I have a CR-company, wrote a book, painted the walls of my house in 3 different colours, won the karaoke-contest in the local cantina and just burned a CD……
Would like to know if I can qualify for artis ?
sumaSalMemberThey take the chance because others encourage ´m to do the same as they do:
“you pay that guy $ 100, he takes care of the stamps, why go 3 days to Panama ?”.
And maybe like somebody else wrote here: you’ll get tired to go out 3 days every 90 days……
sumaSalMemberQuote “Where are all the RE agents here. How come they are not screaming bloody murder!”.
Probably they are looking for a new market in another country, many “realtors” are here working without any legal visa.
They are leaving “the sinking ship……” (just a guess)
sumaSalMember“……before developed nation wages can be paid……” = another important issue. Now you can pay the $ 1,- an hour for the maid, the gardener etc. But will you be able to pay a full-time maid 10-15 years from now when you really need 24/7 help ? Probably not.
Option is: go to an old people’s home, home for the elderly. How many with a reasonable good quality (and cheap for the “poor-pensionados”) can you find here in Costa Rica ?
Ageing of the population is a problem for every nation. Let’s hope Costa Rica will not become the Poor-Pensionados-Paradise.
sumaSalMemberReconsider ??? The way we talk here on this forum is in fact micro-economical (about your and my situation).
If we think long-term-macro-economical (and sociological) we have to realize that, with the current possibilities to get a visa, tens of thousands pensionados can come to Costa Rica. Tens of thousands is a lot on this small population.
How much is $ 600 ? How much is $ 1,200 ? Enough at this moment (± 660,000 col) to survive. But on the long term ? With an official inflation of 10% -unofficialy much more- in let’s say 7-8 years those $ 600 (or $ 1,200) will not be very much anymore.
What is Costa Rica going to do if so many (excuse the word) “poor-pensionados” come to live here ? If the pensions don’t go up with 10% a year, the pensionados will become realy poor…..
By the way: you are (heartily) welcome to enjoy the sun, the country etc., I do the same 😉
sumaSalMemberAnother positiv effect of this law is that everybody has to contribute to the CCSS (caja).
Still there are no exact figures about how many pensionados/rentistas are affected/involved in this new law.
Neither does it say exactly what happens with renewals.
What do “older” people contribute to an economy other than spending their money ? What do they produce ? What is the effect on the health-system ? I think they just enjoy the sun in their gated communities.
And maybe this government thinks that there are enough pensionados….. It is more than just a question about you and me and our friends being in this country.
sumaSalMemberWrong question “Who could calculate that damage”. You talk about “damage” but certainly economists and sociologists can say more about the POSITIV effects.
A letter from a few realtors does not impress a government.
Very good law to keep “poor” pensionados out of the country. No more abuse of maids, gardeners, cooks etc. for just 1 buck an hour. That is one of the positive effects !
sumaSalMemberQuote: “…..el impacto en la economía y la sociedad costarricense seria terrible …..”
How terrible ? Figures please ?
Probably bad times are coming up for realtors 😉
sumaSalMemberMetal detectors on airports don’t detect gold. Gold in a container will disappear, don’t put gold in a container. Take gold with a value of $ 9,950 on a trip…..
sumaSalMemberQuote: “All plans go up in the air with such uncertainty”.
Yes, so the question is not “how long until….” but “can I make it yes or no under the new law”.
If the answer is “no” you know what to do……
About the dollar going down next year: no uncertainty about that !
sumaSalMemberBetter buy an electronic piano (Roland, Korg, Yamaha, Casio, TECHNICS/PANASONIC), sounds great and no problems with tuning in this warm and humid climat. Don’t forget that you have to tune every 6 months (at least).
sumaSalMemberGreat idea to make these changes so “poor” gringos (and others) stay out of this country. Can you imagine many thousands more coming here spending as less as possible ? “Older” people who use (and abuse) the cheap medical system ?
Renewals ? Many will have to leave the country and sell their homes. BUYERS-market will soon be here !
Inside information from the Arias-Administration: this time they are serious !
sumaSalMemberIf you are a multi-millionaire it is easy to live here, with good food, a nice house, a maid for $1 an hour, a shining car and a computer to write comments on this site on a sunday morning….. Inflation does not affect you, neihter does the kilo-price of rice (and beans)….. The reality for the greater part of Costa Rica -the silent majority- is totally different.
sumaSalMemberStill off topic (excuse me).
“Would that be a good example?”
I dont know…..
“Converse Accident or hasty generalization is the fallacy of drawing a general conclusion based on one or several atypical instances.”
sumaSalMemberWe are helping a neighbour to sell his condo. This is what a very interested buyer wrote a few days ago:
“Realmente estoy muy interesada en el apartamento, pero actualmente tengo muchos problemas por el aumento tan exagerado que han tenido los bancos actualmente. Porque en menos de un mes estaban al 8.5% y actualmente subieron al 12% y donde la mayoría serraron los créditos, quisiera saber si este apartamento esta libre o tiene alguna hipoteca sobre ella, y como es la forma de pago que ofrecen.”
Not only difficult in the States to get a mortgage……
