Leu reimbursed myself and 3 other victims that I know of once we called him out on it. I believe the best way to put this thing to rest is to let the IRS have a good look at his “business”. There are probably hundreds of victims out there who are blissfully unaware they have been scammed. The numbering on his maps started out with 1-140, and now it is in the 600s, so that in itself is a glaring example these “lots” that he does not own hae been sold multiple times each, which is another crime in itself.
saltwaterMemberThe maps you provided to your vitims/”customers” clearly show the individual lots. Both the Jaco and Margarita maps. Both maps also show roads. However, there are no dimension provided for ANY of the lots, they are all listed as “1.75 acre lots with ocean views”. None of these properties have oceanviews. The fact that these units are being sold as “lots” would indicated that there has been some type of survey and staking of the area to define the perimeters of the “lots”. So for example, if you bought lot 56, you should be able to find it, correct? You should also be able to provide the dimensions of the lot, also, correct? There are no measurments on any of the maps provided, and when you ask for the dimensions of your lot, that you purchased, by its number, you get no response, or you are threatend with a lawsuit.
saltwaterMemberRead the disclaimer at the bottom of this document from Stewart title. I thought the Government of Costa Rica held the monopoly on issuing insurance. The title insurance seems rather worthless, in this case. I have actualy been to both locations, and there is no development as shown in Leu’s ads. Perhaps this attorney has some photos of this land he can show us?
saltwaterMemberI wonder if anyone has informed the Internal Revenue Service in the US about Michael Leu.
saltwaterMemberI was looking on Ebay today, and saw 2 lots leu sold on there. they are listed by other people, but it is probably him selling them, due to the verbage of the ads. If I every hit the lotto, Im going to fly as whole tribe of kekoldi’s to leu’s house in ohio, and give them bogus titles to his house, and have them all knock on the door and ask where their land is located at.
saltwaterMemberSell the car for what you have in it. Sell it to a drunk, who will wreck it. After the wreck, the police will be able to find her! (Just kidding)
saltwaterMemberNo, it wasnt me. I can recommend an attorney here in the Jacksonvile, Florida who helped me, if needed.
saltwaterMemberHello, Scott, I am suprised to hear that Leu is still in business. A few years ago, back in ’03, I bought 2 lots from Leu, (after checking the national registry to ensure he was the owner) and began making monthly payments. About 4 or 5 months later I was able to get down there to look at the lots, one was just outside of Jaco, The other in a small village called Margarita, near the Sixaola river. Needless to say, the lot near Jaco had squatters and a drug lab on it, and the rest of the land was basically a cliff. The lot in Margarita was on a Kekoldi Indian reservation, and it was quite awkward when this gringo walked up with his bogus title from Leu and began asking the natives “Where is my land”. Even THEY knew it was a fraud(it has been going on over 20 yrs). After returning to the US, I hired an attorney and began legal proceedings against Leu. He paid my investment back, and 2 other people who had bought lots from him. This event shattered my confidence in the legal and title systems of Costa Rica. Ive been back several times since then, and with the knowledge Ive gained from others down there, I would rent in the area for about 6 months or so, before I would even consider purchasing land. Ive attempted to buy on several occasions, but the deals always fell through. What is shown in the pictures isnt always what you get. Im curious, do they have cold milk there yet, or is it still in a cardboard box, sitting on a shelf, next to the eggs?
saltwaterMemberSomewhere, a group of notaries is probably salivating over the thought of 12 million chinese “investors” buying land in Costa Rica. Boy, are they in for a suprise. I’m wondering how many times they could sell the same plot of land to different chinese investors before they catch on?(sounds like a challenge!) Costa Rica isnt like any African nation, although unregulated chinese investment may make it like that. I’m no genious, but I predict a big war in the middle east this summer, and one of the consequences of it is going to be a global recession/depression, which will result in huge stock losses on both hemispheres, and a slowdown in manufacturing. In my opinion, China’s growth is unsustainable.
saltwaterMemberOn my last visit, I rented a cell phone when I picked up my rental car. If you are going to remain in the city, you will have coverage, but if youre going off the beaten path to search for real estate, youre better off with a cage full of carrier pigeons. Cost= 1 1/2 week rental was $80.00 for a phone that would not work when I needed it to.
saltwaterMemberA couple of years ago a freind of mine was bragging how he would no longer be cutting grass, as he had bought 4 goats to keep his yard trimmed up. One thing about goats is they seek high ground, by nature. A week or so after his goat-investment, he noticed that the goats didnt “mow” his yard very level or get the areas along the fence like he thought they would; and they prefered to eat from his families garden versus the yard. But the really bad part, was when he came home and found 2 of the goats fighting over who was going to be “king of the hill” on the roof of his wifes new Volvo, which resulted in the destruction of the volvos glass sunroof and dents in the top surfaces of the car, which ultimately led to the untimely deaths of the 4 unassuming goats. LESSON- keep anything you dont want messed up FAR away from the goats- they need a pen or pasture of their own. But they do help keep snakes away, due to their scent.
saltwaterMemberIm reading this old thread, and Im thinking, maybe Diego went to a bar and picked up a “girl”, but after he got home, turned the lights down low, put on a little Barry White music, and then found out she had…. an adams apple…….
saltwaterMemberI wish they had trailer parks in Costa rica. Correct me if Im wrong, but I think Ticos like rednecks. I dont need a mansion, a singlewide near the beach with a bunch of other gringos and tico/a’s is all I need.
saltwaterMemberI would try and contact someone at the land/sea marina and maybe they can help. Not making any promises, but they are Americans and have been in Golfito for years, and are undoubtedly quite socially connected with the area.
saltwaterMemberwell, Next time Im down, I’ll bring youall a big jar of those pickled pigs feet. It seems like you all are subtly asking for them. Seriously, I believe theres a huge market void for gringo products in rural areas. Doritos is another good example.
