Tom,
I have a booklet I picked up at the SSA office titled “Your Payments while You Are Outside The United States”. CR is listed as a country that you may receive payments in, however it does not list them in the countries that you can receive direct deposit in. They say to determine if direct deposit or other forms of electronic payment is available in the country where you live, contact th U.S.Embassy or consulate or U.S. SSA office. Either way I’m thinking there has got to be a fee associated with this, especially if they do an electronic transfer. There must be some Ex-pat out there reading this receiving their S.S check in Costa Rica.PegMemberDave,
I heard that it wasn’t cheap to have your Social Security checks sent to Costa Rica, around $50. a month. Wouldn’t it be cheaper to have it deposited in an U.S. account. and transfer money periodically to a CR account to satisfy your Pensionado status to turn dollars into Colones?PegMemberThere’s a big ad in February 23rds Tico Times for Acuarium in Plaza Herradura, Jaco. They advertise pools and spas. If this helps their phone # is 637-7148.

Talk about twisting the facts. Being anti-administration is not anti-American. It’s because we love our home country that we voice our criticism. Otherwise how do we stop the destruction. The people spoke in November. Even a big chunk of Bushs own party is speaking out. The rest are to weak , scared or in denial. A lot of them are scared of what may happen to them if they disagree, they may lose their jobs, something may happen to their families, (Valerie Plame) or they may just disappear. Talk about conspiracy theories. It’s going to take decades to undo the harm that this current administration has done. We’re not bashing the USA, we’re telling it like it is about Bush and his cronies.
Talk about bashing, you are a master at that, only yours is personal against people on this site who disagree wih you, Prefacing it with thank you, is just sarcastic bashing!!PegMemberVegasknite
I like reading Maravilla’s posts. She shoots from the hip, and tells it like it is. You are reading stuff into her posts that isn’t even there. Where does it say that the USA is a fascist country and all of the citizens are too? What she is referring to, is the current administration. The axis of evil in the White House, who have destroyed Americas credibility worldwide. The fear and war mongering admin. Obviously 70% of the citizens are not happy, just read the polls.
You recently show up on this board, and become a self appointed authority on everything. When someone doesn’t like what this Pres. has done to the country, you pull the unpatriotic card just like Bush does. When someone doesn’t agree with you, you become condesending, you belittle them, and attack them personally. Read your own posts.
Who died and left you keys to the Kingdom?
Bravo Maravilla!PegMemberMy son who is now 37 had ADHD as a child. He was having behavior problems in kindergarten, so his teacher suggested Ritilin. Wanting to help him, I took him to the Drs., he presribed it for him. Well within 2 monthes I took him off of it. I didn’t like they way he acted on the drug. During that 2 monthes, I did as much research as I could.(no internet back then) I found the Feingold Diet. The premise is, no artificial colors, flavoring or salicylates. The diet did wonders, the hard part was to make sure he didn’t sneak things. I new it immediatley when he did. As far as sweets are concerned, sugar won’t hurt them in moderation as long as the coloring, flavoring, and salicylates aren’t included. I bought Carob, or made Carob desserts for him. Chocolate has salicylates, so do apples. I’m sure you can find information on the Dr. Feingold Diet on the web, or get his book on Amazon or any other book seller. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
PegMemberThe San Jose Airport has the worst exchange rates, even the U.S. airports have better rates than SJO. Best bet ATMS or Banks in CR.
PegMemberGracias Maravilla, Happy Holidays to you, and all “We Love Costa Rica” members.
PegMemberWhat about getting income “authenticated” (social security), how much of a problem is that to get done?
PegMemberI was at MasXMenos last week, and I was low on colones, so I pulled out a twenty, well the cashier called a Manager over because there was a very tiny little rip on the edge. I had to give them another bill. So they’re really looking them over
PegMemberDenise, I just spent a lovely week at Villa Rita in La Garita. Rita has cottages to rent there, but she also has quilting classes. She goes to shows in the U.S. and CR with a group of woman. I am quite sure she would be able to give you good information. She is an Amercan who has lived in CR for 28 years. She is very nice, friendly and helpful. Her ph# is 487-75-66. You can tell her Peg Raphial told you, I hope this helps.

So what’s worse, being patted down, or being totally naked?
December 9, 2006 at 12:06 am in reply to: Starting Jan 07 you will need a passport to travel #180187PegMemberI just arrived home from CR this morning, via a connecting flight to Atlanta then to Tampa, and because I have a knee replacement, at every airport I am patted down. It is really getting to be annoying. I am fair haired and fair skinned grandmother of 21. I truly understand the safety ramifications, as my son is an airline pilot, but the majority of people being put in that little glass box, and having some stranger runs their hands all over them, are seniors with knee and hip replacements. One time my son drove me to the airport in my fathers very conservative sedan, and we were pulled over on the road into the airport and they searched the car. Have they changed the terrorists profile now to disabled seniors? I must say I didn’t feel quite as molested by the woman in CR, they are much less intrusive and a lot more pleasant then they are stateside.
PegMemberSharon, I appreciate your offer, but I’m not to that point yet. I’m doing some remodeling (alot of the work myself), so it’s slow going. I work 5 days a week, so it’s kind of a weekend thing. I hope to get to that point by the beginning of next year. I will keep you in mind.
Thank you. -
