    Imxploring,
Thanks for your insight. You mentioned something that I also have been trying to research, expats selling their vehicles. Is there any publication, origanization or website where expats list their vehicles for sale; or, is it word-of-mouth only?

Thanks everyone for your in-put. I bought my 2006 4runner new, got it for a steal in 2006, way below invoice price, nobody was buying the V8 4Runner here in Pennsylvania. Toyota dealers were practically giving them away, to avoid paying the taxes. Wanted the V8 to tow a boat I was considering purchasing in CR (before I realized the high import taxes.)

    costaricafinca,
We were also at a Do-It-Center in October, like yourself, having lunch and killing time (to open a bank account.) I looked at one while we were there (not expecting them to have any), I do not remember the price; the price you mentioned does seem right, from the little I remember. I do remember thinking the price is very reasonable, much like the Home Depot and Lowes here in the States.

    David,
The general instructions are also online. At http://www.IRS.gov. You can also just do a search for ” IRS Form 5471 General Instructions,” I found this quicker, than the IRS website.

    Greetings fellow members,

After extensive research and hair pulling, I was able to obtain the following information from the IRS website. I am not an attorney, and this does not constitute legal advice. However, I am a legal assistant. Instructions for preparing form 5471. Dormant Foreign Corporations. Rev Proc. 92-70, 1992-2 C.B. 435, provides a summary filing procedure for filing Form 5471 for dormant foreign corporation. This summary filing procedure will satisfy the reporting requirements of sections 6038 and 6046. “The top margin of the summary return must be labeled “Filed Pursuant to Rev. Proc. 92-70 for Dormant Foreign Corporation.” Include filer information such as name and address, Items A through C, and tax year. Include corporate information such as dormant corporations annual accounting period(below the title of the form) and 1d. For more information, see Rev. Proc. 92-70. I hope this helps my fellow U.S. citizens.

I agree with the members who indicated caution with information shared on-line. I am currently employed by The Department of Justice, and, I can assure you, there are U.S. federal agencies monitoring web sites frequented by expats internationally. As a new CR homeowner, and Ltda. manager; I am attempting to ensure that I report and conform to all U.S. IRS, and Department of Treasury (If you have $10,000 or more in a foreign bank account,) laws and regulations. Remember, fellow U.S. citizens, the U.S. government was able to break the Swiss banking vail! Costa Rica is more than happy to assist the U.S.; as long as the U.S. provides foreign aid and DEA, CIA assistance.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the feed-back. I will consider the in-ground and possibly solar heating. Obtaining solar energy for my new home, is also on my “to research list.”

Thanks to everyone for their replys. Why does it surprise me that the United States Internal Revenue Service, could not answer my inquiries! The instructions for IRS Form 5471, are also very confusing. I am a legal assistant currently working for a federal agency, and, I am still scratching my head after reading the instructions.

    ticopaz,

Thanks, I was wondering, my current U.S. 4Runner and the Hilux almost looked alike, and, they seemed the same size. The Hilux cab/truck will meet my needs. Take care.

    caliskatari,

Can you provide any pros or cons regarding the Toyota Hilux. I currently have a 2007 Toyota 4Runner here in the U.S., which I will sell prior to our relocation to CR. I am considering purchasing the Toyota Hilux or the Toyota Fortuner(my understanding is that this vehicle is the CR version of the 4Runner.) Any information you could provide, would be greatly appreciated.

The bottom line is that the insurance companies are trying to capitalize on certain levels of profit. Their profit levels may be hard to maintain, with the current healthcare debate in the U.S. As a disabled U.S. veteran, I and my fellow disabled vets are fortunate, the Veterans Health Care Administration takes care of all our service-connected disabilities in Costa Rica; cost free.
