If you dont mind me asking, how much would did it cost to set up the 3.0 meter dish and the hardware to get the dish network? Also, I saw a previous post of yours that stated you get various Fox channles from the US. Any from Florida? I’m hoping to still see the Bucs games (yes, even though they’re 0-3) Also, do you get HDTV programing? Thanks.

Hi Mustardgirl. Sansa and Nature Air have become increasingly strict with weight limits. More so if the flight is full for obvious reasons. However, they are also inconsistent. We flew from SJO to tamarindo a couple of months ago and went with our suitcases which were 30 lbs and 40 lbs each. No one said anything. On the way back from Tamrarindo they said the baggage was overweight and asked us to pay. I got out of it, but you may have the same situation happen. It’s the luck of the draw sometimes. Our flight only had 5 people on a 16 seater plane. Buena suerte.

I agree that the deals do exist like Scott said. We’re getting ready to close on some long range ocean view land, about 10 acres for $30,000 in Miramar (Montes de oro), Puntarenas. Only catch is we have to bring in the electricity from 1/2 km away and put in better roads on the land. Water is nearby. HINT: This was not advertising, but took networking to find. I realize not everyone has the time to do this, but realize you do not have to pay ridiculous prices if you choose not to. Sounds like you got a good deal….

My wife and I used Romolo Pacheco crlexs@racsa.co.cr for our residency. He and his partner rent space at Casa Canada, so I dont know if they are affiliated or not, but he was very professional and was referred to us specifically for this. As far as setting up a corp. and general real estate needs, we use Sergio Solera ssloera@fayca.com. He is with the firm Facio y Canas. They also have website http://www.fayca.com. I’ve been told they are one of the most influential firms in CR. We’ve had a great experience each time we’ve used them. Hope this helps.

According to their website, direct tv in CR offers the “NFL Passe” which is the same program as the “NFL Sunday Ticket”

yes, maybe some architects dont, but the one I’m currently using does and shows up at least once a week to make sure things are being done per plans and specs. Yes, maybe there are no regulations requiring this but building a house isnt something you want someone to do for you that is just “meeting the regulations”. Also, I didnt mention He (the builder) never went to the lot until the plans were complete either. No problem with outsourcing? How about taking the work away from a Tico firm? Anyway, yes there were some mistakes on my part. Mainly not listening to some of the advice found here and trusting someone else just because they had a wealth of information. I agree they are nice people, just not experienced in building in CR.

Steve, I would definitely NOT recommend using CR Builders (Dave McDuffie). They have NEVER built in CR and outsource the plans to Uruguay and the architect NEVER visits your lot. How is someone going to design plans without actually seeing the lot first? I could go on and on about the bad experience I had but I think this is enough for now. Just be careful. I would suggest whoever you use (I dont know anyone in that area) go look at their work, talk to previous clients (CR Builders didnt have any)and just like when you bought the property, due your research. Hope this helps.
