I was sad to hear of Dicks experience. How amazing but not surprising from the way things seem to go there at times. I am enclosing a letter I received from Angela Passman 14 days ago…………

Cathy,
It is true, you can bring a bird into the country effective March 08 without cutting the tendon. I am in the process of gathering all of what is now required to bring them in. Dr. Gurdian (Head of Ministry of Agriculture) says that it IS going to be very difficult to get them out of the country but not impossible. It is not an easy process to get them in or out as there is a lot of paperwork involved but it is far easier to get them into the US than to get them into Costa Rica.@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
ReMemberHi Scott, thanks so much for the contact. It IS now legal to get the parrots in as of March 8th of 2008. Angela Passman has spoken with Dr. Gurdian (Head of Ministry of Agriculture) and he has confirmed this. Allso ARCR says this. It is just supposed to be a very long involved process and possibly expensive……..that is why I am hoping to talk with people who have gotten their parrots in SINCE this change. It was incredibly hard to even come by this official contact with Dr. Guardian but now that it is confirmed it is a big relief. There is really a surprising amount of people who are on these forums who are waiting to bring their parrots down. Alot of these parrots have been in families for a decade are more .So I am not sure what they are saying when they say it is difficult but can be done……again…..hoping to get some clarity from those who have done this, find a lawyer who has worked with these people and so on……..thanks for the info………..Cathy
ReMemberThe US Gov. is I think hoping as many boomers as possible LEAVE the soil of the States because they really don’t want to have to cover every medical occasion that happens to each of us………not to mention what it’s going to cost as we all get seriously older!! I think this is why they are setting up VA med benefits in other countrys and other types of programs……it costs them less to take care of us on foreign soil. That’s what I have heard in discussions with other boomers…who knows!!
ReMemberHi Tom…..from Portland…..I live in Eugene. If you would like to email me it would be interesting to talk with someone else that is in the planning stages of moving…… palmdreams@comcast.net
ReMemberHave to wonder if this isn’t the good ole USA news being controled by the Gov.! Costa Rica doesn’t exactly pal up to the US. doesn’t back them up on things. Could be part of it!
ReMemberthis post was so fantastic! Thanks so much for taking the time to be so specific. What a treat! It will really help.
ReMemberAs for INSIDE Costa Rica, if you are living in an ungated community in the mountains – surrounded by people who’s family income is about $250-$350 per month – unless you have a very good security system, I honestly don’t think these “valuables” will be around for too long.
HI, this really amazed me to read this! when you say, “the mountains” are you meaning towns like Grecia and San Ramon and their…. oh let’s say close outskirts? Is a safe life there really that exclusive? I hope I”m just not understanding this! I had no idea! Any clarity or expanding on this would be great….thanks, Cathy
ReMemberI’d love to see some info on this too. I don’t know where to start…!!
ReMemberHi Scott, thanks for your reply! Could you check with your friend and see if he would be able to talk via email? I will be looking for a house to buy so he could possibly help me there too! Thanks, Cathy
ReMemberHi Scott, This is off of the dog topic but is pet realted ! I hope to move my parrots there when I come and am wondering if there are parrot shops or places where I can buy really large cages for them…I’m wondering if many people have pet parrots there…hoping to get a place out of larger towns so they can live outside most of the time but cages are necessary..also feed and etc…would you happen to know anything about this? thanks if you do, Cathy
