Alexander:
I just got through doing some research on it for my house (which is on the beach and requires ac). It would cost me $42-$50,000 to be able to crank out and store the kw’s I need to run ac’s….so for me it wasn’t cost effective. You being in Puriscal where ac is really not needed so much, would be far less expensive…I called the guys that advertise on AM Costa Rica and they quoted me some prices bases upon my daily kw needs.
Daily kw need is the first thing you need to determine…There are alot of online calculators for this…Hope this helps.
tstomstew1Member
….and yet the entire country is still safer than Houston TX. Nowhere is perfect.
I live in Houston and have a house in Palo Seco…I don’t have to pay someone to guard my house 24hrs a day in Houston. I do in Palo Seco….Theft is like a national sport in CR.
Sorry, couldn’t resist 🙂
Scott: You always seem to find a way to try and bash the USA…Why is that?
tomstew1MemberI was not celebrating anything really…I was commenting on the fact that I feel I have found a good contractor after a long search. Actually we are more than 60% through with the exterior and I have not had one complaint.
I certainly don’t mind offering negative comments when warranted; and they are not warranted now.
Some of the people on this board have a bad case of the negativitis, aka pissiness.
“You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.”
The only reason I commented actually was due to the many compalints that I see and my overall satisfaction with this group.
tomstew1Member
yes, absolutely no problem. it goes from your home server straight to ICE,
I should have phrased my question better.
I would like to gift someone in CR a Blackberry. Would it work for them using ICE? Would there be an extra charge for them?
Thanks again,
TStomstew1MemberThanks VMC.
Like I said earlier…I should have kept my fingers busy elsewhere.Maybe I am just on my male period or something….bloated and insecure!!!!!!

tomstew1Member
You’re making a lot of assumptions there tomstew1
Please explain where the “hating” is in my initial post?
So we can all assume that you’re happy that your taxes are paying for that new one billion dollar embassy then?
And we can assume that you innocently believe your vote actually makes a difference?
So we should forget the past mistakes and the fact that we tend to repeat them ad nauseum and “move forward positive.”
I certainly am not alone in making assumptions here.
Hating may have been too strong…negatively slanted comments may have been a better choice.
So we can all assume that you’re happy that your taxes are paying for that new one billion dollar embassy then?
I am never happy to give my money to anyone really, but I like driving on nice roads, and all of the schools I attending were far from crumbling. Believe it or not, all of my schools after High School even had air conditioning! I do dislike poverty; more than you could ever understand actually….I was born into povery and experienced it first hand. That is one of the things that makes the USA great. You do have the opportunity to escape poverty. Is it easy? NoDo I like the fact that the US is spending $1B on an embassy in London. Not particularly. On my “pissed at the gov’t” meter, that ranks so low it is undetectable. Understand that there is quite a bit of range between:
Happy with all gov’t actions————————totally pissed at USA and want to expatriate. And we can assume that you innocently believe your vote actually makes a difference? However innocent or naive I may be to think so, the short anwer is yes. Beacuse: 1. It has worked in the past. 2. It is the only system I have to actually make change and finally; 3. I have seen it in action and it does actually work.
Are there things that needs to be changed, yes….ear marks, etc…and eventually those changes will be made. It just hasn’t gotten to critical mass just yet.
So we should forget the past mistakes and the fact that we tend to repeat them ad nauseum and “move forward positive.”[/ To answer your question: No, that would be senseless; and I wished I hadn’t use the term positive..Actually that word is considerably overused in the US. We should learn from our mistakes and diligently move forward on creating a better world for ALL of us. New thinking is always good (remember Einsteins quote), and ultimately it is up to the people of the US to vote and make change where change needs to be made.
Don’t take anyting I said personally…actually I am busy as hell and probably shouldn’t have let my fingers do the talking here…..
I am coming to CR for the beauty of the country, good fishing and good people. I hate to be around people who only see “half empty” water bottles so-to-speak.

tomstew1MemberWow!
Disgruntled americans and disgruntled brits hating america. One important lesson I learned early in life is this:
If you don’t like the way the world looks (substitute world for ANYTHING), then change YOUR glasses. If you think moving to Costa Rica is going to “make things better” then you may be in for a shock. You will or have brought the same bs to Costa Rica that you had in the US or where ever you come/came from….
It’s fairly common to bash AMERICA right now and honestly I too don’t like some of the happenings within our government. Who’s fault is it? It is ours; Afterall, we all have the opportunity to vote, to protest and make changes…. and do so without loosing your head, hand or otherwise to a government gun.
Has anyone considered that there may be STRICT zoning in London? hahahahahahah
Have a good day and please try to move forward postitive. You never know when the US may have to rescue your rear from being bombed by the Germans or you find yourself otherwise in peril.

TStomstew1MemberOf the places you mentioned (which I have visited) I would also recommend San Ramon..
tomstew1Member
Wow, again! You mean somebody actually was able to read that entire post? I sure couldn’t. I, too, disagree with what he posted, but since it was not easily understandable, I pretty much ignored it.
Agree with you jdocop….I couldn’t get through the first two sentences without an overwhelming feeling of “Who gives a crap what you think”….seems the internet has shrunk the world and the brain.
TStomstew1MemberTS, I was glad to hear about your positive experience. I have been hearing that the new toll road isn’t so great after all unless you catch it at just the right time. Some say the traffic has been bad and the squeezing down to 2 lanes adds to it. I want to take it from SJ airport to the coast and then south to Dominical.
~Bill
Bill:
I did read about backups at toll booths and some other compalints, but I didn’t experience any of that really….Alot of people just like to bitch and moan about anything…you know how that is….
I went down on a Thursday around 3pm and came back to SJ on a Saturday around 1pm…No worries…the road has plenty of pass lanes for slower traffic…The only problem I had was gringos in front of me trying to get directions for the toll booth operators…It will save you 45-50 minutes off that trip….plus I heard the road from Quepos to Dominical is now paved….that will save you some time also….
The only difficult part for me was determining where to get on and off….I usually rent vehicles from Dollar (airport location) and those guys were very helpful and although I wasn’t confident about their directions when I left the Dollar lot, I did follow their instructions to the letter and they were perfect. I didn’t have ANY confidence on the directions on the way back because he said the following “Go until the road ends and turn left”….go straight for about 5 miles and there is a hill with a Bridgestone Tire plant at the top of the hill with a big sign…exit at the top of the hill and we (dollar rental) are about 300 mtr on your right….well I did just what he said and again he was spot on…..
If you rent a car, rent it from them because it is damned easy to get onto and off of the road from their location….
tomstew1MemberI just used the new road for the first time this past week and here is what I was told to do; I did and it worked.
From Ortina my instructions were to take the toll road and go as far as you could until the road came to a T….turn left and go straight…you are on hwy 1 (Interamericana) and if you continue going straight you will hit the airport in approximately 10 miles….this info worked…
tomstew1Member
When did the toll road open, I thought it was projected for later this year?
Is it now open all the way from Caldera to Escazu now?
Also do you know if the entrance/exit near Atenas is open now too?
Thanks
I can speak to this: It is open from Escazu to Ortina which is where I got off to head to the Quepos area.
I know that you can exit Atenas as I did pay attention to the exit in that area…I would imagine the entrace is open also…
tomstew1Member
Glad to hear about you experience. Is there an entry/exit west of the airport? I will be heading down to Dominical in a couple of weeks.
JS
Sorry, can’t comment…I only know one way and that is from the Dollar Rent a car by the airport…its only three or four miles from the airport and is easy to find.
tomstew1MemberDavid is the winner!
I thought I would be 100 by the time I got off the mountain leading from Los Angeles to Carmona….Kind of a scary ride!
