Well you can tell you husband the person that propagandized me was a person that lived and breathed the issue. A person that didn’t just read or see it on TV and thought up crazy ideas, a person that knew and really cared about the issue because it impacted them and their daily lives.

Some people want to put on their rose collard glasses and read their collage books and belive they know the world, the rest of us live it in real time!!!!!

Clearly you don’t know the history of El Salvador other wise you would know that the death squads were not backed by the U.S. they were backed by the history of land owners that came from Europ that were eventully backed by communissm. The U.S. was forced to come to the aid when people around the world was asking why gringos would let this happen.

Just like what is happening today! Would you like us to help Darfur??
Why wont the hollywood types go to Saudi Arabia or any Islamic organization and protest there???

How ever you can rest a sure that the U.S. will change thier postion because we are a society that lives by CNN or FOX or Survivor! We will forget or don’t understand why the real reasons 911 happend. We will bend to the pressure of the old hippy ways!!!!!

Please answer my question of what you think we should or should not do for Darfur!

To me this own corporation is just a way to skirt away from the law. Some day the Ticos will change the laws to close this loop whole. I hope that day will come soon!

By the way what do people think about the artical in todays AM paper about the gringos being sued by another gringo that hurt his back on thier boat.?

To tell you the truth no I don’t see what you mean!
I do have to say that a person that is in the middle of the issue would have a higher rate of success of knowing the situation than some person that is thousands of miles away and hearing it second hand.

Have you ever played the telephone game?

Lotus, you do belive that the person that made the comment stated above lived under the rule of Strossner. In fact i beleive they said “We lived in Paraguay for 15 years under Strossner” Do you belive that they might have more of a insight than you and I?

Would you state that their opinioun would have more weight than ours since they lived in the situation??

This is the problem that many gringos are having, living in the media and not really know what its like for the boots on the ground such as the person that lived under Strossner.

Thank you Roark, I have been serving our country for over 20 years now. I probley will be retiring this next year just because my wife and I have decided to go back to CR for my wifes family. Since my wife and I are expecting our 1st child and we thought it would be important for our gringi tica or tico to grow up with their cousins we are going to move to where her mom lives and where our home is in Tres Rios Cartago.

Wow, do you believe that movies portray real life?

If you know much about El Salvador it was a issue of property that was owned by rich land owners who were generations of Spaniards.
Then when the peasants rebelled the land owners created death squads that would kill these peasants’. The rich land owners that were governors of 14 provinces because their were 14 families were back by communisis countries.

Years later and thousands of dead people the U.S. got involved and backed the poor peasants.

Fast forward to today and after the war the U.S. pumped in hundreds of millions of dollars to rebuild El Salvador! I ask why didn’t the communist countries send money to rebuild El Salvador!
As the lady that gave the tour stated if it were not for the gringos to rebuild El Salvador it would still be in a devastated country.

A brief history of this lady, she was moved with her family to the U.S. because of the war. After the country became stable she moved back to help her country rebuild.

Regarding some of the sources that you stated I would have to ask what kind of authors are these people. Do they have a motive behind their views.

Again I only believe what I see, I would suggest you take a vacation to El Salvador this summer and find out for yourself!

So if we learn somthing from this history do you belive that we should ever get envolved in humanitarian issues like Darfar? Somalia? or any other country that is in need of justice?

What would have happend if during WWII the U.S. would not have gotten envolved? Didn’t the U.S. get blamed for not becoming pro active when Uk and other countries were getting bombed??????

How ever remember this posting is about a young man that is living in Nicaragua! He is living in a country that is highly nationalist and would not give him the time of day or a fair trial.
Do you belive that he needs to take some responsibilty for living in a volital country and not expect the U.S. to come and bail him out??

Wow, lotus, sounds like some one has been brain washed by the libs.

Lets talk abut El Salvador for a example. Since I was just in El Salvador and took a tour with a El Salvadorian tour guide that explained the whole war in about a hour and a half to me, I have a perspective of a El Salvadorian.

What do you think El Salvador would be like if the U.S. did not suceed in the intervention?

Do you think that today El Salvador would be where it is if it were not for the U.S.?

Another example that is brewing in todays history is Darfhar? What would happen if the U.S. interveend in that mess? Why are all the actors in hollywood asking for U.S. intervention and not pounding on the doors of Islamist and demanding their intervention?

You say that our weapons of mass destruction have killed over 600,000 of gods children in a country called Iraq! (you do have the wrong numbers) How many do you belive that the Islamists have killed in Darfhar? just because they are too black and not Islamic enough! I can tell you it is a lot more than 600,000. What about the Islamist themselfs how many have they killed of their own people in Iraq! It is far more than what the U.S. has done.

Why is the U.S. always to be blamed if they do or don’t help other countries in their time of need? I belive it is because many gringos are too spoiled and have nothing more too do than complain about their goverment. They would rather close their eyes than see what the rest of the world is really like.

The differnce between us is our experiances, I personally learn more by what I see and hear in real life than what I read or hear by a news media. Because of the Military I have been to many countries that you can only read about! I have seen with my own eyes why the people ask for U.S. intervention when death is around each corner.

Well to tell you the truth Panama wants the gringos back! I used to know Panama city like the back of my hand prior to 2000. I used to travel to Panama twice a year for the military.

Yes we did help out Panama in thousands of ways and they did feel a lose of money as well as other issues that was created by China. To this day the Panama goverment is asking for the U.S to come back.

As for the other countries I have been to Argentina on humanitarian missions for floods. Indonesia, the U.S. was the largest supporter with airlift power during the last issue.

The problem is where you are getting your information! You read what a small amount of what really happens in those countries.

I bet you are even thinking that what happend in El Salvidor that the U.S. was at fault!

Do you really think that is the problem? What about all of the humanitarian that we have given to Nicaragua in the past years. There are a lot of things that do go on behind the scenes and you will never know but most of it is not some kind of waco black stuff that you might think of.

Many people think that the U.S. is the bad country out to destroy all of the little ones. This is not true many countries in Central and South America are hurting if they don’t recive the benifits of working with the U.S.

The topic is of a expat that got himself in trouble! He was not aware of his surroundings and got himself caught.

This anti gringo issue has been around for hundreds of years this just didn’t pop up in the last eight years.

It sounds like many people have their heads in the clouds!!

As reading some of these posts I see that many people encourage the way of the Illegal purpetural tourist. I am also sure that many people are practising what they preach.

I would say go ahead take the 50,000 dollars come and do what ever you like! How ever when the winds change and if you are not allowed back into the country because of the amount of stamps in your passport. Remember you were warned!!!!!

I will not have any feelings for the people that are breaking the laws of Costa Rica! Purpetural Tourism is that breaking the law! To me this is taking advantage of they system and if you are not let back in I would say Pura Vida!!!!

Diablo, I do understand you comment about Jewish people during the WWI and WWII,

How ever that was a different time and a different place! Nicaragua is changing, it is has and always will be a volitial country because of the people themselfs.

My wife a Tica and I were talking about this story, she commented on that Nicas have a very nationalist view point and will not except gringos like Costa Rica does. Nicas are not passive like Costa Rica and will find blame for all economic woes on everyone but themselfs.

With the change of polotics and the alignment with other leaders Nicas will not welcome the young gringo in the story that is at topic. They will not welcome the U.S. intervention of what they think is their view of a fair judical system.

In turn when a U.S. citizen is living in Nicaragua they must see the writing on the wall a be aware of their surroundings. Don’t except the U.S. to bail them out if they are in trouble in their dream of parraidise. Just like the U.S. citizens in Lebanon should have left along time before the conflict happened last year!!!!

This is truely a sad story, how ever I belive that as expats we take risks. One risk is that Nicaragura is a very unstable country and the judisal system is very different than what eric is used to in the states.

Knowing this Eric must understand that living in Nicaragua he was a target and the U.S. can’t bail him out and should not because he took the risk of living in a unstable invironment.

hmmm is it afact of life? Do you think there is a way that CR could curve development such as changing laws?

Maybe if CR would cut the amount of land that could be sold to foreigners this might be able to curb developments?

I am glad to hear that you enjoy CR,
Why not try this in reverse! Come to CR for a couple of months a year make sure this is the country that you want to retire. Then after five years you can apply for pensionista status and come to live for good.

That way you are not a purpetural tourist and you will be safe from losing what you have invested in CR.

My wife was talking to her cousin last week and her cousin works for the department of immegration of CR. Her cousin was stating that the crack down on perpetural tourism is going to become a realtiy more and more as the funding issues are fixed.

I also have to say that last August she said the same and if you look at the news last December there was a few more gringos that were not let into the country due to over staying their tourist visas!

Wow, I this is truely a issue that has not been covered enough in this web site!!! (not !)

You really need to do some research because you can’t come to Cost Rica thinking you can find employment!!!!! There are only two ways to get employment under a residency! One being married to a Tico and the Second is to have a employer state that you are the only one that can qualify for the job and no tico can fill this. That is very hard to find a employer that will state that since a large amount of unemployed workers have masters degrees!

I don’t know what you are looking for in Costa Rica but if you think that the tico male population is as subserviant as the North American men you will find this to be not the case. Ticos are very macho.. ask my Tico brother in laws or my mother in law.

Again many people, fall in love with what they belive is paradise and Costa Rica can look that way. How ever remember you came down on vacation and even Florida can look like paradice!
