I was in Nicoya the other day, so I stopped into the Municipalidad and 5 minutes later the local tax was paid! Same amount as last 4 years.
Good info. Last year I paid attorney a fairly nice sum to handle these transactions.srigsbyMemberWe owe property tax and corporation tax at this time. Can they both be paid in person at one of the banks? Which of the banks would that be ?
srigsbyMember
I pay $25 per transfer. It’s a drop in the bucket really.
May I ask what bank you use? We have wired funds to our lawyer a few times from the US and our bank charges $45 and the receiving end charges $50. This adds up fast. Anyone use paypal to send money?
srigsbyMemberIn regards to the news coming from the residents of Nosara I would wait until the road has been improved if not fixed!
I’ve said before and will again…if the road is ever fixed to Nosara and the beach towns nearby, they will explode with growth.
My contacts there have told me they had a great high season this year, with some houses rented to the max. I’m not there so this is 2nd hand news.srigsbyMemberBill–not giving up! My initial plan was to put the house on the rental market as I can only be there a few weeks per year. I have a few years before retirement yet. Was hoping the rental income would help offset the cost until I can enjoy it for any length of time. Long term goal is to spend 2-3 months out of the year enjoying the surf and fishing. Cheers!
srigsbyMemberMaravilla/David—-I have been a subscriber to this blog for quite awhile and have read many of your post. With that said I do value your opinions and feel they are very valid. Experience is the best teacher as they say, so I’m going to use your experience and put a hold on this project for now.
The last thing I need in my life now is a transvestite!!
Anyone want ot buy a 500m lot in Playa Guiones??srigsbyMemberI’m fine with “blunt”. This is the kind of info I need. Costa Rica has become like the beautiful cheerleader in high school that lures you into submission and then becomes nothing but trouble. 🙂 I feel in love with CR in 1996 on my first visit and have since returned/returened and am returning again. Last visit we purchased a small lot in Playa Guiones and want to put our retirement home there. The Nosara area has lots of builders who are Gringos etc. I was shown houses that were built for gringos by gringos while the investor was back in the states. I’m certian they had there share of problems as does bulding here in the US. There is a group of guys in Nosara who runs a rental/real estate business and they provide hands on inspection of your project on a daily basis. Of course this comes with a fee! It seems that they are very sucessful in managing these constrution projects for there customers. What is your opinion of this?
Thanks for your honestly! SRsrigsbyMemberOK, with that said what is a person to do if they want to build there and are living in the states? Seems to me it will be very difficult if you have no way of handling the monies between the investor and builder. There has to be another way…would a lawyer hold your money in an escrow account and distribute as needed to the builder?
srigsbyMemberBill, did your renters personally open the accounts or did they have a lawyer do so for them. I was told it is worth paying the lawyer to handle this because it is daunting.
Also, our property is in a S.A. Corp. Was told to open the account in the corp name because the expenses could help in getting residency later on. Our builder is from the US and appears to have a very good reputation. Thanks for everyones advise.Very good advice in previous post!
Having said that, to answer your question, no, you need not be a resident in CR to open a bank account, checking or savings. It is not as easy as doing it in the States, but it can be done.
And opening a personal account is much easier than opening an account for a corporation. In the last 2 weeks we have had renters in our guest house each week, and both couples purchased property here and both opened accounts before they left CR.
srigsbyMember
I had heard the same thing from various CR attorneys. However, while all these legal procedures are taking place, you may not be able to access your verification of power of attorney. If you are conducting business here, without these documents your business could be abruptly halted. No sea necios, pague sus impuestos y disfrute sus vidas en Ticiolanida…
Have there been any recent developments regarding the Corporate tax? I own one active S.A. and one inactive and still havn’t paid these fee’s. We are currently living in TN and to pay these charges I must go through an attorney, which adds up fast. Just looking for some good advise from you expats. Thanks in advance!
