There are also two beach campgrounds in Southern Nicoya. One right off the main road to Playa San Miguel and the other on Playa Coyote. Both near food and beer. However – the bathrooms leave something to be desired.
That could be disasterous, depending on the quality and amount of the aformentioned food and beer… 😯
raggedjackMember
Nice work Scott…pay it forward. If we all did a little something like this we help the direct beneficiary, contribute to the overall economy and maybe build up our own character just a wee bit.:D
I agree! And my dear friend owns a sign shop, she can make anything from a billboard to a bumper sticker. Let me know if you need anything!!!
raggedjackMember
OK you guys! Back on topic:lol:
Enough with the dead bodies!Great input so far… thanks to those who have responded.
Lurkers! Please respond (even if it’s a PM) We’re looking for the in-depth answers to questions we don’t even know enough to ask!
Thanks to everyone so far.
And I’m not jinxing myself by starting a retirement countdown!
OK, but altho I’ve seen every one of those questions discussed at (great) length in previous posts, NEVER have I seen an intelligent discussion of the pros/cons of storing bodies in chest-type freezers vs. a standup freezer until now.
I’m just sayin’…
raggedjackMember
Jack, if it’s bodies you’re planning to store, then we always counseled customers to go for the chest-type freezers (a minimum of seventeen cubic feet for adults, less for small children). It’s much more difficult to get a warm body to fold up and stay put while you slam the door on an upright freezer, and, because they have only a magnetic latch, sometimes they shift and push the door open unbeknownst to you. Then you’ll have a mess!

“I would think that popcorn would degrade over time but the styrofoam is a viable idea.” [and] “I can’t think of a reason why it would but does it make a difference whether filler is placed at the bottom or the top?”
Actually, the popcorn (popped, you understand) will keep for months and still be pretty fresh — fit to eat. [and] It shouldn’t make any difference where in the refrigerator or freezer you store the bags of popcorn. Displaced air is displaced air.
Dead bodies are not a practical means of keeping a freezer running economically. The stored up heat at the beginning is very expensive to dissipate and it takes a long time, so unless you’re planning on very long-term storage, be prepared for a net increase in your electricity bill for the first billing cycle. Then it’ll drop off noticeably.
All good points! I’ll discuss these with my shrink,,, errr,,, therapist on Friday.
2 years, 4 months, zero days, seven hours, thirty-four minutes till I can retire!
raggedjackMember

The secret to running a freezer or refrigerator economically is, in fact, to keep it full. When I was selling appliances, we used to counsel customers to fill their freezers with plastic bags of popcorn (styrofoam popcorn would work as well) to reduce operating costs. The more air that’s displaced the less that needs to be chilled.
Thanks for the input David. It’s something I never considered.
I would think that popcorn would degrade over time but the styrofoam is a viable idea.
I can’t think of a reason why it would but does it make a difference whether filler is placed at the bottom or the top?
And they’re handy places to store bodies while you’re digging a hole in rocky soil!
Oops, sorry, wrong forum! Never mind…

Some quotes on land ownership:“What is this you call property? It cannot be the earth, for the land is our mother, nourishing all her children, beasts, birds, fish and all men. The woods, the streams, everything on it belongs to everybody and is for the use of all. How can one man say it belongs only to him?” -Massasoit

“It is preoccupation with possession, more than anything else, that prevents men from living freely and nobly.” (Bertrand Russell)
raggedjackMember
That’s an interesting report on prison industries, John. In Michigan, all our prison populations used to be engaged in some sort of productive effort on a living unit-by-living unit basis.
Cellblock Nine at the State Prison of Southern Michigan in Jackson used to do truck gardening in the summer producing fresh vegetables and herbs for the prisoners’ consumption. Some years ago, an informant among the prisoner population reported to the authorities that a conspiracy was underway to hijack the prison’s entire annual production of dried herbs. They were to be sold outside on the black market. Think about it. A half ton of dried herbs has huge economic value.
The story broke in the prison newspaper under the headline, “Snitch in Nine Saves Thyme”.
Good one, David! 😆
raggedjackMember
What a crying shame they couldn’t find a Costa Rican to do the voice over for that video …
Scott Oliver – Founder
WeLoveCostaRica.com
He sure sounded a LOT more like a Costa Rican than me… Fooled me good! (EARLY 1st Level – Rosetta Stone) I gotta study harder.
raggedjackMemberI’m glad you guys are already down there worrying about all that stuff… when I get there, I just want to relax a little and live a less stressful life.
Work it all out before 2013, if you would 😉
raggedjackMember
Hi Scott,
I still have a lot to do before opening but it’s all coming together. I have all of my permits except the final patente from the municipalidad which I expect to receive later this week.
The restaurant is fairly small and aimed mostly at takeout and home delivery customers but I have seating for 20 to 25 people. Once everything is running smoothly (and profitably), I hope to open a second location with a larger dining room and a liquor license.
Mmmmmmmmmm… BBQ
I’ll be by for a sandwich sometime in 2013!
raggedjackMember
Who will play the irrepressable Don Diego, Do-Gooder David and Sprite the Heathen?
I have (for some odd reason) been following this… and I think Desi Arnaz (in full ‘Ricky Riccardo’ mode) to play Don San Diego (name changed for creative license) due both to his uncanny resemblance and his 50’s attitudes.
For the female lead… Sharon Osborne (secretly leading a group of strong, independent, successful women).
May need an R rating for all the blood… 🙄

Well said. That can apply to LOTS of media coverage, from any country, on any subject.
Now I must go and cancel my vacation to Florida, as I hear the icebergs will be arriving any day!
raggedjackMemberI think I found what you are looking for… It is a cellular modem. It will work only as well (or probably just a little bit worse) than a cell phone will in a given location…
raggedjackMember
My reception is nil in my house. Must walk up the hill to get some bars on the cell. (When the ladrones come, I plan to excuse myself to exit and make a quick phone call.)
So if the transmission is through cell tower, I am out of luck. That is why I was asking if they were using satellite.
My computer experience began in 1980, but I have no knowledge of ICE’s equipment, systems or methods. I would have to assume it is pretty much what is used in the US. But, as usual, I could be wrong….
If ICE has begun offering broadband service over cell signal, it is probably using a USB device like you describe. Then it will work just like your cell phone: Good phone connection, ‘ok’ internet connection. Bad cell signal, no internet signal. AT&T and Verizon offer this service in the US, but it’s $60 or more per month, so if it works where you are, the price isn’t bad…
If it were something that ran from a satellite, it would require much more routing equipment than I have ever seen able to be put into a small USB device, have to be aimed just right, and be much more expensive.
I am trying to find something on ICE’s website, but my Spanish is all but nonexistent, and I don’t know how well they keep their site up to date…
raggedjackMemberI’d have to see one, but it sounds like a WI-FI dongle, and you would have to currently be in an area served by a WI-FI signal… It is for laptops which do not already have built-in WI-FI capability.
Unless they have invented something reallllly cool that I haven’t seen…….
