jajaja.. I think reality is setting in!
I do kind of take offence of the comment of San jose though. My wife grew up there and I knew san jose before I knew the rest of CR. People are friendly there and I have walked my mothers dogs all over San Jose with out any problems. You can get robbed any where in CR even in the country so don’t think this is just a problem in San Jose.
scottbensonMemberI beg to differ Jenny, with the huge influx of pensionados coming I do belive they will and are cracking down.
The main difference is that the pensionados are coming with thier money in hand and the perpetual tourist are coming to make money illegally. Most Ticos are not welcomed to the idea of compition for jobs.
scottbensonMemberThe problem is that there is no rules for agents to follow. It is truely the wild wild west in CR. Most agents have never sold a piece of property until they came to CR and they don’t belonge to the Board of Realtors where they must follow ethics.
scottbensonMemberI don’t know for sure but I would belive a perpetual tourist is a tourist that spends more time in costa rica than out side of it.
scottbensonMemberYou should have asked the agent to see his pass port, I bet he was a purpetural tourist!
scottbensonMemberChariotdriver,
This kind of crime is possible in most of these countries down here. I just came back from Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama and they all have problems with missing airplanes because of drug runners. How ever in CR there are many great airports that are secure.
I have personally rented a 182 and flew to some locations around the country, how ever it is very expensive because of the insurance issue. Here they also fly a lot of VFR in IMC condidtions, crazy!
scottbensonMemberhow ever you need to be aware of the pit falls of becoming a purpetural tourist! The president is very serious on cracking down on this issue and people have lost all of their investments by playing the purpetural tourist game!
scottbensonMemberWell chariotdriver I am glad that you have fallen in love with cr, please do a search on the residency reqirments since they have changed a lot from last year. I belive that in your situation you would have to have about 160,000 put into a account to draw from.
If I was you I would call the CR embassy in Washington and they could help you more on the requirments
scottbensonMemberwow plastic how much cheaper do you want? I don’t know if you know how well educated these ticos are down here! How ever for the type of customer support applicants you will be having people with collage degrees applying!
scottbensonMemberDave, I am sure you love CR like many of us. How ever you might want to search this site, you will find many postings regarding living and working in CR.
Unfortunalty or fortunalty which ever way you look at it CR protects the job industry and you can’t work as a employee unless you fall under a very certain situations.( you can look at the Embassy web site).
They have changed the rules and for residency and you have to put a lot more money into a bank account than you used too. How ever no matter what you can not work legally in CR under a Residencia or as a retiree. If you choose to own a biz you must also employee at least one Tico as well.
This doesn’t mean people don’t work here illegally as a tourist visa, but you are taking your chances and I belive it was two weeks ago where they deported some Americans for working while a tourist.
scottbensonMember“Want to get on well with Tico acquaintances? Be cordial, don’t ask personal questions or share intimate details of your personal life,”
I guess this dosen’t apply to Ticos because my mother in-law will tell a complete stranger what ales her! hahahaha
scottbensonMemberYes you are right the pensionado did remain the same it was the resident with family that changed. I don’t know if that was the question but the resident has raised the prices.
scottbensonMemberThere is a really cool one in Tres Rios Cartago, the wholes are located in the valleys of the mountains.
scottbensonMemberI concure with both Gringotico and Scott,
You will not find the good match at the bars. How ever you will find many great ticas in circles such as family members or churches or organizations, shopping malls, gyms and many other places.
Like Gringotico states that it is a breath of fresh air for the Ticas from the problems that plage the macho society.I was lucky by meeting mine on the internet but that is a whole different story!
scottbensonMemberWilliam gale,
I do have a question! How do you get around the laws in the United States? In Minnesota, you cannot solicit customers unless your property is registered with the State. You cannot even send them information unless it is registered. I have seen emails that other agents and people have shown me and if the commerce department had seen any of this information, they might be knocking on your door!
