We have a Garmin Nuvi 750 (2, actually) with Costa Rica maps from NavSatCR.com. The Garmin was less than $200 at Sam’s Club.
You can the maps on E-bay, either software or a memory chip. Thinks it runs about $145.
The maps have been fairly good, and the point-of-interest database is very good, very extensive.
BUT (in VERY LARGE TYPE)
The software can sometimes lead you to some unusual ways of reaching where you want to go. Even though we had the “no dirt roads” option turned on, it tried to get us to take one near Turrialba, at night, in the rain.We have found that if you keep going on the main road, it will recalculate and find another path.
We’ve been pretty dependent on it and it has done a pretty good job for us.
Good Luck!
SusanCMemberWe saw some huge frozen hams at PriceSmart in Heredia yesterday.
SusanCMemberI’m not sure what David’s reasons are. but I can tell you why we decided to import rather than buy here:
1. the cars built for export to Costa Rica are not built to US safety standards.
2. there do not seem to be any laws about rolling back odometers, so you don’t know
how many miles are really on that car.
3. they do very good body work here, so you don’t know how many times that car has
been wrecked.
4. no CarFax!It was a bit expensive but at least we know what we have.
Good luck on your search.
SusanCMemberThank you. Arden did contact me and all is well.
SusanCMemberI have a cookbook “Sabor!” by Caroline Avila and Marilyn Root. It includes many line drawings so you can indentify the item. I purchased this at Los Lagos near Arenal several trips ago.
The back cover lists the publisher as Publicaciones de Las Americas SA, with an address in Grecia.

email: Russello@racsa.co.crGood luck! I have not tried most of the recipes because you can’t get these things in Colorado.
SusanCMemberTry the Flamboyant. Small, very clean, right on the beach and only a block off the main drag. Some units have kitchenettes.
