May I ad: Due to a little face surgery we were stuck in SJ for a week and had SOME experience driving around in the city. I (husband) did got my master degree in driving a few weeks in Rome back in the 60’s and also in Rio where it seems to be a national sport to run down pedestrians, but I tell you, after SJ we both look like we had Parkinson Disease (still shaking) But now, back in the states it is getting better, I can even read my own handwriting again.

Also, when driving south from Cahuita to Puerto Viejo, watch it! Those potholes are so big there may be here and there a tico sitting in it. We also found out, if you show a map to a tico and even if you pinpoint your location they still do not know what the hell this map is all about. Best way is to stop at a gas station. Chances are that one of the attendants know. We just went to Cahuita, which has a very beautiful beach in the national park and can recommend very highly a B&B (Kelly’s Creek) with excellent span. food only a few feet from the entrance. The owner (tico couple) have a parrot who entertains you on the porch while having breakfast.

Washington Post front page July 23rd ” In Iraq , military
iqnored lesson of Vietnam”. A man born in this world is here only a few days. We came into this world with nothing and surely we will leave with nothing. Mankind will never learn to get along no matter how much you shovel a Holocaust down their throats. There are many Holocaust being committed even as we speak. Kosovo only ten years ago. Cambodia only 25 years ago. Who feels sorry for all these innocent people. Nobody ever hardly mentions it. What about the Indians and their Holocaust right here in America, and what about the blacks brought here to be slaves and they still have a struggle today. So if you want to continue to be blind, then stay blind. People will always step on people. You can’t separate a Holocaust from a Holocaust. Excuse me, they call it ethnic cleansing nowadays. You need to stop looking at the darkness and error of others, just live a good life yourself.

You need to get your history straight. It was England and France that declared war on Germany, get your facts, go to the library and find out, they declared war the first and second time. You seem to know a lot about nothing.

You want to talk about Holocaust, well let me tell you something.
Christ said (Let the dead bury the dead). Why do you people keep living in the past.?
    1.Turks killed two million Armenians
2.Khmer Rouge killed two million Cambodians
3.Aztecs in Mexico wiped out in the name of Christianity
4.Incas in Peru wiped out in the name of Christianity and many more in the past. Right now there are Holocaust going on in several African countries, nobody talks about that. It doesn’t matter whether you are a Jew or some other race, humans have been killing, and will continue to kill until the end of time. So don’t single out Germany. Remember, England and France declared war the first and second time. Now look folks, I am getting irritated.!! We all lost in the second World War. There is also an Archives in Koblenz about the atrocities and war crimes committed on German citizens, especially by the Red Army. While I agree that there was a bunch of retards (Nazis) who totally went out of control never the less, Germans also suffered tremendously. Just look at the Carpet Bombing on German cities that killed helpless women and children and old people. Dresden alone in one night in February 1945 estimated 160,000 incinerated. Dresden was filled with refugees trying to get away from the Red Army.. My own Mother was raped all night long by Russians, while my 8 year old sister had to look on seeing and hearing my mother screaming and crying in vain and in pain (I was only 3 1/2 years old.) There has been many Holocaust in the past and there will be many more in the future. The point is Jews are not the only ones who have been murdered but somehow it seems their Holocaust is the only one that matters.

To lotus: I learned not to respond to narrow minded people anymore. If this particular person keep insisting that all Germans are cold and not Christians etc. and if those type of idiotic comments it makes him happy so be it. Remember, depending of ones attitude one will get the response he/she deserves. There is good and bad in every race. Christ quoted “Let the wheat and the tare grow together, then at the end I’ll separate them”. We can not judge or even try to figure people’s deeds. Only God know the heart. So I refuse to try to listen to anymore nonsense.

I would not recommend to drive fast! I was renting a car in Mexico once for 3 weeks and drove from Puerto Valarte all the way to the border of Guatemala. Never mind all those speed bumps and potholes. I came once around a sharp curve and almost hit a dead donkey in the middle of the road, probably hit by a truck.

To linlsd1: San Ramon and Atenas are not far from pacific and SJ. Also, San Ramon has a nice view towards the Golfo de Nicoya and since highways are not in a god shape I prefer not to be far from carretera interamericana. Next month will be our second trip to CR this year. Christmas again with a final decision. In March we spent a few days in La Fortuna but that area is a bit to remote for us to live there. By the way we live in the Eastwood section in Wellington.

To the last 2 messages above:
To linlsd1: My wife and I live in Wellington and planing to sell after a little upgrading and repairs (those 3 hurricanes) Our next visit to CR is Aug. 15 and looking only at San Ramon and Atenas. Where in WPB do you live?
To Scott: Thanks for all the info you and others gave me. My plan is to buy a “Handyman Special” or have a shell build and finish interiors myself even if it means to sleep on a camping cot during that time. I have top of the line tools and it is my hobby to work with them every chance I have. Naturally I intend to ship them down since I can do everything from tile laying to plumbing to cabinet making. But enough of bragging. Scott, I am so glad that “you know who” is quiet for a while.

Last time we had a small rental car from tricolor – good choice. No need for a jeep where you are going. Make sure you mark every little scratch/dent on your contract before you take car out !!

I resent your comment in very strong terms!! How dare you compare Christianity with a dictatorship out of control in the 40’s. Obviously in the “19 years” you claim you lived in Germany you have not been among Germans. Yes, I am German and damn proud of it! One does not have to run every Sunday to a church to proof it. I’ve been living for the last 35 years in the states and have seen over and over again people who preach or quote the bible that do not practice their Christianity!! The recent soccer championship in Germany is proof of those peoples friendliness and warmness to everyone. Based on what I see in the US with all the crime going on and the slaughter, torture and rapes being committed by US military on innocent civilians in another country right now I am not so sure about Christianity in the US. Just two days ago I read in a European news magazine in an interview of an american soldier who is now in Canada that saw fellow GI’s playing soccer with a cut off head of an Iraqi. So, do not talk about Christianity in another country when your own country totally disregards human rights!! You own me and the rest of Germany an apology to make such an absurd comment! All Americans need to take a good look in the mirror and find out about themselves. How can you say that you love God whom you have never seen and hate your brothers whom you see daily.!! It is outright wrong what our country is doing to others and we see it happening, give our consent when we do nothing or say nothing about it. Christ also taught,(he that is without sin let him cast the first stone). Every day we murder in the name of right.
