That is the park I suspected and yes it’s not exactly around the corner from the hotel. In the past, when I’ve had morning appointments in that area, I’ve taken a cab down and then walked back to the Don Carlos. I think there is much more to see and do around the Don Carlos, if you’re going to have any free time.

We usually stay at the Hotel Don Carlos, when we’re in San Jose. Not sure which park you mean so I don’t know how close the Hotel is to your Dr. The Don Carlos is about 2 blocks from the Holiday Inn and there’s a great restaurant nearby ( Cafe Mundo )Again not sure how much eating you’ll doing, but at the minimum you could enjoy the atmosphere and drinks.

I don’t live in CR so I can’t comment on the current road conditions. “Max speed to navigate safely” is a very relative term. According to my wife I continually violate spirit of that term so I would just say drive according to your comfort level. The routes you’re talking about are pretty major routes. All the tour companies out of San Jose use the route from San Ramon to get out to Arenal etc. so there should be a fair amount of traffic. I would plan an extra 1.5 hours so you can drive at a reasonable pace & not feel you have constantly pass every slow car/truck that you encounter. The only thing of extreme importance would be to not drive at night over roads you’ve never traveled before.

By CR standards I would say the roads are fine. Here’s a site you might like to help you out.

This past Xmas I got stopped, this was the first time in 8 years of visits. I smiled, chuckled a little in a friendly manner, told the officer I’ve been visiting his lovely country every year for eight years and of course I know what the speed limit is on this road and I was observing it. He checked my passport, told me to make sure I don’t speed, we wished each other a Merry Christmas and I went on my way. I know I was a little lucky, but maybe there’s something about a friendly denial that threw him off, or maybe he just to pity on me and my horrible Spanish.

Sprite- I’m pretty sure the warning about the Military Industrial complex was in Eisenhower’s last speech to the nation.

David- I completely agree that the Interstate Highway Act of 1956 was one of the most important pieces of legislation in our country’s history. However, I think you and Sprite are confusing era’s and politically leanings. The final highway bill was guided through the House and Senate by George Fallon, Hale Boggs and Albert Gore Sr., all Democrats. It passed the Senate on a vote of 89-1 and passed the House on a voice vote. I think it was more a case that politicians of that time were still capable, on occasion, of acting for the good of the country, rather than for the good of their party or their own re-election.

While today everyone accepts conservative as Republican and Liberal as Democrat the case could be made that the strongest conservative foot-draggers of the 50’s were southern Democrats. Likewise the term Liberal Republican was alive and well in the 50’s.

Anyway, just thought I’d submit that for consideration.

    Thanks.

Hi Terry- Well letme start over. This past Saturday ( April 14th.) there was an article in the San Diego paper stating that Pres. Arias was sending CAFTA to the people for a national vote. I think the following happened: ( and the number of votes he had didn’t matter)

On Weds or Thurs of last week the TSE ruled that CAFTA opponents could force a national referendum if they gathered a certain number of signatures. ( see Tico Times: http://www.ticotimes.net/business.htm )
Arias, realizing there would be no problem gathering enough signatures, announced he would send CAFTA to a national vote.
I guess it wasn’t that he didn’t have the votes to pass it, it was more the fact he couldn’t stop a national vote.

So that’s my understanding and I was just looking for furhter insight not based on the article by Scott.

Hi Terry- I did read the article, but as GT confirms in his post, Arias did not have the votes neeeded to pass the agreement. The only option was to call for a national vote, which he did last week.

I’m a little confused. This past saturday I read that CAFTA was going to a public vote as there were not enough votes to pass it in the assembly. Can anyone confirm which is the current status. My sense is that a public up or down vote will lead to rejection of the treaty. As I’m in CA. that is just my guess so what’s really going on in CR with regard to CAFTA.

    Thanks

Well Artie, Paragon and Costa do provide some entertainment for the board at least once a month or so. Now, not to be too much of a “sleuth” as you refer to the members of this board I have to ask the following. In the post above ( Around 9:00 AM )you say you’re thinking of looking into some properties from Costa Developers, and further down the board in another discussion ( Around 10:00 AM. )you say you’re the proud owner of 3 beautiful lots from Costa.

So Artie, What was the key factor that tipped the scales during this hour of Due Diligence? And by the way, you should write an article for the board, you got a lot of work done in one hour. It took me quite a bit longer to purchase property and I’d like to know how I could have saved some time.

In that area I would recommend the Hotel Don Carlos. It’s across the street from the Hemingway. Also while in the neighborhood have dinner at Cafe Mundo a few blocks up the hill, you can get a discount card at Don carlos good for 10% off your meal.
