jaja, Bill
Well my mother in-law does accept it. She was married to her husband for 34 years and the amount of hunting he did until he reached his 70’s would have put most men to shame. She caught him a couple of times but always took him back. She tells me the reason is for the family and she would not want to divorce for that reason and she was in love with him.
Now many Americans would think that she might be a weak womon, and they would be dead wrong. My mother in-law endoured a history that would make most people cry. She lost her mother at birth (her mother was beaten because she was preganat with her, this in it self is even a longer story)was raised from her mothers aunt until she was eight. When she had to leave the home because her mothers family wanted to marry her off to a 30 year old Tico. She ended up living as a house maid for a rich land owner for 15 years until the tico of the house started to make advancements on her. My mother in-law grew up in San Ramon at this was 50 + years ago. How ever many events are still taking place like this in CR.
Yes they do know if there tico is on the prowl and might have a couple of girl friends. When I was dating my wife I met many of her friends. They would talk about how many Ticos were unfaithful and that was a problem. They also talked about how many ticos didn’t like to date higher educated women like my wife and her friends. The ticos would feel intimidated.
“were they taught from birth that this is okay”
I just asked my wife this question and she said “yes and no” When her brothers got to be a certain age her father would encourage such behavior. He would encourage them to hunt for as many women before they married, of course the boys also read between the lines. We all know this as Mochoism. This is in the latin culture and many women just put up with this. If they really do love the man they will put up with it to a certain point.scottbensonMemberYou are right Scott she should be thrilled,
One of my brother in law is only paying 100.00 for two kids. How ever he has hid his income because the company is in his name and my other brother-law. How ever the Cr goverment is cracking down and one time they came to the biz looking for him because he didn’t pay for 3 months. Even though he has the money when he is upset with the ex he will stop paying, this kind of mentality is coming to a stop.
If I was her I would contact the embassy and a lawyer in CR that their family trusts. Then he would have to go back and fight it out in the courts. Since the CR goverment does have the right to extradite the father from the U.S. (I don’t know about Canada)he needs to take it seriously and get a hold of the CR embassy today!
CR is cracking down and they are getting a heavy hand on child support.
scottbensonMemberWell rest a sure that he won’t be paying 900.00 a month from his life style in CR.
My brother in-laws which have a track record with women and child support and could make a soccer team with their kids could tell you some stories. Costa Rica is getting much tougher with the laws regarding child support how ever my brother in-laws make a heck of a lot more money than a waiter and a school teacher and pay a heck of a lot less than 900. a month.
What your husband should do is find a good lawyer in CR that will help with this situation.
How ever all of the stuff that she has or does dosent matter that I understand from my in-laws.
How ever what does matter is that he has to have a written order regarding payments. When ever my brothers leave the country they have to make sure all child support is pay for one year in advance before they can leave. They did have payments in written orders with the country.scottbensonMemberYou also might want to check out areas south west of San Jose along the pacific ridge. This area has not been populated as much as the area that you are bloging about. South of Cartago on the way to San Isdro. This area has many un touched areas still!
scottbensonMemberYes, I belive this forum is correct about building!
How ever remember too that when buying a home many sellers are trying to make a huge profit. Many sellers buy a home live in it for a year and think that it is worth 4 or 5 times more than they bought it for!
So these are all of the delimas that you will have to take in consideration Time, Hasel, Money and Trust!
What ever you do I would suggest you come down and stay for 6 months just to decied if you can adapt to the culture and environment!
scottbensonMemberyaaya, I can see you never been to Columbia! U.S. militrary personnel are posted in every Embassy around the world! So what? The embassy is U.S. property that we protect!
The countries in Central and South America need and want the education that the U.S. can give on combating Drug Traficing. Belive it or not the U.S. is the primary educator on many issues that include this topic. If it was not for the education that these countries learn from the U.S. they would be suffering from a lot more issues that are related to the drug loards.
Yes, the U.S. would love to have a base around CR but that is just a mith that one would develop. Since we have other bases around Central America that are picking up the work load from Panama. Yes you are right about the politics too.
I don’t think we want to mix the terroist with the drug problem. That will take all day to thread about.
scottbensonMemberThanks David for the Correction,
How ever 27 dollars is the cheapest health coverage I have ever herd of in the United States! Even my friends that are retired from the Federal Goverment don’t have that kind of bennifit. They are paying 280.00 a month. My mother has blue cross is paying 600.00 a month! For a 75 year old lady that is a lot! That means the State of Michigan is picking up a huge amount of the share of Insurance. That is a good deal!
But for the majority of people I think that 37.00 is a great deal!
I have seen many people post questions of meds and want the Costa Rican goverment to pick up more and wonder why? I ask, why look at a gift horse in the mouth? You are paying a lot less than back in the U.S.!
scottbensonMemberDavid, Just a question. Have you considered the amount of money that you would be saving by going on the CAJA systme? If you save lets just say 600.00 a month would you feel better for picking up the cost of paying for your drugs?
Example: In the U.S. you have to pay 800.00 for heath care. I belive this is the average if not more. In Costa Rica you can get on CAJA and private health care for 45.00.
That is a savings of 755.00
Then if you drug bill is lets say 300.00 in the U.S.
It will probley be half or less than half so lets say 150.00That means you will pay 45 + 150.00 = 195.00 a month
If you were in the U.S. 800.00+300.00= 1100.00 a month
Would this be worth a wait in the line?
Would this be worth the hasle?Don’t get me wrong because I belive you are doing the best by paying for it your self. How ever I just want to point out to most people that putting money into the CAJA system is better than paying the high cost in the U.S. even if you have to pay for your own meds.
Lets not expect the Costa Rican goverment to give hand outs. Remember this system was and is set up for Ticos that make a lot less than in the U.S. They also have a no frils system not like in the U.S. where in every hospital they have a million dollars worth of art haning around.
scottbensonMemberMarivil, I don’t want to get off of the subject but want to point a misconception that the U.S. society has for example “And haven’t you ever wondered why there are only shelters for battered women and not men?”
I can tell you why we do not have battered shelters for men! First is the funding for women’s organizations out number the men’s organizations 4 to 1. Second is the social issue that men are stronger and more dominant that women and because of this cause more of a threat. Third because men don’t believe in reporting that they have been beaten up by a women or abused by them.
I have done some volunteer work for a men’s organization and believe me they have been abused as much as women, its just not reported. However lets stay on the topic, it is Costa Rica culture that we are talking about and how gringa’s might find it hard to date.
I think with the culture in the U.S. where we have to be educated in Social order every time we get a new job, such as classes of Discrimination, Cultural Diversity and sexual conduct. These will and have changed the U.S. culture. In the last 20 to 30 years, the tables have been changed for women in and out side of the work place. Women now are making the same amount of money and have the same right if not more than men. ( I know statistically that is not true, how ever statistics can be altered to fit the needs of a group. I have never seen a fed ex driver get paid more just because he is a man!)
Dating has change a lot! This is good and bad because this has created a barrier for some men to want to date a Gringa. Maybe they have had divorces where they feel used and abused or maybe they don’t want to feel like they are competing with feminism. In other cultures around the world like Costa Rica, women don’t have the same views as gringa! This does not make them weak or uneducated! Like my wife says she can get more done in a day with a pretty smile than hitting men over the head with feminism!
As Tico Gringo stated This is not to say that there are not intelligent and powerful women in Costa Rica, there are indeed! But they retain their feminine side proudly, with no social axe to grind with men. They generally think of feminism as anti-family.
My mother in-law will testify to the anti-family statement!
This might be a reason why many Gringos (a growing population) are going in search of a mate to other cultures! How ever it will be more difficult for a Gringa to except the cultural differences of a Tico. (they don’t have cultural diversity or discrimination classes in most companies in Costa Rica.).
scottbensonMemberDiego, I do understand that you might be a stright forward kind of a guy, and I respect that. I have read the artical and understand her view point. That is all it is a view point!
How ever as some of the people on this board know I have a connection to this issue. When I showed that article to my wife she almost choked to death! I am trying to convince her to right a article for Scott about the view point of a Tica! As you can guess I am married to a Tica, and have been for the last five years.
My wife read the article and said that is a gringas view point! Some of the comments that Margie Davis state such as
“These Ticas tend to be very attractive and have been brought up to treat men as gods (general statement). These women don’t think of themselves as independent thinkers with aspirations for personal or career growth. They want to marry a wealthy men and secure their futures by having babies. Procreating is what they’ve been trained to do.”
My wife thought this was funny since she recived her masters degree in Economics at the Univeristy of Costa Rica in San Jose. (this is not a private collage it is the true goverment Univeristy) As well as she worked for one of the most prestige organizations in Costa Rica called IICA researching and teaching about ISO certification to farmers, where she also wrote many books for the World Organization. Her friends which are highly educated ticas and ticos would pass this kind of rehtoric as the gringa answer to her problems. Blame the others not themselfs!
Again this is only a observation from a gringo that is married to a Tica!We can go deeper into the artical but I don’t think this is the time to do this since I am behind on my house cleaning chores. See my wife dosent treat me like a god, just as a equal hahahahaha.
I do wish Margie well in her indevers in finding a match and do apprciate her point of view with the artical. How ever I belive it is a tuneled view and maybe she has issues that are not the problem of the Ticos or Ticas.
Feel free to ask any questions regarding being married to a Tica!
scottbensonMemberI found out you have to drop the E at the end of that string
scottbensonMemberAnd just think with all of the money that you would save you could travel all up and down South America! Costa Rica is centraly located and you could see the world!
These are the reason’s why many people are looking to retire in CR (I don’t think I have to tell you that) prices of heath and home insurance, home and personal taxes, cost of living and with many compnays (ex Delta Airlines, Ford, GM) cutting back on pensions you either have to take a second job or starve or work until you die.
This is why I am facilitating home buyers seminars in MN! I am finding many people that are in a dire situation for retirment. Since the largest amount of Baby boomers have not retired yet it is only going to get a lot worse in the next 10 years.
scottbensonMemberBoy! how many realtors do we have on the blog? I am a Realtor in Minneapolis area as well. Here the market just corrected it self now it is like how it was in the 1990’s. I started in 1993 when it would normaly take a month to sell a home. Then during the hay days it was less than 24hrs, now its back to the norm.
scottbensonMemberYou said it Net working! Net working is the key to success and if you don’t have the net works it will be very hard to make a deal with a tico.
scottbensonMemberI don’t have the site infront of me until tommorw but there is a web site for the FBI reports. You can start online and then you will have to send the information in.
I will post it tommorw.
