Better yet use a beautiful natural stone instead of tile… little more pricey but just gorgeous!

We have been using CIMA since they opened almost 8 years ago and have been thru child births, serious emergencies, minor surgeries and routine visits. They have been more than pleasant, professional and reasonable. While prices have risen over the years what prices haven’t? Yes pharmacy is more expensive, I use my local, blood work isn’t that much more than the lab in Santana so depends what it is to warrant driving back and forth. I am thankful we have it here at a price I can generally afford to pay cash… could never have in the states for 2 emergencies we had. In many instances (not at an establishment such as CIMA) the gringo price is generally for those who don’t say NO and walk away… thing is here you bargain… it’s fun 🙂 Kind of like China Town, offer back a little less than half… your sure to arrive at a good price for both… having a copy of Attorney Roger Petersen’s book “The Legal Guide To Costa Rica” is also a great help to the newcomer for understanding the wages for different professions so you can then figure what labor cost should be etc…

    Cheers!

    Hi Bob & Alice,
I believe the only way you will be able to mark an address is to actually be where you want to “Mark” or “WayPoint” when you actually get here. Or you can just mark the city you are going to and that will get you close… but it is not as sophisticated as a real street address or restaurant etc… There is a pretty nice Costa Rica map you can purchase for your Garmin from a local company http://www.rsgps.net. They gave me good service and a couple free updates for mine.

    Best wishes

Gee..I’m glad to know that the World Police is looking after my best interest and keeping a Jihad out of my Tico neighborhood! If the World Police would go home and mind their own business they would never have to worry about a “Jihad” or get a “bad rap”! You should Google/YouTube Shawn Lorenzo Yorks suggestions above and stay away from CNN/FOX for a while. What the US has for a Government today is nothing as the founding fathers envisioned… in fact it is the very Government they warned you about…

    Hi BeachGypsy,
I would highly recommend Adrian Molina who has an office in Escazu. I have used him for years. He is a true animal care giver and his staff has provided excellent care to many of my animals over the years. He speaks fluent English and received his degree in the States. If he is unable to assist you personally he can help put you in contact with the University in Heredia as David suggested. The number of the clinic is 2.228.1909. I had a serious accident with one of my dogs last year and Adrian worked with the Specialist at the University and saved the paw of my Cocker. She now runs again minus 2 toes 😉 Hope this helps.

    Hi JeanP,
If you are asking for purchasing in CostaRica your only real quality Vitamin Supplement option is GNC which is located in Multi Plaza Escazu and I believe they have another store in Escazu as well, and are opening soon in Santa Ana. They may not be the least expensive but probably the best local option. Trying to order online and bring to Costa Rica is next to impossible as this will require almost an act of God to get thru the customs bureaucracy. There are many “Macrobiotic” stores throughout the metropolitan area as well that offer supplements and you could most likely find some quality products at reasonable prices. Happy hunting 🙂

    Hi Charmaine,
Avocados can be grown in all regions of Costa Rica. The only thing you need to take into account is the altitude where you will be planting. A good nursery will be able to tell you which of their trees is right for yours. I live in the mountains and require the mexican type fruit. There are other varieties on my property that were planted before but they will not produce as they are not for my zone.
    Hope this helps,

    Hi Susan,
You can indeed get the Ball wide mouth canning jars at the Auto Mercado Supermarket chain. I have seen and purchased them at the stores in Santana and Heredia. From time to time they are out of stock but I have seen them for at least five years in regular stock. I believe they are also at the Cemaco department stores but not all the time. The only question is how many do you need? I saw about six or so the other day at one of the stores. Keep in mind, as is the case with many items here that are imported, some times they run out and it can take several weeks or more before they are restocked. Auto Mercado also usually keeps a nice selection of Lodge cast iron cookware if that is of interest to you. Hope this helps.

in reply to: Costa Rica Roof Tiles – Plastic? #189702

    Hi there,
I purchased these same tiles from the same company mentioned above several years ago in 2001. They lasted about 3 years before I needed replacing them. They leaked terribly in heavy rains and damaged my ceiling as well as when working on the roof they cracked and became brittle under the tropical sun here. Also, as they deteriorated I noticed mixed into the plastic were wood particles… Unless they have changed the formula drastically I would stick to a tin roofing material in this climate and paint it every couple years… save yourself some money and headache.

    Hope this helps,

WOW …would have cost at least 10k or more up North…and taken as much time or more for the Doc to take care of you in an emergency room. Have had many visits including the birth of my child… $1,800 C-Section which included one night in Hospital… granted that was 5 years ago and with 3 Doctors 2 anesthesioligists and 3 nurses but was told from friends would have been 18k in the states…it may not be perfect …but my family and I have had several E room visits with excellent care.

Great Fred! Glad to hear. I have been here 7 years and love it. You have found a good starting point here at welovecostarica and with Scott. There are many here who love the outdoors and you should find some kindred souls for sure. Have a great trip :-))
