MemberDavid,
Did they deduct any money for transfering it into your CR account?
How’s the knee coming along?Peg
MemberI agree with Bardbard on this one. GWB and his cabinet lied to the American people 935 times just in the 2 years following 9/11, which have all been proven. The Saudis are his buddies, I wouldn’t be suprised if he’s getting some kind of kick-back from them or the oil companies.
I have been using only Hess and Sunoco in the US for years, because they don’t use midde east gas.Peg
MemberDavid,
I don’t know about the trim part, but I’m still fighting. That was 8 years ago. God only knows what it would cost today. I will eventually have to have the other one done, but I’m holding off as long as I can. I hope that I can get that one done in CR. Can’t afford US prices.
I hope everything goes well for you.Peg
MemberDavid,
Good luck with your knee surgery. I had knee replacement surgery in the U.S., it cost me $25,000.00.January 12, 2008 at 10:20 pm in reply to: US taxes on US Soci Sec Payments while CR Resident #188884Peg
MemberCouldn’t you just use a Miami mail forwarding service with a street address?

No one mentioned the biggest expenses of all.
1. The cost of acquiring residency, varies maybe $1000. TO $1500.USD.
2. The cost of Rentista status, depositing $60,000.USD (for 1 adult) in a Costa Rica bank to cover you for 5 years. It’s not practical to leave the country every 90 days, plus they are supposedly cracking down on that.
There is a lot more to consider then telephone service, cars and furniture. You need to do a lot more research, the majority of which can be found right on this site. Do your homework, visit and make sure CR is the right place fo you.
Good luck.Peg
MemberI agree with you Scott. Right on “upeCity”, way to go. My sentiments exactly.

I just read in the Tico Times that American Airlines is going to start a direct flight from Ft. Lauderdale to SJO. It will be one daily flight down and back, leaving Fla. at 2:30pm and arriving around 4:30, then turning around and going back about an hour later. This may be a little more convenient than Miami.Peg

What’s the problem with Spirit?
Peg
MemberI think you will find Spirit has the lowest fares now out of Tampa or Orlando. American also has sales , but since Spirit opened the CR routes they have been very low. I checked last week for Thanksgiving week, it was $138

MemberThe White House said saturday” that if Costa Ricans vote against joining U.S.-CAFTA, the Bush Administration will not renegotiate the deal”. I hope whatever was decided today was the right decision for CR.
Peg
MemberHas anyone tried American Airlines?
Peg
MemberSounds like Arias is trying to fool the Ticos into voting for CAFTA, by telling them if CR doesn’t like it they can get out of it. That’s not how these trade agreements work. The U.S. isn’t going to let that happen.
Peg
MemberAnyone leaving from Florida, I’ve seen flights on AA, leaving from Tampa change in Miami for $234.rt at least through Nov.

MemberI understand the sale of organs was written into CAFTA by the U.S., just in case they start importing and exporting organs.
