Can anyone tell me, if the gas station in Sardinal, has diesel fuel available? We are looking at at a VW TDi and dont want to drive 100km for fuel:shock:
Not sure which “Sardinal” your are talking about, but if it is the one in Guanacaste (versus Punta Renas), please indulge the following comments:

I will admit up front that I have not visited all of the “La Bombas” in Costa Rica or even those in Guanacaste, but everyone I have been to sells diesel. And Guanacaste/Sardinal is only 7km from Highway 21 and I am pretty sure you will find a fuel station (including diesel) within 10-15km either way.

Many, many people have a much longer hike than that!
Thanks for the response, we are talking about the Guanacaste,:D

Yup, that’s what we did. It took awhile ( 7 trips to the bank) but we finally got an account set up. 😯

So after reading all that, and learning nothing<: ……..can someone tell me if its raining in Coco?

Yes we checked residency out, and we budgeted $3500 for residency, just hoped that we could do it cheaper…I hate paying retail for anything:wink: We have contacted Immigration Experts in Coco, and will start the process on Monday. That gives us a good 3 months to get the paper work together. Tho we don’t want to get it done too soon, only have 6 months from date of issue////ohh the fun and games of moving to CR, but it will be worth it on Sept 1st, when we are sitting by the pool with an ice cold Imperial:D
As an aside…we did get a bank account opened when we were there in March, though with a $1000 maximum deposit allowance. BUT, we can get our bank statements from canada, apostiled and they will average out the last 6 months of our deposits and reset the limit to reflect that amount. Getting a bank account set up without residency is not impossible, but is damn hard on the nerves

    Gracias…please be gentle with your answers <;
I don’t know about a “specific” community of Canadians. I can tell you there a lot of Canadians in the Playa Del Coco/Playa Hermosa area in Guanacaste. I know a number of Canadians own condos and/or homes in the Pacifico development in Playa del Coco. You won’t have any problem finding each other.

We just purchased directly behind the Pacifico development in Coco. Every Monday and Friday PM, a group of Expats meets at Pato Loco Motel and Restaurant for drinks and conversation..see you there 😀

Thanks everyone for the tips and ideas. We hope to have our newly formed corp in the system by Friday, then we can go ahead and start the process ( again<:)

On the up side…we have learned more about Costa Rican real estate, and banking in 1 month, than 2 years of internet research!

    Biggest thing we have learned?
    If they say 1 day….its 5 days
    If they say 5 days…its 3 weeks
    If they say 3 weeks…its 2 months
If they say 2 months…screw it, they forgot about it 😯

Ok…we went to the lawyer today and were informed we can open a bank account under our newly formed corporation without a Dimex number, or even without any immigration papers filed. Unfortunately we were told the corporation was not complete. So we asked our lawyer a ton of questions and learned a ton of things! We talked and joked with him and he was more than willing to answer all our stupid questions. After we were done, we shook hands and were on our way out…. his assistant comes into the room and said oh sorry!! I had the paper work for the corporation finished on Friday and forgot to give it to you:shock: So we made plans to go the bank on Wednesday, and we learned that yes indeed…..things move slowly here in Costa Rica, but they do move 😛

Taste of Texas has moved to the small food court, mid town. Had a couple of burgers and and a brisket sandwich, with the worlds best coleslaw there a couple of days ago. $20 well spent:D

in reply to: Roofing with shingles? #166176

Greetings all…we are looking at houses to buy in Playas del Coco. We have found one we really like, but are concerned about the roof material…it is shingled…they are very good quality, 3 tab , 30 year shingles, the same we use in Canada. But we are not used to seeing shingles used here, has anyone have any info or experience with shingles used instead of traditional tiles etc,?
    Thanks1
Unsolicited opinion from a general contractor in Fla, if you have another choice other than asphalt shingles, go with that one. Albeit the Fla sun is not that of Costa Rica, but comparable, asphalt will actually start to degrade in 10 years or less (even thought they rate them at 30 year), the replacement is prorated depending on how long the warranty is for, it’s a total scam.

I know nothing of the warranty backing in CR, but if you have a choice between metal, tile or asphalt, go with the 1st two.
Thanks for the info:D…Im familiar with shingles back in Canada, and yes, they NEVER last as long as they say they will. What surprises me about this home is that owner is an engineer, and for the life of me I can’t figure out why he went with shingles. The rest of the home is built top end..no crap at all, imported marble , Spanish tile flooring, exceeds all seismic codes..just these damn shingle give me a concern. they look great, and are in good shape ( 7 years old) and the roof joists, are 24″ OC ( on center) so the roof is strong enough…just not familiar with shingles here……
