When flying United, unless you have a ‘in cabin’ pet, they fly ’Petsafe' not so with all other airlines where they can be considered ‘excess baggage’.
Traveling as ‘cargo’ on other airlines, usually is because the animals are over 100lb including kennels, plus additional expenses since you are not on the same flight.

Yes we had to fly them as cargo because one of my dogs is a boxer mix and american airlines (who we had already booked our flights with) doesn’t allow snub nose dogs to fly with them. We didn’t want to separate our 2 dogs so they’re both flying petsafe through united. I’m just trying to figure out how to get a hold of a customs broker to arrange their entry into the country.
Hi Sarah,

We recently brought our two American bull dogs in and we did not use a broker. We just made sure all their paper work was in order and the vet letter had the official US stamp on the header. It can not be older than 10 days before they travel. Their Rabies shot has to be 30 days before they travel.
Good luck, our dogs Love it here!!
Thanks, that sounds easy! Did you ship your dogs on a cargo plane or were they on a plane with you? I read that it’s a lot easier to get them through customs if they come on the same plane with you.

    Hello all,

Sorry I haven’t checked back on this post for awhile. Just for future knowledge a 2003 Ford Ranger is about $6500 to ship, not including shipping container rates. Thank you to all who pointed me in the right direction to receive a reliable estimate.

    Monica,

I have been working through Rafael Valverde with Outlier Legal. He has been a great help.

Well I still haven’t gotten any sort of response or quote from the first recommended company, but I’m pretty sure it’s in part becuase of the holidays and will probably get a response this week. I will be checking out the other one that was also recommended as well. That is pretty insane that they charged that much for the Santa Fe. I have a 2003 Ford Ranger so I can’t imagine my quote being much different. Is it almost worth it to just sell the vehicle before and then buy another when I get to CR?

Thank you for the responses so far. Maybe I should have explained myself a little further in the original post.

I am aware of the legality issues with gaining residency in CR, as well as the fact that I would not be able to work at my own restaurant under their current laws. Also, I should mention that we plan to visit these places before making the final move. Additionally, I would never jump into starting a business without getting a feeling for the area for awhile before I began seriously pursuing that dream. In the mean time, I will be able to use my GI Bill which is a benefit that will pay my living costs while I am enrolled in a online business degree. On top of that, my wife has a job that allows her to work on the internet from virtually anywhere. I’m glad that the whole baby loop hole was mentioned, my wife and I had read into that a few times and is seriously considered as an option.
