Dear Mr Mcmurray,
I am facinated by your expertise in psychotropic medications.
Myself being a layperson would these drugs have anything to do with lsd? or some mind altering drugs. The reason i ask is you are making me think of the movie full metal jacket and the expat in that movie [sorry bad with names] who lived in the jungle in vietnam and was kind of like a psychodellic leader of these people in his own world and ways. Naaaa what am I thinking, is there any relation to excentric thinking of people who have been in this jungle like place for many years?
Only a question in geneal no specific person in mind.

PS. I’m thrilled that you’re life is do fulfilling with the big shopping malls and the cheap jeans you find in Panama.

Well I will admit you got a chuckle out of me with this comment, however I was making a point.
I dont wear the $3.00 jeans but I buy them for my devilish girlfriends as in one of your other articles the ticas are putting spouses in jail, cheaper than marrying them, but onto more important issues…
My responses to your comments:
Well if you made it through the death defying drive through san jose to oij headquarters and somebody was on duty at the computer you did get superb service I agree. Im sure the line up is coming up for the suspects anyday now. Hey, maybe the oij can get back your rocking chair and radio because somebody there is probably rocking and rolling!
Regarding your minimal robbery experiences well, if you say so. Just the senior citizen who I spoke to on a plane from cr told me he hunkered down in his kitchen in guanacaste and shot a known intruder who entered his house armed, guess its just my bad luck, or the old man in rohmerser who had a fist fight wit 3 criminals breaking into his house and then when the police arrived and caugh one of them and then in front of him let the guy go, naaa just bad luck.
My data is a nicaraguan guard who was responsible working with a co worker guard for an entire development when I witnessed the co worker guard with a large cooking pot on top of his head hitting it with a stick, naaa just bad luck.
As far as your questioning my facts, well your statistics are very questionable I dont care what the source is as so much happens behind the scenes im sure.
I agree the work force is better in costa rica than panama, much more experience in service in cr, but the other issues prevail.
Ive learned to go with my gut instincts in life and it has served me well, with that a little luck and a few good people you can make it.
Hope you bought a new chair and radio, you know they make recliners with built in stereo, never a better time to upgrade. Good luck.

Lets just show the facts. I am somebody who has lived in costa rica and panama total over a 5 year period.
1,Costa rica prices on appliances and food gas etc are double panama. Many ticos come to panama to by goods or stop at the free zone in golfito to buy a few appliances, but it is amazing the incredible cost differences between the countries.
2,Panama is a city, a real city, costa rica in comparison is a big town, There are real police in panama, yes there is a military also a navy and other organized trained groups like in a first world system but I would rather have police who are acting like police and trained than the degenerate fuerza publica lerking around costa rica, 3. I was a victim of a robbery in costa rica and the police called me a few weeks later and asked me if I knew who robbed me, while I heard laughing in the backround. Nice.
4. I could not leave my house in costa rica without hearing somebodys robbery stories in costa rica, in the airplanes too!
5. Yes san jose cr has incredible climate but the overunning of nicaraguans is out of control and so goes with it the crime.
6. I think the authorities in cr dont have the balls to control their borders. Panama throws out many illegals, this is a major safety factor! Illegals are scared in panama!
7. In overall comparison costa rica is like a bunch of villages with a mentality of being the switzerland of central america, well sorry in my opinion it doesent work like that down here.
8. The government of panama is a us dollar economy unlike the colones of cr which is like monopoly money to the rest of the world. Panama is involved in all world international business affairs on a global scale, its not just a beach town like cr even though some american companies choose the labor force in cr but I dont care about that.
9. Panama is growing like crazy, houses for the people are growing by the thousands all over with government subsidy.
10. Towers in panama city are popping up like flowers. Panama is much more international and connected with the world. Yes costa rica has a better work force quality but im not looking for a job I accept the slightly lower quality of the lower skilled common workers for the many more advantage in panama as well as much higher security. 11. Panama is the safest place in central america peroid fact. There are areas like boquette, cerro azul, and other higher altitude areas similar to costa rica sanjose climate, but you dont have to worry about your nicaraguan security guard planning your next robbery for you in panama, sure it happens all over but cr just gives me the creeps.
12. Also shopping malls in panama are bigger and they just built another giant metro mall, there are at least 5 or 6 giant malls here now and many with high end shopping like gucci stores to malls where you can buy a pair of jeans for 3 dollars, yes believe it, womens dresses for 5 dollars in the states would be 100.00.
13. Trump is popping up a new giant tower, the amador causeway has fun ocean front dining,
14. I never feel creepy or unsafe here, of course I use my street smarts like anywhere but there is no comparison in the overall scale of safety and quality of life. Dont get me wrong I think cr is a beautiful country but it is a place to visit as the tourism service quality surpases panama but if you live in cr it is a totally different story.
just my piece of mind.

Sir, If you live with that attitude of flashing gold and valuables without concern for being a victim of a serious robbery attempt, I would logically think you have a death wish.
You probably are waiting for some poor sucker to walk into your house so you can blow his brains out.
What ever floats your boat.

Well Mr Mcmurray, since you feel it is appropriate to attack me personaly, I shall then speak toward your level of intelligence or should I say what part of your ignorance is open to listen to anything.
Lets talk about some facts about marriage and put a 3rd world twist on it also.
The article I commented on was about a man who married a tica and she took him for his shirt. I expressed my opinion about marrying a 3rd world woman or a pauper*The Prince and the Pauper is an English-language novel by American author Mark Twain*. As discussed in many many articles also economic statistics the average person makes under a thousand dollars a month in costa rica, some much less. Even if she makes more, it is in the culture to deceive for personal gain, I repeat this is in the latin culture for many and they wont tell you before you find out if you are blinded by loneliness and desperation you may not see it either, I have seen and talked to several americans who have experienced this and one guy even gave the girls family his credit cards, do I have to tell you the outcome of that?. Well this man told me he lives in a tin roof hut now like his spouses do, nice ha? I didnt have to give birth to know that either.
A foreign man who is emotionally weak or searching for what he believes in his mind is a happy ever after life in a foreign culture and receives the attention of a woman he deems attractive opens up this man for a variety of experiences good and bad. I dont need to give birth to understand this!
Divorcing Couples Divorce Rate Statistics (in percent)
Couples With Children 40%
Couples Without Children 66%
* Source of this Divorce Statistics: Discover Channel
There is a precentage of marriages that work, but I personally would not take the chance, the downsides far out weigh the good sides and you just have to be more self assured, its all cultural, you didnt invent marriage sir.
I dont think I need to express myself anymore, but by the look of your photo you think everybody wants to sit in front of you and listen. I personally think you are the fool. Why dont you put on a santa clause hat and play the part you appear to be best at, a nice old out of date man.
soflodoug, in the course of your condemnation of marriage generally, you wrote, “Wow, Thank god ive never been married . . .” and we are thankful, too.

Clearly, marriage is not for everyone. You are the living proof. But because marriage is not for some hardly means that it is not for anyone, and from your vantage point of never having been in a marital relationship you are certainly not the one to be asserting universal truths in that regard.

Your arrogance is not unlike mine would be if I asserted that women overstate the pain of childbirth. Like women giving birth, I have never been there and I have never done that, and I’m in no position to comment. And you, never married, are in no position to condemn it.

You would make yourself less offensive and appear less the fool if you stuck to matters of which you have at least some knowledge.
Sir, The issue is not is your aka wife higher educated than me,it is is she higher educated than you. nuff said there, I didnt marry her you did. Sir, I can understand your pain, but if you think you are happy married to her, “wow, cannot comprehend this” then you are going to be extatic in your next life.
A little lesson for you sir, Most relationships are SocioEconomico, meaning for some sort of financial gain or or life style improvement. If you keep this in mind, you will be a lady killer, not a lady killed!
Wow, Thank god ive never been married, Please for you and the sake of this forum, please dont get married again, please!!!!!!!!

Marriage, When are you guys gonna learn? You marry a 3rd world pauper, what do you expect? They are laughing at you for being a sucker. It sounds like you have a lousy lawyer too. You need to grow some balls buddy, and remember, these women are attractive ad fun to frolic with, but nothing more, have a good time and then say hasta la vista.
Good luck.

I guess you never was married to a Gringa! I am married to one of those 3rd world paupers that you talk about and I am sure she is higher educated than you are. We have been married for ten years and I would never would never change my situation.

Under what circumstances did a husband owe his Tica wife a pension? Was the pay now amount of $1200 for $200 due a typo or typical court inflation?
I think Part III will help explain a little of this… about how I got into this mess.

The $1200.00 figure is for four months plus the December double amount including the alguinado. I actually paid the last time in February of 2010… so I have “gotten away” with not paying much more.

I am not exagerating anything in any of this… my economic situation is very very bad. I was losing a lot of weight last year. I did not have $200.00 a month myself, let alone that amount to give to Doña Violeta. It is still pretty bad… I am hoping to get some work in a call center soon, driving the cab pays really lousy and it is dangerous.

But before everyone starts throwing rocks at me about how irresponsible and stupid I am to not have a great income I want to say that I have had my reasons for doing things as I have done. I had been a graphic designer for 15 years and 2009 was the year that broke me. I wanted to continue and thought I would make it if I just hung in there, but I was wrong.

A combination of things fixed my professional wagon. Frankly, I am too old to be a graphic designer anymore, my style is out of touch with current culture and anyway, 15 years in front of a computer screen 12 hours a day is long enough.

I have made a transition to a kind of work that I never dreamed I would have the opportunity to learn. I am IN my community and I am a part of it. Working in español is a real joy and serving the community this way is very satisfying. I am proud of that. I am also proud of living “like” my costa rican neighbors. I am poorer than a lot of them actually.

After working one month driving I went to jail for two months. I have been back on the road for about a month now, but this business too is hurting… too many piratas, portadores and taxi rojos and not enough clients.

The theme behind everything in my “soap opera” is the effect that poverty has on us all. There’s a lot of people who are “falling through the cracks” and I describe a couple further on in the series… I hope to make their general situation better known by writing here.

Most people in costa rica are living on no margin at all and working 14 hours a day for rice and beans. This is making estafas and dope dealing and robbery REALLY attractive alternatives for all kinds of people. Something needs to be done or… well… more people will go to jail for being poor, the ruthless rip-off environment will get worse, and more people will have a chance to write a Soap Opera of their own.

Just dont give the guy any money in advance. Worst that can happen is you waste some time. If you are in a realestate transaction, you may be asked to give the seller money in advance, dont do it!
Stay in control of your transaction. Make sure your contract is bilingual spanish on the left side of the paper and english right.
Hope this gives you some insight.
If it is an escrow deposit situation see if he is on the us embassy approved attorney list, contact the embassy for this.
Believe me, differences pop up where you cant imagine, like for example if a contract says lamps are not included with the furniture, dont be surprised if every light outside and inside the house are taken out before closing.
Good luck

Well Mr Harve,
If you have this contradicting information can you tell me what I said is wrong?
Of course I left out a few forms to sign they have in the shop and the on call police officer who notarizes whatever is put in front of him in the gun shop, but other than that you can walk in and in a few days walk out with the weapon needing only the documents I stated, nothing else is required for you to bring.
However you can buy a gun under your name but then you have to undergo a mental health check hahaha. So again what did I leave out from your direct inquiry recently?
Thanks Soflo

Your not alone maravilla, just as I pointed out in my previous posting, many americans are in the dark,If you need to ask what did gonzalez do or bernanke for that matter you are in the dark,im not saying anything negative toward you,but I am saying unless you understand the mechanics of banking and exactly what these people did, mortgages were underwritten with fanniemae and freddie mac guidelines, they set the rules!Bernanke raised the rates which on top of the margins that increased adjustible mortgage loan rates well you dont know, there are plenty of trees for everybody and they always plant more. Not eating packaged goods and all that in reality is not gonna make a bit of difference.Gas prices are dropping today so fill up that car! Enjoy life while you can. Grab a big mac on me.

Look reality is reality and you or I cant change it. Global warming fact The earth is rotating closer to the sun,wow that makes sense! But people and politicians just try to profit from what people dont know, for god sake just watch national geographic once in a while! Cutting trees down, theres plenty of trees. Trees are the hair of the earth and they keep growing back.
I voted for bush the second time, but you know what I didnt vote for bernanke who crashed the realestate market raising rates like a mad man,I didnt vote for gonzalez who screwed up fannie mae,and now who the heck cares who you vote for, gravity will bring this declining market down even more. The insults by bush sending 300.00 checks, obama promising 1000.00 checks, what a joke. Most americans are looking at the politically correct view and that is older than dirt. Why doesent someone with a brain run for president? Whatever, the time has come for the usa to be absorbed by the rest of the world so learn spanish and german if you live in florida because they are buying there like crazy and enjoy life. Nothing you can do now, the vultures will clean up the mess.
