Thanks kindly Dave, Don has visited and will be installing the Dish system for us.
It’s pricey for initial equipment, fortunately the sat dishes remained on the property when we purchased the home so just the box then the monthly fees but will be full US system when up and running.
Don and his wife very friendly and accommodating.
pebo1MemberThanks David, I have contacted Don. It all is a little pricey but first rate system.
Cheers — Peter
pebo1MemberThanks David for that report, always good to get feedback from folks who have personal experiences.

pebo1MemberThanks Guys for replies. David, have you experienced first hand treatment from these recommended dentists?
Cheers—-Peter
pebo1MemberOK will do that thanks.
pebo1MemberOK so how does one obtain a CR Drivers license?
pebo1MemberHello maravilla,
May I ask where you purchased your land and settled. We did a similar thing a year ago as we spent a couple weeks in Central CR looking and fell in love with Orosi Valley where we bought land.
Loved Atenas also but found it a little hotter and drier. On the plus side it is closer to new highway and Pacific beaches while Orosi appears more temperate albeit more rainy.
We plan to build in Orosi next year although initial construction quotes appear about 30% higher than Atenas, not sure why, perhaps a little more remote.
Cheers
pebo1MemberOK that’s great my iPhone is unlocked as I paid a hefty sum for it, I also have a Corp in CR as we own land there in that name so guess we can apply when we get there.
Thanks kindly
pebo1Member
There are, indeed, Nokia cell phones with 3G capability, Sue. The Nokia 5800 we’ve discussed is certainly one. Another is the Nokia 2730. And I’m sure there are others.
Both of these Nokias, and many other 3G cell phones, will work in “dual” mode which means that they’ll first opt for the 3G network but, if that can’t be reached, they’ll switch and try for the 2G network. So your chances of getting a signal are improved.
You can review all the specifications at http://www.nokiausa.com. Then Google the model you’re interested in and buy it online.
OK what about the iPhone 3Gs, does it work there?
pebo1MemberOK thinking of sourcing a new car from USA, any idea of duty % on a new vehicle?
pebo1Member
pebo1,
Thanks for the information. That was one article that I missed. I would venture to guess/hope that CR will match or surpass retiree exemptions, provided by the surrounding latin neighbors.
You’re welcome, I hope such a tax relief is forthcoming as I will be coming to live in CR soon.
pebo1Member

Looking at coming to live in CR next 2 or 3 months and most interested in one of these autos.
Appreciate any info for any that are familiar or own these cars.
I believe there are new car dealers also in San Jose. I also understand new cars will carry approx 25% duty on similar N. American prices. Tips or points appreciated.
Looking for comments thanks.
We own a 2006 Kia Sorento, diesel, automatic, 4 x 4 since new (4 years now). It has been a great car with excellent power and acceleration. Yesterday while in San Jose, we went to the Expomovil 2010 Auto shown in Belen. Most of the dealers were represented however I was mainly interested in the new Kia Sorento since the 2010 models have a completely new design after many years of the same design. The new design both exterior and interior are a nice fresh change. Talking with a salesman who I had met previously at the Kia dealer, Gallagher Vindas (tel: 506-8391-4152), he wrote up a contract purchase price for a new “2011” ready in July for $39,000. This is an automatic, gasoline, 7 passenger 4 x 4 with many standard extras. Now, something new for 2010 and 2011, the standard 5 passenger is not 4 x 4 while the 7 passenger is. I don’t understand why they would do this but that is what he said. The 5 passenger without 4 x 4 can be had for around $35,000. Diesel seems to cost considerably more this year and due to the similarities in fuel costs, I felt the gasoline was best. I will either be selling my 2006 outright or trading it in to the dealer. Hope this helps somewhat.
Bob & Ione
Thanks Bob, I appreciate that info, I have been looking at KIA USA sites and understand that models acquired in CR will differ. You didn’t mention engine size or if the Models are LX or EX with the latter being higher end. I also note the 4WD available on all models in US whether 5 or 7 passenger, I would prefer a 5 passenger with V6 petrol and 4WD.
Cheers

RE: Pending Executive Decree

As Attorney Roger Petersen clearly stated in his article at [ https://www.welovecostarica.com/members/Costa_Rica_Declares_Baby_Boomers_To_Be_A_National_Priority.cfm ]“We won’t know the extent of those incentives until the Executive Decree is signed and published.”
Any other opinion at this time is pure speculation…

pebo1MemberWell I recall reading already on this site that there is a decree waiting to be signed that will remove these taxes. I don’t know how long it would take to enact however.
pebo1MemberThanks David, I feel the same way, I think importing using a customs broker in CR may be the way to go. I believe the duty is least on cars up to 3 yrs old but the book price is determined by the customs people.
