Here! Here! to Jerrys comments.
Ruth
rf2crParticipantPud,
Through this forum I purchased a book called “The Legal Guide to Costa Rica” by Roger A. Petersen, it has been extremely helpful.
Regards,
Ruthrf2crParticipantSpent a couple of nights at El Cafetal based upon what we had seen online – Don’t bother with it, rooms were expensive and small, there was barely a trickle of water in the shower, couldn’t use the phone to call the US without the manager who wasn’t on the property until very late at night. There are so many great places to stay, I’d give this one a pass.

Thank you gentlemen for your information and comments, I think we will not offer to finance, just make the decision if/when asked.
Saludos,
Ruthrf2crParticipantScott,
There appears to be some misunderstanding, we have ZERO interest in getting into the business of foreclosures. We have considered offering to carry paper on one of the properties we have for sale and merely wondered if anyone has gone through the experience of having to foreclose on a defaulting buyer and what is involved.
Regards,
Ruthrf2crParticipantBill,
Greatly appreciate your reply, what you have given me is commonsense and these are legal things that we would handle with any property sale.
What I really hope to get from this posting is people who have actually had to go through the forclosure process and their experiences.
Thanks & Saludos
Ruth Fountainerf2crParticipantJavier,
Could you please email me a phone number in LA where I can contact you.
Thank you – Ruth Fountaine – rfatacg@yahoo.com
rf2crParticipantGringoTico –
Delightfully & susuccintly stated! But, for those of you who have not yet had the pleasure of driving Costa Rica – go for it! You will see some incredible scenery while you are driving around trying to find your way back to where you are supposed to be, just give yourselves about three times the amount of time anyone says you will need to get from a to b. I would however avoid driving in San Jose, THAT is hell on earth.
rf2crParticipantHi – You can get in touch with Chris at carnold3@aol.com, me at rfatacg@yahoo.com – phone # for Chris is (760) 329-3423. Hope you two can work something out.
Another location you might want to consider is Casa Turire near Turriabla. it is a fairly easy drive from San Jose, the hotel and grounds are beautiful, the food and service excellent. I am sure the staff there could organize everything that you need. Don’t have it to hand but believe their website is casaturire.com.
Regards, Ruth
rf2crParticipantOnce again – Many thanks, I will be sure that you are not cheated out of your ten colones, even buy you a beer or a cup of coffee if we ever meet.
Ruth
rf2crParticipantDavid,
Thank you so much for all of the very helpful information. I was hoping that there was some way to avoid that very expensive dish installation but it looks like that either we accept the cost or do without. Could you give me a contact address for Don Paul.
Thanks again, you have been most generous with your time and knowledge.
Ruth
rf2crParticipantI concur with the above, Villa Caletas would be a beautiful site for a wedding. If there is any way it could be combined, our daughter Chris would be delighted to photograph your wedding while visiting CR, you can check her out at christinearnoldphotography.com.
rf2crParticipantFacinating, hope joseph1 continues to visit (but not move to – don’t think he would last the 5 year average) and enjoy what Costa Rica has to offer while leaving his hard earned dollars there.
We are not “lost”, just looking forward to living a less hectic, more natural life and enjoying the Pura Vida.
rf2crParticipantRob & Amy,
We have just returned from purchasing land in the Arenal area, we looked at a lot of different pieces, some with houses and some without. Prices are all over the place, it is hard to fix a price range, some both gringo and tico properties are outrageously priced others quite reasonable. It certainly does not seem to be based on “comparables”. A lot depends upon location and view. In my estimation it is extremely difficult to fix a realistic price and there is really only one way to do it and that is to go and look at different properties and compare prices and get a feel for what you consider reasonable.
Suggest that you get in touch with Jim & Rene at Rico Realty (ricorealty@hotmail.com). They have lived in the area for quite a long time and know it well. They were very patient with us and showed us a lot of property before we made our decision. They were very good about giving us the pros and cons of the various parcels.
Good Luck.
Ruthrf2crParticipantThanks for the info Scott.
Plan to build a house right in the middle of the 45 acres so that we cannot see or hear another person unless we are so inclined. That is about 50% joke and 50% serious, I am just about sick of neighbours who are determined that our business is their business (and our house in the middle of our ten acres!) We will run a few head of fattening bulls on the property to make use of it, but basically just enjoy it.
Thanks again,
Ruth -
