Tomasino, I would be glad to share…some are actually much less some more.
In San Jose I stay at a place that is ok but not in the best area (coca cola) but stayed there last year for a few weeks and had no problems…
1. in San Jose…Hotel LaPampa…..$8.00 night
2. in Puntarenas Harbor at aparthotel GRAZ $150.00 Month! right at the beach.
3. In Golfito at El Gran Ceibo Hotel set rate is $20.00 night but I have not gotten a weekly rate yet. I am sure they will do better.
4. In Cahuita Sol Y MAR looks very nice $175.00 Monthly…private cabinas at the beach…living room, bathroom, full kitchen bedroom.
5…HOWEVER I have run into a problem and could some help in Quepos or Dominical. I was booked at Thrusters in Dominical but they are closing so I need a lead
6. In La Fortuna and Hotel Dorothy as mention above nice clean but simple $6.00 night with bedroom window view of Arenal.
I have one more but misplaced it…at Lake Arenal..will edit soon
OH in addition to Dominical I still need something in La Suiza/Turrialba area but have heard that should not be too big of a problem but Need help here too.
thanks
I leave this coming Thursday YAYAAAAA!!150 wonderful days(or maybe forever)Terry From Texas

terrycookMemberHi, I don’t know about there but in Texas where termites are big deal you have to treat the foundation plus all the inside water places….ie draines etc where it will possibly be damp and thats what draws the termites. I would request a Licensed termite/pest control person do the job. If you are building from scratch it is a simple and cheap fix to treat the entire ground before stating construction. Also when into construction treat the slab behind the walls with bug “stuff” and then you should never have a problem with all the rest of those guys.
Terry From TexasterrycookMembergenincr. Thank you very much that is a great site I have not seen. I did find one place that was on the top end of my budget (I am very cheap…not frugal) I have stayed all over the country and have booked for this trip many places for a max of $14.00 night. I have never been disappointed yet. But having said that thanks for the help and I hope the one place comes through. I have a good feeling that Ciudad Volcan could be a good place to land.
Terry From TexasterrycookMemberJon, I have a short stop/change flight in Houston. I will go to San Jose for a week, then Month in Puntareanas then 3 weeks in Dominical then Month in Gulfito then to Cahuita where I rent a full cabin liv, bath, kitchen and bedroom for $175 mo. I will stay for 2 days and leave for Panama..I will go to Island of Bocas del Toro and stay at a place right over the water..looks very very nice at $36.00 night (by far the most I will pay anywhere) but am splurging for 3 days. Then back to Cahuita then to La Suiza or Turrialba for 3 weeks then to either La Fortuna or Ciudad Arenal. I think the site I went to was “Panama-Bocas del Toro trvel advise” let me know if you need more info. Great details in the whole
process of making the crossing over to Panama and back..looks neat and funTerry From Texas
terrycookMemberjafranz…Thank you for the very nice note…Texans really are a different breed.
I must agree with you that Scott has done a very special and wonderful thing for every person vaguely interested in Costa Rica.
This trip will be for 140 days and I wish to see at least more of what I did not see last year in my 3 month trip.
I am looking for a place to land permanently.
thanks

terrycookMembermannx…you don’t know where your money is being held in escrow???? Call an attorney now…I know nothing about this but you must take immediate action to protect )if you can) your risks
terry from texasterrycookMembergeminigio, thank you for this information. I now agree you should go to an officer not a manager. I had not thought of this. I really do appriciate your sharing this with all of us because it looked like a real road block but now we can see that it does not have to be. It is what they Want to do not what they Can do…your 100% correct.

Terry From TexasterrycookMemberDavid….Heck if I know? ..did not go that far. guess I should ask that question as the good ol U.S could really screw me if they change the early taking of S.S.
Terry From TexasterrycookMemberJosie….That is a very good legal question and While I have 30+ years as a Realtor here in Texas it would be impossible to know what the Rules of C.R. are. As Scott says get a good C.R. real estate attorney NOT just any plain ol attorney and you might even check with 2 to be sure if you feel unsure with the first ones answer..
Rules in CR. are Totally different. Owner carry can work and to your benifit but make sure you do everything to protect you.
Sorry I can not (and Scott would Kill me if I gave any other advice)
Terry From TexasterrycookMemberI am replacing this and directing to ava….yes you can get residency and there are tons of things on this site to guide you on this topic. Your income has nothing to do with getting rentista…that has to do with placing $60,000 on doposit and withdrawing $1,000 per month to show proof to C.R. that you are financially stable. See all the messages under search….This is per person…

terrycookMemberDavid, Javier and I have been in contact and I do have a long letter explaining the process. First he said I do not have to put the money in a C.R. bank. I can put it in a bank here in Texas. I believe this has been discussed before but once again what is needed is a letter from the bank giving a statement of “irrevocable” guarenteed funds. There in lies the problem, getting a bank to issue such a letter. I am working on that now. The bank then sends $1000.00 to a C.R. bank and one withdraws it once a month.
As for how long it must continue it is necessary until you have a ready guarenteed source of income ie…social security, retirement fund such as a teacher woul recieve etc. Of course if these folks have such a fund and are already receiving a income sufficient to qualify they could use that as their guarentee for income…ie a Trust fund that can give a letter of guarentee for at least 5 years. I also asked Javier about how long I had to leave the money in the guarentee form and he has told me that when I turn 62 and choose to take social security I can place that as my guarentee and then release my bank funds. These people need to talk to one of the attorneys mentioned on this forum…there are more than several and get the straight info. based on Their financial position. I do not believe the “income” from the yoga or any other work they may do (legally or otherwise) has anything to do with the subject of guarenteed funds..in fact I am sure it does not( the gov. does not care about current income as it can stop at any time they want guarenteed continued funds)
I am sure more will respond to this….good luck eva..p.s this is not meant to be legal advice of any form just what one local C.R. attorney has told me…
