David,
I stand corrected, in terms of what I thought was your assessment of VA care. VA medical care and health care in gerneral, has made vets, including myself, super sensitive. Thanks for the feed-back.
soldierMemberGreetings Imxploring,
I could not agree with you more, and I respectfully disagree with David’s assessment of the care at the VA. Because of my service-connected disabilities and the costs thereto, I only use my private health insurance half of the time. I use my private health insurance for non-service connected medical issues. In my opinion, and with my experience with the government VA health system; government health care leaves much to be desired. My fellow vets that claim that the VA health care is the best in the country, must not have private health insurance, or believe the government propaganda. The difference between private health care and government health care, is like night and day. The VA has also been in the headlines lately because, VA employees were distroying vets medical records, trashing vets medical records, schredding vets medical records and hiding vets medical records in boxes and files; which were found by whistle blowers years later. If this is how our government treats vets that fought and became disabled because of comabat, how do the average americans think the government health care system will treat them! I would prefer a government voucher program, wherein I can visit any private doctor. Government health care, is truely a failed system.
soldierMemberImxploring,
Your comments concerning the VA were right on point. I am one of those Philadelphia VA patients. More often than not, I use my private health insurance to receive treatment for my service-connected disabilities. The VA healthcare system, is a national disgrace. During my six years of treatment at the Philadelphia VA hospital, I have only encountered one professional and caring doctor!
soldierMemberWe americans have to stop drinking our water! The healthcare meetings and debates are looking more like the circus has come to town. The U.S. currently already has nationalized health care in the form of medicare, medicade and the Veterans Administration health care system. As a disabled veteran, and a patient within the Veterans Administration health care system, the system leaves much to be desired. For example, long primary care appointment waits, incompetent non-US doctors at VA hospitals, out-dated medical equipment, indifferent VA hospital support staff, etc. The U.S. is the only industralized nation without universal health care for its citizens, due in large part to greed and corruption. The U.S. has exhibited distain, disregard and disrespect towards its disabled veterans, from Vietnam to the present. Can anyone with more than two brain cells, actually believe the U.S. government really cares about health care for the general U.S. public. Myself and hundreds of thousands of U.S. disabled veterans are currently waiting two to four years, or more; for the VA (government) to process our claims. Many veterans die before the VA (government) even processes their claims. Health care in American, is and always will be about profit!
soldierMemberAs an American, your experience in the UK was informative. My wife and I plan on visiting the UK in the future. The american news media seldom provides complete world news, including CNN. I am currently a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There is really no gun control law in Pennsylvania, other than you can only buy one gun a month. You also do not need a permit to own a gun. However, the insanity is that you do need a gun permit to carry a concealed weapon. We have about 3 to 4 murders a day, and almost everyone carries a gun, with nonfatal shootings dailey. As a former combat veteran in the U.S. Army, Vietnam was safer than many parts of the U.S. In four years, my wife and I will be relocating to CR, to depart from the wild, wild west mentality here in the U.S.
soldierMemberAfter having researched the VA websites, VA does pay for service-connected disabilities in Costa Rica. I am a disabled vet and a military retiree, my understanding is Tricare and VA reimbursed service-connected medical care are available in Costa Rica. For more info on VA, go to http://www.va.gov.
soldierMemberThank you for the information.
soldierMemberI could not agree with you more!
soldierMemberThanks for your reply.
soldierMemberInteresting information. In addition, we U.S. disabled veterans have to wait six months to two years for the Department of Veterans Affairs to adjudicate our service-connected disability claims. Then to add injury to insult, most claims are denied, and the appeal process can take from two to three years. There are currently about a million disability claims pending before the VA. We disabled veterans believe the VA mindset is “delay, delay, deny and hope they die.” We bail out banks with billions of dollars, millions of dollars for foreign aid and billions of dollars to fight two wars; yet the U.S. denys, nickels and dimes veterans disability compensation. I am leaving the U.S. and retiring to Costa Rica, good riddence to an ungreatful United States.
soldierMemberThanks for the information, it is greatly appreciated.

soldierMemberorcas06,
Thanks for your input. However, leaving my pet/friend in Philly, is not an option, there are three or four murders a day, here in Philly!
soldierMemberI agree with your thoughts. I have participated in various U.S. Special Forces operations in latin america, under the pretense of drug eradication. Now that I am retired, I can never set foot in any other latin american country, other than Costa Rica. Most americans could care less about latin america, and the vast amount of monies that are spent and paid to various latin american governments. U.S. Special Forces train many of the soldiers in various latin american countries, for self defense, drug eradication and even a coup here and there.
soldierMemberThank you very much for the information.
