    Hi there,
I moved here 10 years ago with all my guitars. Gibson 1950 acoustic, 1958 Hollow body, Tele, 64 Jag etc… I lived at beach with no A/C for 4 years, San Jose 3 years and now in the mountains 3 years and they are all fine… With no A/C. I wouldn’t worry about it myself. Come down get a feel for the place. If you really decide to move then you bring them and they will acclimate just like you ๐Ÿ˜‰ If you must have A/C I’m sure you can find a place somewhere… but personally I think that is worse. If you go out to play somewhere there will not be A/C and the extreme climate change from A/C to nature could cause problems. Besides, the wood to make the guitars probably came from a tropical region of the world so it will be happy to be home in its’ natural habitat ๐Ÿ˜†

You will want to go to Pan Y Vino. They are a small chain and have a location in Escazu and Santana/Lindora, as well as other locations in the San Jose metro area. These 2 I mentioned would be within 5-10 minutes of you. That is most likely the restaurant suggested by Andrew in Cariari also. Atenas would be quite a trip for a pizza … but hey if it’s good! I think you will be very pleased with Pan y Vino. That is where we go for pizza and it is a very thin crust pizza.
    Enjoy!

Absolutely what Scott said! I would even say stay closer to 3 miles. It can be a real nightmare if you are too far apart. At least 2 trips a day and not to mention any other school activities.

As I understand, Country Day will have more expat/North American students along with the upper class Costa Rican families students. Lincoln will have more of the upper class Costa Rican family students with less expats. They are both good schools as far as education and students going on to Ivy League Universities etc… Correct me if I’m wrong anyone.

SWAG… HAHAHAHA… I like that Glundquist! I would say Florida is high on the list because of the ease of getting here, similar weather and the likelihood they have moved around more often… But I bet the real reason most of us are here is because we are all hyperactive! or ADD (Always Dreaming and Doing) or what ever else they have come up with to call dreamers and doers ๐Ÿ˜‰

Everything Lone said above is pretty much on target as I understand the current water war. “the process may take quite sometime” is an understatement. For the past 2 years there have been next to no new permits issued for “New” perforated wells. The national association of well drillers have been severely restricted in new water development for individual property owners, and are becoming very vocal over the lack of permit issuance by the government agencies. They support over 800 Costa Rican families and they are being squeezed . I can tell you it will be very difficult to get a permit… time consuming, costly and frustrating. That being said, when we lived in Nicoya years ago there were old spring boxes on our property which we used to build our home and for drinking and bathing. While I am not suggesting doing anything illegal… we used them as they were on our property. We did not use them commercially. Technically the law states that every “Costa Rican” has a right to water.

My grandmother used to say it is easier to get forgiveness than permission…

In my opinion… I would not want to buy a used rental car here.

I can personally recommend the veterinary offices of Adrian Molina in Escazu. He speaks English and is a great vet. I have used him for 8 years. He has kennels and should be able to accommodate your 2 dogs. 2228.1909

    Hi there,
You can indeed purchase the “new” BBQ style tanks around the San Jose valley at places like PriceMart etc… You can go directly to the main Tropigas facility just west of the Juan Santa Maria International airport and have them refilled as you wait from the Guard Entrance. Takes about 20 minutes or so. I have 2 tanks so when the one is done I have the backup until I make the run to Tropigas. There are also some gas stations like Total in Santana/Lindora that you can just purchase/exchange the new style tanks like is done with the older style CR tanks at the local pulperias. Hope this helps.

    Hi There,
Every country that I know of will not allow a foreigner to arrive with a one way ticket. If you have done so before it is probably because the agent at check in did not notice. That is a standard operating procedure for international travel. If you are a non-US or European Union citizen you may also be required to show proof of hotel reservation and X amount of cash/ credit cards as well. Hope this helps.

If you eat at the restaurants on the “Strip” in Escazu you are going to pay crazy prices. I for one no longer do so… there are many fine restaurants all over the valley where you can enjoy excellent meals for reasonable prices in a comfortable ambiance. As for a “gringo” menu I have never been aware of such a thing in almost 10 years here… however in getting price quotes on products and services that is another story… just don’t take the first price quoted if you feel your are being “gouged” and get several quotes. You will only be taken advantage of if you let yourself be.

Have a great weekend and venture off the strip for great food at fair prices.

    Hi there,
It is true that trying to get the information is not only difficult but different depending on who you ask and when. That being said, I brought 3 dogs and a cat several years ago as do people all the time. I would recommend contacting my vet Dr Adrian Molina who has a veterinarian clinic in Escazu as he could help you with current info available to him. His phone is 506.2228.1909. At the time I brought my pets, a current check up and documentation of all shots being current with a rabies free certificate from your local vet was needed. It had to be notarized and you had to travel to Costa Rica within 10 days for it to be valid. I have known from others that this notarization was not necessary for them so it really is open… Hope this helps. All my pets are doing great ๐Ÿ™‚

Really folks… governments and their ilk are nothing more than the highest form of organized crime. Stop relying on someone else to save you and rely on God and your own God given instincts and abilities to provide for you and yours. We have been brainwashed in to thinking that “they” are here to help us… wake up and smell the roses. “It was all a frame” (Johnny Rotten) circa 1977. Beautifully put grb1063!!
