I’m happy to stand corrected. I had thought in the past the extra 300 or so was under “fees and taxes”, not under the basic fare, but it sounds like I was not correct on that. In any case, I was mostly curious and it’s great to see the fares now comparable with those to SJO.
Thanks everyone for your input!
JohnsnoshoovtParticipantHi Scott,
I just remember that in previous years, a flight from BOS to LIR had a big added fee, around or close to $300 so that from BOS it was in the 700 range, as opposed to 300-400 to SJO, so we always went to SJO. As said, I haven’t checked in almost a year, but recent checks seem to indicate that this big “fee” or “surcharge” for flying into LIR from BOS (and I think from anywhere in the US) is no longer there, so that flights from BOS to LIR are about the same, or even a bit cheaper, than to SJO. This is definitely a change from previous years, and a very welcome one for us who commute from BOS to Guanacaste. I’m just trying to see if I’m missing something or otherwise being stupid.snoshoovtParticipantActually I’m planning on bringng all the Romex and other supplies I need on the next trip down, taking advantage of the very liberal free baggage allowance and relatively low cost tickets from BOS to SJO, the total price is only a small fraction of sending the stuff separately. Having friends bring supplies is also an excellent idea which we may do, they get a holiday and I get very affordable shipping. My partner and I recently brought down almost 300 pounds of stuff at no extra charge with no problem and no customs issues, thank you AA.
Pura vida!
JohnsnoshoovtParticipantDanschile,
Thanks so much for your very helpful reply, all of which makes perfect sense to me as I’ve done quite a bit of wiring in the US and understand the code issues. We’re tentatively working with a Swiss electrician who has lots of experience and seems to know how to “do it right”, if not “overkill”, othewise I wouldn’t even think of proceeding without being there watching every step. It does help to know we’re not locked in to conduit if Romex can be used safely including well protected and supported, and of course dry.
Thanks again,
JohnsnoshoovtParticipantThanks Scott and Arden, I’ll definitely be in touch.
