    FYI:
I furnished my home in Playa Bejuco after the builder put a furniture and appliance basic package in the house. He gave me what is “adequate” stuff. All wood and very servicable. 1 queen bed & two night stands, 2 twin beds & a night stand, and a entertainment center for TV.
I had a sleeper sofa built and upholstered in Alajuela for $600.
I used Lynn Gessemer in Jaco, Chungo designs, to make me lined drapes and put in wood blinds too. She provided great stuff that makes the house look wonderful. I bought a washer dryer at Importadora Mongo in Jaco and got a regular style frigidaire set for $600, paid with my master card. I also got a color TV, the cheapest they had at $135.
I bought a pub table and two swivel stools at Costa furniture that is very very nice but I paid $880 (tourist price).
I bought all my kitchen/dining furnishings at Cemacho in Alejuela just a short ride from the airport. I also got a floor lamp and throw pillows there.
I brought stuff from home in a large suitcase as checked luggage and declared nothing.

FYI: I purchased a single detached house in a gated community (in Sep 05) that has appreciated 40% since I bought the lot. I paid cash for the lot and paid installments as the house was built over 12 months. The final payment and transfer of title to my S.A. corp. is pending approval of the final urbanization plans in May 07. The builder, which has 30 homes and 10 townhouses plus a community pool, will finish out the development in 07 (we think). He predicts the house could be sold at that time and total appreciation would be 80%.
These numbers are based on sales in both this development and phase II which is nearby and almost sold out.

I just opened my acct at BCR in Jaco. My abogado provided a letter of intro, a utility receipt (the corp is housed at his office) and a persona jurisdica (check the spelling) naming me the director of the corp. A persona jurisdica is only good for 30 days.
The lawyer called the bank and they did a computer check on the corp. It takes 1 business day to clear.
A nice girl with enough english to get by opened a savings acct (in dollars)for me in the name of the corp. The debit card was issued a week later. I left the country but had the abogado’s office worker pick up the card and hold it in their safe. For this I needed a notarized letter to the bank.
I walked into a BCR branch in SJO and made a deposit the following day.

Avoid Jaco if you want “romantic”….its too busy.
I have enjoyed Canciones Del Mar in Jaco though. Great breakfast and right on the beach.

Try Estorillos centro or este….rent a house. Plenty of isolation, great walking beach at low tide. Do your grocery shopping in Jaco and kick back when you get to the beach.

Look at Hotel Delphin in Playa Bejuco too.

I now have a clarification from my attorney. He will set the ‘declared’ value and handle the transfer.
The ‘market’ value is what I paid to the seller and it is documented in the sales contract.
The ‘fiscal’ value has yet to be set but I intend to set it at the ‘market’ value and pay property taxes accordingly.
My ‘cost basis’ for any future capital gain is well documented by the sales contract and supported by bank records (wire xfers to the seller).

I am the owner of Lot 14 in CR LTD’s playa Bejuco development.
I am very very pleased with the house and the price was right.
The titles are due out next month.
The schedule though has been poorly planned/represented.
They are moving ahead but the schedule for completion has been very unrealistic from the start. My contract called out a 4-month construction period. We are now on month 8 and counting. I visit periodically and there is no problem with the project or the house, just the schedule.
The house, in fact, is great and the overall plan for the development is very good. I do suspect though that I won’t be swimming in the to be completed swimming pool for quite some time. It was once posted to be completed Dec 05.
Bob and Jeff are working like the devil and it will all happen in due time. As for the next project…who knows.
