Sorry should have posted under Paradise Profits. I’m a careful investor and worried that we don’t always get the real story. PETER

I came across an interesting posting on http://www.biodieselnow.com/forums/p/5715/38780.aspx. Investors, is history being repeated? Same email, Same man?

“Minisherman (Jack), My name is Jeff Hickcox. I am just starting what will be the first and only commercial refinery in Connecticut(Enviro Energies of New England, LLC). Our website should be up in a week or two (www.CleanBioFuel.com). Right now we are advocates for biodiesel, and nothing more. We sell shirts, hats and bumper stickers. However, we have commitments from many restaurants to remove their WVO. In addition, we have commitments from commercial fleet owners who will become immediate customers. Upon completion of our business plan we will seek investors and personell. I want everyone with a pulse to know the benefits of biodiesel and make a profit at the same time. I don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, but this is ground level and we expect to dominate New England in 2-5 years. Jeff Hickcox disser420@yahoo.com

Did anyone else notice that Jeff Hickcox’s company Paradise Profits has a Melissa working for him as the marketing director? It’s amazing how a site can promote workers who have yet to receive residency. We love Costa Rica should screen recommended persons and their articles before this site looses its integrity.

Jeff, Investing in a foreign country is not a casual experience for anyone. Your name came to my attention because of promotions for your book and your listing as a recommended “realtor” on Scott’s site. Very basic research on the internet raised questions about investment opportunities promoted on various websites promising varying returns on investment. The current economic crisis makes all investors nervous about who they rely on for investment information. This forum is an excellent way for you to share with potential investors how you are doing business in Costa Rica in an ethical, trustworthy, and legal manner that is different from the business people the public is warned to stay away from. Please feel free to educate investors on what real estate investment opportunities are not required to be registered with the Costa Rican government and how your previous investment experiences have qualified you to advise investors in these situations. People become informed “experts” through the exchange of information available to them. If I was your competitor (I am not), it would be to our mutual benefit to educate and cooperate with each other in promoting professionalism in the real estate industry. This would be of great interest to all investors. pk

Jeff, thank you for being so upfront about of immigration status. I have one last question for you, do you and your company believe in paying the 13 percent tax on commissions as required by Ley No. 6826 del 8 de noviembre de 1982 y sus reformas. Do you collect on behalf of the real estate company you work for? So many companies I have come across didn’t even know that they are required to collect and pay this tax from their customers. PK

I”ll help stop the confusion and prevent others from jumping to conclusions. My brother Randy, no relationship to Randy Berg, was signed into my account and signed it with his name. I hope that this is not against the rules. We are looking for investments in real estate in Costa Rica. We have had our answers indirectly answered about Jeff and his company. We believe it is unethical for a person to work in a country without the proper papers, therefore, we will not be using Jeff or the two companies he is associated with. How does an illegal worker pay the 13% tax on commissions? I would also like to point out that no one answered our question about Paradise Profits (First Equity Development) being registered with Sugeval. This may have been because my brother mispelled Sugeval. Jeff did mention on his website that his school investment had “the blessing of the Costa Rican government.” I look forward to hearing more comments from the people involved. Scott I enjoy your forum. However, I would hope that you only recommend legal workers in the future. PK

This information is correct, however, he does not have residency. This means he is still a tourist and should not be working the streets selling real estate. Randy

I was very shocked to learn that Jeff is a tourist in Costa Rica. I looked into his real estate page and to my surprise a customer comment was by Jeff. This is just amazing to me that a rookie with no legal right to work in CR becomes an expert in a couple of years. Has anyone else read his book. I would like to see other comments. Randy

“My name is Jeff Hickcox and I recently moved to Atenas, Costa Rica with my wife and two young sons (3&7yrs old) from Connecticut USA.

I consider myself very lucky to have found Costa Rica Land & Property to handle my transition. They were thorough, friendly, practical, and above all they handled everything with a personal touch.
The endless details involved in making such a move can be beyond stressful. However, it should be an exciting and fun process. Costa Rica Land & Property helped us enjoy our transition.
Their services were far above the call of duty for the average real estate agent. They arranged our property, met us at the airport, translated our lease at the lawyers, introduced us to local store owners, accompanied us to open a bank account and a PO Box, took us to the farmer’s market, and answered ALL of our silly questions with patience.
I was in the real estate business in the USA and I have never seen such a personal touch on these services. When they asked me to join their team I was thrilled at the opportunity to work with such caring people as Terry and Rodrigo.
If you dream of Costa Rica…Costa Rica Land & Property will make your dreams true!
