I’ve been snowbirding since 2008, spending May through October in Chicago and November through April in Perez Zeledon. My retirement plan worked well at first, but now with rising costs at both ends, I find that I need to bolster my income. I’d like to rent out my Costa Rica house for the time that I am away. What is the likelihood that I can do this? Certainly, the rainy season is not the time that people want to visit the land of Pura Vida and I don’t want to rent to tourists for two or three weeks at a time. Does anyone here have any experience or insight with this type of situation?
I have had good luck renting my house with an ad on this website. mike peace
speedo5Member

my neighbors are selling their house just outside san ramon. the house has 3/2, large terrace, big kitchen, laundry room. you can see it on Viviun — listing is in los angeles
What part of my original question does this address?
I believe Maravilla was refering to the first part of your post. There are a lot of very helpful people on this forum and you should take full advantage of it.
My neighbors in San Ramon are also selling a beautiful home with 180 degree views of the gulf of Nicoya. Good luck to you. 😆speedo5Member
false bottom drawers are great. when my house got burglarized, they didn’t find all the money and credit cards my tenant had stashed there. and it’s best not to have all the valuables in one place.
Very good suggestions. I had planned on bolting it to a concrete wall in a fairly inaccesabile place but your points are well taken. thanks
speedo5Member
I truly don’t believe I will be able to afford to purchase a home in CR. Are there any rental properties? Whould they be around the expat communities? Are there any problems to renting in costa rica? I live in CA now but want out by early next year. I appreciate this site and all the wonderful info but there is not alot about renting in CR. Please enlighten me.
As far as i know, the rental policies in C.R. are similiar to the states. If you have the money to pay , there are many properties to rent. The expat communities will be more expensive than the tico’s. Just depends on what you want.

Messianic Judaism’s belief in the role and divinity of Jesus is seen by Christian denominations and Jewish movements as being the defining distinction between Christianity and Judaism.
it’s people, maybe who have held dear to certain beliefs, grown up some looked saw and realized that their specific feelings and beliefs paralelled in other or certain different things.Sorry, i read this 6 times and i still don’t know what it the heck you are talking about. If it works for you, it certainly is fine with me.
speedo5Member
My wife and I are considering purchasing land at Grand View Estates http://www.gvecr.com/ to building a house for rent and for ultimately as a retirement home (7 years) can anyone provide any insight regarding the development and that area of CR
I admit to knowing nothing about this development, but my skeptic alarm bell went off when they talk about the “Limon International Airport”. Hmmm.speedo5Member
I also agree with mike.
And i thought it was strange that Scott removed a topic i started about the relationship of CR with China. It made me wonder if someone stood to lose something. Its his site so i didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes.
One question to ponder for all the people who hate the US and its military…. If and when the day comes (and i pray that it does not) CR was invaded, would they let the US protect ?
, I’m pretty sure we have all these little countries interest at heart with our 700+ military bases scattered around the world. Who do you think we are protecting now? They used to protect us from the Russians, Chinese, and now those Moslems who all want to kill us.When i was a young draftee, I was stopping those dirty commies in the rice fields, Now we are building Walmarts all over China. The ruling class must keep the peasants in fear so we will pay our taxes to finance the Military Industrial Complex. We have a long history of supporting corrupt governments in Latin America because it was good for busines. Like it or not, we are the “Ugly Americans”. A lot of countries have valid reasons to hate us and our military.
speedo5MemberI have been angry at my country since i was drafted in 1968 for the “Vietnam Debacle”.There is something very disturbing about a government that spends half of its tax revenue on the military. I have purchased my little piece of ground in Costa Rica, so when the right wingers tell me to “love it or leave it”, I can do so. If the dollar fails, i’ll be eating beans, rice, and bananas I suppose. Doesn’t sound too bad to me.
speedo5Member
I am furnishing my home near San Ramon. Looking for a good place to buy a nice Queen pillow top mattress and box springs in the area. I was thinking i saw a post that someone got one at one of the big box stores. Advice anyone? thanks
Will also need other furniture items so please let me know where would be best.
If anyone has good used outdoor furniture, barstools, bedside tables, trundle bed, etc, please PM me and tell what you have. thanksspeedo5Member
espinoza’s across from banco nacional has good mattresses. i’ve even seen pillow tops at Gallo. there is also a store on the pista just before the palmares turnoff that sells Jiron and Selther and Posturpedia mattresses — it’s on the righthand side as you go up the hill and before you get to the palmares exit.
thank you very much. I will check those out.speedo5MemberThanks – That’s fine with me. I just commented that the fellow promoting it has the same last name,{Gale} as the infamous “William Gale” of Paragon Properties fame. Any relation? Just an observation.
speedo5Member
I am considering purchasing a Garmin handheld GPS, with topigraphical display. Can anyone provide any positives or negatives, regarding handhelds in Costa Rica? I have also read that NavSat has excellent maps, however, I am not sure how current the data is for Costa Rica.
I just downloaded the latest update for navsat 2 days ago.I haven’t used it since last spring, but my friend borrowed it in december and was very impressed.
speedo5Member
I’ve seen a bunch of folks using Garmin Nuvis. And I’ve heard good reports about the NavSat downloadable maps of Costa Rica. They come with Points of Interest.
I have a Garmin Nuvi 205 with the Navsat software and am very happy with it.
speedo5Member
san ramon wasn’t on your list but it should be. check out La Posada in San Ramon or angel valley B and B just up the hill.
Our friends Tom & Susan have a beautiful new B&B in San Ramon on a mountain with central valley and pacific views. I believe they call it Vista Val Verde. check them out, very reasonable. http://www.vistavalverde.comspeedo5MemberSprite , to clarify what i meant by “taking my chances”, that i would take the chance i would not have to kill or be killed, rather than go to prison or be a fugitive the rest of my life. It worked out for me, but not so for some of my friends. I dislike the military and the military industrial complex probably more that you do. 40 years after the fact,i am still angry at my government for what they did to us in VietNam and what they continue to do. Our house in C.R. will be finished this spring and I will be “voting with my feet” soon.
