Hi, we live on the road to Barva and have had the same problem. No one seems to know why. We also have several “low power” problems per day where our lights flicker or lower, but don’t quite go out. Our neighbors don’t seem to know why and don’t seem to care. Thank God for power back ups, it at least gives us enough time to turn off our computers. Good luck to you, tm

This might provide more info: http://www.friendsofericvolz.com/updates.htm. I don’t know about you, but I am going to write my congressman back home. If I got into trouble in any foreign country, I would certainly expect my embassy to help out. Isn’t that what they are there for??? tm

Friends: I understand that a major problem with the wind turbines near the San Francisco area is that they kill a lot of birds, including protected species. I believe that might present a problem in Costa Rica where there are so many different kinds of birds. I fear that in the tico way, that as soon as it rains and everyone has power again, no one will follow up on this disaster in the making. Before anyone responds, I am all for alternative methods of power, it just that we don’t want to injure the ecosystem either. Also, before moving here, I investigated investing in solar power in Southern California. I found that the equipment was so expensive that it was doubtful whether or not one could ever recoup the costs involved. If it’s that expensive in California, I really fear the price in CR. A solution might be conservation and stricter development requirements? tm

Hi, I just moved here last July and enrolled my littliest in the AIS. As we are returning also, it is important to find a school on the american schedule – which leaves AIS, CDS and Lincoln. I was not impressed with the old Lincoln campus, but have heard very good things about the new campus. As I am disappointed in the AIS (don’t even think about considering it for HS) I am heading over to the New Lincoln this week to check it out for next year. I wasn’t too pleased with CDS either. Too expensive, class size too large and have heard complaints re teachers. Remember, american schedule here means Mid-August start (one month off in December) and end in Mid-June.

As your child is in high school, his school record will be very important for his future college choice. I suggest you make sure the school is accredited and has the american or international baccalaureate (which both Lincoln and CDS have).

    Best of luck to you,
