Fellow members, please. Our soldiers are being killed and wounded in two wars. Disabled vets of these wars are denied earned disability benefits, some waiting ten years for their claims to be processed. Not to mention vets dying while waiting on their claims. Homeless vets are living in the streets of all our cities. The corporations, the government and our politicians have sold-out and enslaved the American people; and some of us are worried about George Carlin’s harsh language! Lets train our youth to be critical thinkers and open minded, to the realities of the world we currently live in.
soldierMemberI would concur with David, I am in a similiar situation. I purchased a home that closed in November 2009, I make payments every six months to the sellers corporate trust. Our CR attorney handled everything at the closing, the transaction went smoother than my property purchasing transactions here in the u.s. I would question the knowledge and legal skills of the attorney(s) that you have consulted.
soldierMemberKordan,
Thanks for the George Carlin clip. George Carlin was not only a comedian, but also a philosopher. He sought to enlighten anyone with more than two active brain cells.
soldierMemberclayton,
I am also one of those “Progressives.” If America is looking for me, I will not be hard to find. I come from a military family, stretching back to the Civil War. I myself, have served in Vietnam, the Gulf War, and Iraq. Not to mention (hush) classified missions in Central and South America. What is your military or covert intelligence experience. Freedom is not free. Many of us have served to insure that you and other americans can enjoy their freedoms. I am saddened that I and hundreds of thousands of other military members have to witness our country being destroyed by the current two party system, and, other citizens who sit on the sidelines and help add negative aspects to the destruction of our country. Do America a favor, grab a M4 and spend a year in Iraq.soldierMemberSue,
I’m not sure what form is being referred to in regard to the transfer of monies. However, in October of 2009, I wire transferred $150,000 to our attorney in CR, for our home closing in November 2009. The monies were wire transferred to Bank of America in Florida, the fee was $25.00, then BOA transferred the funds to our attorney in CR. Three days later, our attorney notified us of receipt of the funds. In our case, no additional form(s) were required. I wire large sums to CR every six months, without any forms. The only form(s) I am aware of is a Department of Treasury form, if you have over $10,000 in a CR bank.
soldierMemberDavid,
Understood and agree, I usually do not spend more than a short period of time in San Jose. If the air does not kill you, the drivers will. It is no different in any city in the world. In terms of clean air, nature’s air purifier is the ocean and plants; that is why I purchased a home in Guancaste. In terms of food, fresh fruits, and seafood from unpolluted waters.soldierMemberI have asked this same question of friends and coworkers. The responses I have received are, fear of the beautiful tica ladies, fear of the unknown, fear of leaving the familiar, family constraints and the lack of knowledge of Costa Rica. In terms of trash on the streets, my current working residence of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; has me wiping my eyes every time there is a wind, because of the trash and dirt in the air. Overall, CR is much cleaner than Philadelphia and many other U.S. cities I have resided and worked in. I will not mention the cleaner air, healthier food and friendy tico/ticas in Costa Rica!
soldierMemberTo add another viewpoint, as retirees/semi-retired, we have all acquired professional skills and education. The utilization of those skills and education in the enhancement of the quality of life; for both expats and fellow retirees. For example, I utilize my legal skills to assist fellow disabled veterans, on a pro bono basis; in navigating the complex and anti-veteran VA disabilty claims process. Activities that expand the mind and body, would be very beneficial.
soldierMemberJohn and David,
Thanks for your responses.
soldierMemberGreat information. I am seeking to replace my current home appliances. Can anyone suggest a location to purchase new stainless steel appliances, stove, refrig., microwave; at a reasonable price. Our home is in Playa Hermosa, Guancaste. I have heard about the Galfito duty free location. I have also heard that prices are high in Liberia and San Jose for these items.
soldierMemberThanks everyone, your responses are greatly appreciated.
soldierMemberjdocop,
Having read your segment about the airports in CR, in particular, Liberia airport. Could you expand on your assessment of the Liberia airport, and its loss of revenue. If I am not mistaken, my understanding was that there is planned expansion and increased arriving international flights. Take care.soldierMemberAlso, Philadelphia to Liberia $467.00 through June 2010, on the Kayak search site.
soldierMemberDavid,
Thanks for the interesting article on Costa Rica. Like everything else in life, its a matter of perception. Having been a former hippie in the 70s, I finally found my paradise in CR.soldierMembertomtwoshoe,
Thanks for your input. I could not agree with you more, in terms of the confusing instructions, and, finding a knowledgeable tax professional/accountant. -
