jump into a CD denominated in colones at around 8.5% for a year. I’ve heard that there’s a cooperative in San Ramon paying 12.5% but I have no personal knowledge of that.
orcas0606ParticipantDavid, why not ask the Tibetans about the good guys!! You are right there is no free lunch but what is the cost?
You’re certainly correct that Costa Rica cannot rely forever on the inflow of foreign capital. On the other hand, at the risk of becoming a client state, it does appear that China (an up and coming player on the world stage) is very interested in shoring up this little corner of the world.
Of course, nothin’s free. The Chinese, like the Americans, are looking for something in return. It will be interesting to see how that plays out. As Americans, with our genetic skepticism of anything communist, we are wary of the Chinese, but who knows? They may turn out to be the good guys after all.
In the meantime, safe investment returns here vastly exceed anything you could hope for in the U.S. and cash will continue to flow in to take advantage of them. Marcia and I are in that process even as I write this. Others, wiser than us, will, too.

Give up meat. Switch to a veggie-based, whole grain and legume diet. It will save you money and save your life.

PS. I don’t have time to make my own bread by hand but used to have a terrific Zojirushi bread machine which I used for about 15 years until it just died on me …. Don’t supposed there’s a good bread machine store you know of …. ??

orcas0606ParticipantPunis in Alajuela near the TUASA bus station makes very nice ones. I’m sure they install but don’t know about delivery to Arenal[
quote=”VictoriaLST”]So, now we know where to get egg layers.
Now, can anyone tell me where to get a pool table (and have it delivered to Nuevo Arenal area)?
This is not known as topic “drift”, it is known as topic “tsunami”.
orcas0606ParticipantIn Turrucares 1 km. West of the Banco Nacional Nuria Vasquez Zuñiga has all the layers you would want. Best to call first to see if she has available at the moment. Tel #s 8921 6113 & 2487 7998

When we purchased egg layers, we got egg layers. And when we purchased meat chickens, this is what we got.
that seems sensible, layers lay…..
to the original post, any sources for the poster as to where to purchase? Would be good, as you always know what you talketh about.
orcas0606ParticipantI honestly don’t consider that much of a recommendation after some things that I have seen from “la migra”
Barbara Ann,
Thank you for your thoughts! Fortunately, we retained a great lawyer, she once worked for Costa Rican Immigration!!!!!!!!!
orcas0606ParticipantRemember that a few years ago we got new cedulas and the #s were changed and your licence # must agree with your new cedula # So I had to make a special trip to the MOPT offices in Paso Ancho for the paperwork. I hope next time it all can be done in the Bank
b]

If you already have the CR license, you should be good to go….
I’m confident that crf is right, Bill. Once you have your Costa Rican driver’s license in hand, renewing it should not be a problem.
Note this, however . . . Your driver’s license number today (the one that was issued to you based upon your passport number) must be the same as your cedula number once your cedula is issued to you. So when you go to renew your driver’s license, you’ll need to begin by having its number changed to your cedula number (assuming you’ve been issued your cedula by then).
I don’t think there is any compelling reason to have your driver’s license number updated until you go to renew it.
orcas0606ParticipantThe chicks are all layers and are also sexed. No roosters in the bunch. Prefer to buy my chicken. Rather not have to slaughter them.
[
quote=”waggoner41″]
We have always purchased chicks….and have never seen any layers advertised for sale.
Did you get any layers out of them or did you only raise them for the table?
orcas0606ParticipantAbout 6 mos. ago I bought 5 layers for 4000 ea. They were 19 wks old and began laying in 3 wks. They were de beaked and vaccinated and lay at about 95%. Haven’t missed a beat. They are not next door and you will have to go to Turrucares, Alajuela, no, not Turrubates near Orotina but not so far on the 27. From the Banco Nacional go about 1 km West, just past where the asphalt ends you will se a sign on the left that says “se vende huevos”, not there, the next house. The nice lady who lives there buys chicks and raises them to sell. You can buy as many as you want as long as they are not spoken for. Sorry I can’t find her card but if I do I will post her phone #. Good eating.
Anyone have a good source?
I’m in Quepos, and would prefer not to have to go too far to get them.
I’d rather not get chicks, they’re cute and all, but I don’t want to end up with any roosters, and I figure with chicks it’s a 50/50 kind of thing.
Thanks for any info.
orcas0606ParticipantMaravilla, you never fail to amaze me. Just when I thought you were one of the most acculturated and knowledgeble posters on WLCR you come up with such an unfounded generalization and just because you think that they are out to get you doesn’t mean that you are paranoid. Do you think that the average tico has even the faintest idea who Mamita Yunai is…..I’m not the most likable guy and I don’t feel the ticos dislike. Why are they blaming you?
they don’t like us in the first place, so if they can blame us for anything, they will!!
orcas0606Participant
this is great news!!! the less americans here the better.
Ah, the We Love Costa Rica Welcome Wagon once again in action.
orcas0606ParticipantGive me a f”#?ing break!!! Never before on this site have I read such trash. David, you have won the WLCR grand prize for progressive thought. FORWARD If the majotity would stop groveling in the mire maybe there would be change.
I think you guys are way, way off base. Actually, it’s a late-breaking ad by the Romney campaign showing how the privileged few will be lifted yet further while the majority are left behind to grovel in the mire. The substance on Lady Gaga’s front is caviar which she can afford to squander. The substance on the black man is a mix of his own sweat and the dust he’s been left in.
orcas0606ParticipantReally easy. Wrap a few in a paper towel and keep damp for a few days and watch for the sprouts…..
orcas0606ParticipantAt last my moringa seeds have arrived from India. Re packaging and re shipping seems to work. The package came directly to my mail box with no problem and no import duties or Ag inspection. As I said I used Amazon and the total cost for 100 seeds was about $15 but took about 2 mos. I have tested germination and all seem to be OK.
orcas0606ParticipantI suggest that you go to the customer service platform at the nearest BN agency and ask them to help you set up your payment process. I have done this several times and they have always helped out “con mucho gusto”
