Well Scott I was just giving one of your readers the real truth “why I use this site and forum for real information and to research without all the sales pitches” that they wanted.

I do know that Costa Rica is by far not the poorest of countries and also not the worst in polution in Central America, but we also have to give the bad with the good to your readers. The U.S might be the most ” The USA remains the world’s biggest polluter although China is catching up fast ” as one country but if you compare the rest of the world to us as a whole we would be the lowest. Lets take all of EU, Germany, and all of the rest as awhole and compare it to the U.S. Then you will have a different answer! or take all of Central America and South America and you will see that the U.S. is much better in the standards preventing polution. You can’t say that Costa Rica has the resources such as sewage treatment plants and garbage collection points to keep up with the demand.

The good news is compared to Africa I would live in any Central or South American country before I would step foot there!

Ok so you want the truth,

1.) Costa Rica is like other Latin countries where there is a big differance from the rich and poor.

2.) Polution is a big problem! Go for a drive and look in the rivers along the city and towns you will find appliances, plastic, tires and everything else.

3.) The country doesn’t bring in engough taxes so the normal school system has big problems. The kids have to copy the school books because they don’t have enough money to buy new ones. ect.

I could go on but really its the same in all of latin america. I know of this because my wife is a real Tica and all of her family is in Costa Rica. Her cousins are coffe pickers in San Ramon and they can paint even a harder picture. If you really want to know what Costa Rica is really about I challange you to live in a normal Tico neighborhood where everyone has bars on the windows, suicide showers, metal roofs and everyone makes less than $800.00 a month!

So when you see these people moving to CR because they don’t want to do the normal day to day chores, remeber most Ticos would love to have the opertunity to live in the U.S.!

Don’t get me wrong and think that I am slaming CR but I will not put on the rose glasses and tell people it is paradise!

Well Sprite, I have some bad news for you! If you think that Costa Rica is your paradise it is changing!

In five years from now it won’t look like it is today. This country is changing rapidly and there are many examples such as child seats that are mandatory with huge fines that surpass even the U.S. standards. In one years time since my wife and I have moved to Paraguay we have seen big differences when we arrived for the holidays in Costa Rica. It has become i expensive for property and the cost of living, also more and more gringos are arriving. This is changing the face of Costa Rica.

“Only a broad, enlightened population could ever have done that. That population has not existed for at least several decades.”

Yes this is true that population died with the bell bottom pants and heavy drugs from the 70s. That population became what they didn’t want to be corporate Americans.

The world is ending! So move to paradise (Costa Rica) and grab a joint and enjoy.

I am so glad you said that too, I hate the politicaly correct people in the U.S. and wish that all the crazy liberals would stay out of Costa
Rica. I mean really you don’t see any ticos taking diversity class or stupid stuff like that which U.S. culture has pounded into peoples head.

If we can keep all of those kinds of people out of Costa Rica it will stay a normal Latino country!

Boy I hope the Ticos don’t cave into the Gringo issues and don’t pass a bill that will slow down the crazy growth that has been happening.

They need to focus on changing the laws to stop the perpetual tourist and prevent people from coming to Costa Rica and thinking of making a living here.

This is a prime example of using the sytem to benifit only yourself. Could you do the same work in the states and export your work to Costa Rica? Do you think there are many Ticos that can do the same job that you do?

I belive that you are just looking out for your own self and can’t see the bigger picture. You will probley use the medical service that CR offers?

Costa Rica is a small country and if you really think about it you are doing more damage than good. Up to this point have you been working and employing a Costa Rican for your biz paying them the same wages that you would if they were in the states? Are you a purpetural trouist?

    Boy Maravilla,

You really know how to take advantage of CR don’t you

“permanent residency status under the artist category, and in May i am eligible for PR no matter what, but this is extremely stressful thinking about whether i even want to live in CR now. And who gave Arias the orders to keep poor pensionados out of CR?”

I think this law is aimed for people just like you and this is why the average Tico is upset of people like you. I think CR doesnt need any more artist!

And yes Arias has the right to give the orders he is the president of CR! You are not!

    Maravil,

I think you need to take a realty check, this is not the wild 70’s and you don’t have a clue on how big of a impact that the U.S. has even made in Costa Rica this year alone. You wouldn’t know because you are too busy bashing and reading your books.

Where do you think Costa Rica gets most of its humanitarian aid from? England, China? Do you think that if the U.S. stopped helping out Costa Rica that they would feel a impact?

If you think the U.S. only gives for favors you should see what Chav does! Or how about China, do you think they would like to have the vote from Costa Rica against Ti?

In Central and South America it is a race for U.S. Chav and China, I know that people in central and south would like to see the U.S. win that race because Chav says one thing and does another.

On the other had maybe you should keep your rose colord glasses on so that don’t see the poverty like the Nicas have to endur with the promisses of Chav!

yes. that tour guide was a native and only had a husband that worked in the state department.

But it is ok, you just think the way you think and the world will turn around you. You are so clueless and wouldnt know what is really going on down in most of the regions because you are too busy slaming the only country that has the will to help.

You can read all the fiction books that you want but until you live the life just talk to the hand.

Well Maravilla I am very credible, but that is a different topic because of my job.

You don’t understand how central and south American countries rely on the U.S and our military. If there is a disaster anywhere in the region the first ones that are proactive is the U.S and it is the Mil support that gets the job done, not USAID or any other government agency.

So if Costa Rica has mud slids and people are dying the U.S. is supportive.

When it comes to Ven, they are all talk and no shows. When Chavez says he is going to do something it is only a 40% chance it will come to pass and this is proven.

Can’t go into details but you should be very glad that the U.S. is helping these countries with out the press other wise the Latin countries would look at YOU (gringa) and ask why don’t you help!
The U.S. is the only one that is pumping in Millions of dollars to help in Humanitarian Aid, I don’t see the U.K, Canada, or any others that make a hemispheric impact with no strings attached!!!!

I just talked to the DPO here in Paraguay and the issue is that you can recive mail however it can only be 1st class mail and only letters no boxes. This is the rule for APOs but since all of the counties are switching to DPOs the rules might change in the future. For the better or worst who knows?

Here in Paraguay we only get mail once a week so they are getting more fussy on what comes into the DPO.

Also you will have to pass the security check from the RSO and show your military ID.
