Cancertomnpdx. Terry here….Please do undersstand thak things Have drastically changed in C.R. You Can still do it on the cheap side but Now as I traveled around you see all over the place Condos from Just $595,000 and other such Huge prices. Almost all “developments are Huge in price. But I saught out Cheep housing and found for 40-80,000 there is still things available. Of course you need to dig deep…get settled in the spot that you are interested in and then go to the local bars/restraunts etc and just get accepted in to the group. I suggest you not buy drinks or other things for the locals they will feel you are up to something. Just be considerate and try to fit in ..have fun. I do so and got to meet and know and win the trust of many locals because I was sure not to be a “stupid/rich/selfish/egotistical American. I found several “cheap” houses by following this pattern. NOT that I was trying to work the system but as is in any Country people do not like Selfish Americans. We have lost acceptance everywhere in the world. Do as they do in ……
    good luck

Hi there..You know it is all about who you are and how much you require. I was In C.R. 2 in the last 2 years both for about 3 months and lived comfortably on ^400 mo. not including all the more expensive “tourist” things that you could avoid and still see as much of the country as you wish. I was all over the country and paid frm $5.00 per night and on the carribian side paid $175.00 for a month at a 1 bedroom, bath, living room and kitchen cabana. I only once paid more than $20.00 for a night and I got trapped with-out a room and paid 35.00////still not bad. I traveled by bus that is quite good and a good way to see the country. If you take direct bus rather than the “milk-run” it costs a little more but well worth the cost. Bus across the country 3-7.00. Nice, clean reasonably safe if you watch your stuff and your wallet.

Well could say a great deal more but I stayed in all safe, clean small local hotels and never had a problem.

    good luch

Hi there Kellyact…I can say that I personally went from Austin Texas to
San Jose by bus and it really was no big deal. It did take 3 days but the buses were good and the service was very good. It is a little on the “loose” side as the bus system is different connections but all in all I had no real problem and did it without incident.

Yea right David and probably for only $1,000 per month… everyone will lose with this program…The U.S. has once again duped another country in the world. Please don’t think for one second that anything good will ever come from the comsperisy (sp) offered by the U.S. Government

Hi there, I was in C.R. this past year for 3 plus months and personally saw several “bike” shops that had electric bicycles. I did not look for electric tricycles but am quite sure they could be ordered by one of these shops.
    Good luck

Actually if you read the notes above this is really not like time shares which of course have been around for years all around the world. As was pointed out this is Real Ownership where you actually OWN a piece of the pie. In time shares you mearly get a long term lease and do not own anything. If interested in this topic besure to re-read the notes above and go to the site Scott sent as it really hits the nail on the head. Please note that as I said above I was luck enough to sell my time share…a very very difficult task if even possible. And for the record I don’t like this concept either. Yes C.R. is going to be ruined by the U.S people and I am very sorry to see this happening. I really intended to stay in C.R. but in the last 2 years cost has gone up so much that I just can not do it.

Sounds a lot like a condo…same problem…my brothr just sold his condo for that exact reason…with some homeowners sueing the association and huge attorney costs along with court ordered repairs that were NOT at all necessary

Scott, I just “Lucked out” and got rid of my time share in Mexico. While this discussion is of a semi-different topic I can tell you first hand that of the owners I know who have had time shares they are harder to get rid of than “Aids”.
My concern would be very similar for these things. Yes I did read the article and do understand that this is probably a better deal because of the true ownership not a long term lease but still it will be interesting to see what resale is like.

Hi, I was in Tuurrialba this summer and stayed at a place that was clean and nice for it was either $20 or $25 per night. Now I will admit it was not a fancy place by any means but the point is that inexpensive places are available all over C.R. I do agree however, that the more up-scale places are quite pricey. I do think is the good ol Americans who have pushed the prices up at many of the hotels because they will pay the price and then it just goes up and up. However if you are willing to lower your sites I have spent 6 months traveling all over C.R. and in all cases I paid 35.oo or less per night. Clean, Safe and fairly good locations.

Sprite. thanks for the lead. The only problem is that this is only for folks who deo not have savings accounts or other banking sources. I guess many folks just get their checks in the mail and this will by pass this for those folks. For all of us who do have savings or checking accounts these S/S checks will be deposited into those accounts. Well as it goes

Hi there, Terry Cook here. I remember about a year or so ago of a builder that was building true tree houses in C.R. I will go and check my records and see if I can identify him. He had something about building for people with some kind of illness. Sorry I can not remember more but I will look.
