    Dear Mary:
Thank God we don’t need to lie to people to make “a few more bucks” as you said. Right know we don’t sell retail, we are working only with developers, so I can sell some pieces to anybody.
About Sarchi stuff if you like it and want to buy from it,be my guest. I was just trying to give her an advice to look first, know what you need to buy and don’t get ripped off like a lot of americans that I know.
And I ask you in an email how do you know about my marketing background because I thought I met you in a furniture store in Liberia.

    Dear Scott:
I’m sorry if you saw my comment it that way. I mentioned that I work for a firm because that way she will be sure I know what I’m talking about. I’m concerned about people recommending Sarchi furniture for Guanacaste because I know for a fact is not good quality for a long term and for that weather conditions. I usually give furniture advice to a lot of people for free, because my partner and I have been seeing so many disappointed families that spend a lot of money in their house furniture and it look good for a couple of months and then everything started to open, discolor, etc.
My boyfriend is American and one of the things that I being helping him with since he moved here was to avoid what he calls “the blue eye price” I thought also that was a very important thing for her to know. If you misinterpret my comment I apologize about it.

Thank God our business is going well, one of the reasons is because we are committed to be honest and transparent to our clients and they see that in us. I thought that I didn’t need to lie about what I do. I thought that if you are looking for advice you will like to heard from somebody with the experience to really help you.

    Dear jwmoore:
I work for an Interior Design firm – NAME DELETED – . If you need anything we will be very glad to help you.
If you want to go to Sarchi I recommend you to check:
    1. What type of wood are they using?
    2. If the piece is glue or screw?
    3. What kind of fabrics are they using?
    4. If they know the difference between the furniture for a beach condo instead a city condo?
    5. And the most important question… If they have a WARRANTY for that furniture and fabrics they are using? How it works?

A lot of companies and people offers furniture but there are only a few that really knows what they are doing.
Look closely and check every detail. Ask for a “factura timbrada” or a bill with the company info. Try to go with a costarican to negotiate prices to avoid “the blue eyes price”. And don’t forget to ask about delivery an installation fees from the beginning.
    Good Luck!

    Dear Carol:
If you are interested in decorating your house I will recomend you to check vey well what are you buying. There is a lot of people offering furniture Sarchi style that is true sometimes it looks good and is cheap but let me know how much it last, and the same thing happened with the fabrics and draperys.
I know that you are looking for good quality and durability because when they a condo here maybe you are not just thinking about coming for vacations, instead you also want to get inside a rental program.
For all that you need to know what you are buying and also be sure what is the best for your needs that why I really recomend you to contact a interior design firm or when you go to a store ask these questions:
Do you have a certificated interior designer in this company?
    Where he or she graduate?
Where he or she works before?
Do you have a portfolio of other projects that I can see?
What kind of furniture you have available?
    Which brands?
    Where they built that furniture?
What type of wood do you use?
What kind of fabrics they use?
What is the difference between the furniture that I have to buy for a beach condo instead a city condo?
And the most important question… Do you have a WARRANTY on your furniture and fabrics?

A lot of companies and people offer “interior design services” but there are only a few that really know what they are doing. If you need any more information it will be a pleasure to help you.

    Dear alachner:
There are a lot more interior design firms in Costa Rica and also bigger than Fusion or Interdiseño.
For example Mandalay, Habitat, or Tamarindo Pacific they are being working everywhere for more than 6 years. They are very expensive but also very recognize. At this moment you can go to big stores like Lifestyle, Altea, Bo Concept, La Artistica and they have there own interior design department. Even have links in their website to the projects they are working with.
Also Costa Rica is being experience a big boom in interior design in the last 10 years a there is a lot of good and certificated people around. By the way the design office for Marriott Los Sueños is run by Mandalay and also they are just delivering and installing the furniture for St Regis because the interior design comes directly from the main office. Fusion is not involved in those projects.
The problem is when somebody that open a store and call them selves interior designers, that is becoming a problem for the real companies. An there is a lot of people offering furniture Sarchi style that is true sometimes it looks good and is cheap but let me know how much it last, and the same thing happened with fabrics and drapery. People are looking you good quality and durability when they a condo here, because they are not just thinking about coming for vacations, but also as an investment that can be inside a rental program. For all that you need to know what you are buying and also be sure what is the best for your needs.
I recommend Carolyn to look for a firm and ask these questions:
Do you have a certificated interior designer in this company?
    Where he or she graduate?
Where he or she works before?
Do you have a portfolio of other projects that I can see?
What kind of furniture you have available?

Right now you can find several companies offering “interior design services” but there are only a few that really know what they are doing. Even little stores without any interior design training are offering packages and interior design for developments. And when that kind of people make mistakes they affect the credibility for real interior designers.
I you are looking for a firm check everything I told you before buying anything. And also ask the prices for delivery and installation because what happened very often is that the stores “forget” to tell you that till the moment you have to pay or worst… when you received the furniture in your house!

    Dear Happygirl:
You can find a lot of companies that selling furniture around Guanacaste, Puntarenas y San Jose. The most reconized are in San Jose and also there you can find a big range of prices and styles available. But when you want to decorate your house the best choice is finding an interior design company that can offer everything you need in one place.
When you locate a firm that you like there are important questions to ask:
1.How is the certificated interior designer?
    2.Where he or she graduate?
3.Where he or she works before?
4.Do you a portfolio of other projects that I can see?
5.What kind of furniture you have available?
    6.Which Brands do you have?
    7.Where they built that furniture?
8.What kind of fabrics they use?
9.What is the difference between outdoors or indoors furniture?
    10.Do you offer both?
11.What type of wood do you use?

12.And the most important question… Do you have a WARRANTY on your furniture and fabrics?

A lot of companies and people offer “interior design services” but there are only a few that really know what they are doing.
Look closely and check the way they work, the procedure they use to get your design done, step by step. The follow up you receive and the services they offer.
A good sign is transparency with the pricing and respecting your budget.

    Dear Mary:
All the stores mentioned before can sell furniture online and you can see their catalogs in those websites. I´m not sure how they will handle the deliver. Other important point is that if you want different things from different stores you have to pay delivery fees to each one and that´s very expensive because all of them are located in San Jose.
My recomendation when you want to decorate your house from the US online is finding an interior design company that can offer everything you need and you will deal with only one person, one instalation and one delivery.
When you locate a firm there are important questions to ask:
Do you have a certificated interior designer in this company?
