David: Can you advise on Dr. Flikier’s charges for a routine eye exam? Is this for glasses/contacts or both?

    Thanks!

    Hey Rocknrob:

I think that investment in that area is really going to take off. Not only does the new Caldera Highway take time off the trip to the Pacific, but the highway between Quepos and Dominical is very nearly done. That stretch of coastline is just insanely beautiful and easy access will make it even more desirable. Medical care would continue to be a concern for me.

That was a terrific post and thanks so much for sharing your travails AND successes. This forum has been our guidebook for nearly everything we have accomplished in preparation for our move this year. I found the site about four years ago and have carefully read the posts AND followed the advice.

As a result, we have an excellent real estate attorney, a great piece of land (because I paid attention to the necessary “contingencies”) and a good immigration attorney.

I am very intrigued by your experience with your “adopted” Costa Rican family and find it great that you are a real part of your neighborhood. I HOPE I can develop a good well of patience and just accept and adapt to the new cultural requirements.

    THX!

Then what?! Why, I’ll throw myself down and have a terrific FIT with heel banging and everything! Then I’ll get over it. I just want some “bridge” items until I find substitutes or other things to distract my teeny brain…..

Otay…….just how much in the way of packaged “foodstuffs” can be reasonably brought in our shipping container? (And no, I don’t mean enough to stock the shelves of the local pulperia (sp?)) I would like to bring some favorite teas/spices etc., to get us started. I know that this is generally done with checked luggage, but does anyone have any experience with including this in a shipping container? Thx! Sue

I am really, really mystified as to why someone would pick Limon as a place to settle in Costa Rica. The vibe there is not good and just so much different than literally EVERYWHERE else we have been in Costa Rica. I can think of at least ten other widely diverse areas in Costa Rica to choose…..have you actually BEEN to Limon???

    Hi Dale!

We are also moving from Arizona to Costa Rica (this July). We have been using Arden Brink’s company and are absolutely satisfied with her work on our behalf! Good luck! Sue

Does anyone know how long it should take to aquire a resident card once all the documents have been submitted.
#1 – Are you sure that your attorney has submittrd the documents? Our first abogado dropped us like a rock and didn’t bother to tell us of the fact. If I hadn’t been doing follow-up 3 months later I wouldn’t have found out that the documents he was supposed to submit to Migracion never were.
#2 – I have talked to others who have been trying to get their residency for up to 6 years without success.
#3 – Being married to a Tica does not pull any weight apparently. A friend of ours, a Canadian married to a Tica for 14 years, has made several attempts and has had no success for the past 11 years and has given up trying.
#4 – Migracion now has an Office de Controloria, basically an ombudsmans office, in their facility. Go there and they will look into your file for you and let you know where you stand.
Would you mind naming that irresponsible attorney? Thx!

David: Ain’t THAT the truth! But I would prefer someone ELSE to the the canary in the cage! I still have five months before I stuff all our belongings into the container.

But I am wondering how this decree might effect the work that must be currently performed by an immigration attorney? If the process were much easier…….? Sue

    Scott:

Here are a couple of other questions which you might be able to answer: Is the signing of this decree (regardless of content) imminent? Do these presidential decrees become established laws upon signing, or is further action/ratification required by the legislature?

    Thanks.
