Please look at the “timing” of this ruling, a predominantly Republican court okays gay marriage, in the middle of an election cycle, parading this non-issue out, just like in 00 and 04.
What impact does a few florists in Fresno, walking down the aisle, have on anyones’ daily lives? Shouldn’t we be more morally outraged over tens of thousands of slaughtered Iraqi women and children? How about our use of depleted uranium to poison the lands and air in the middle east? And now our greedy traders playing with unregulated commodities, that may cause the slow starvation of possibly Millions of people?
Why aren’t the preachers blathering about the raped women and torched villages in Darfur?
I’m not soapboxing, I’m merely suggesting, the gay issue, is just nonsense to take everyones eye off the real issues, again.
I have gay friends, many have already had “commitment ceremonies” that have failed, so aren’t in any big hurry to join our ranks of multiple divorces.

I would like to think that I’m running towards something, not running away from anything. Running from a sea of drones, in cubicles, crossing off the days till I die on a desk-size calender with a black sharpie. Let me go plunging to my death on a zip line in a rain forest, not slumped over the buffet line at Golden Corral from an msg induced coma.
Days separated by natural beauty and a little adventure, not by evenings of Dancing with the stars and American Gladiator.
For me, our once great country has turned into some twilight zone, where the food is fake and the water is a sludge of chemicals. More laws are put in place to “protect” the children and if we’re good we get a week in Disneyland.
Things now are so complex that the only recourse is zoloft and lunesta for millions. Too fat to protest, to tired to notice.
I think there are others like me who just are tired of living in a land of surreality. I know we will keep engaging in wars, too much money not to, fear will keep spreading and I don’t want to play on this holadeck anymore.

Alfred, I, a presumed left-winger, supported Dr.Ron Paul for president (conservative and republican). He was our last and only hope, to at the least bring the real issues to the table and we saw how the media and the established parties dismissed him.
But my main point is “they” dont care what we think or how we vote, the fat lady sang her last words. The machine was put into place 100 years ago and it can’t be undone now. The corporations are more powerful than governments and as long as “they” are in control, candidates are irrelevant, we are irrelevant. We are just drones and consumers and now that we cant buy, they’ve moved on to other markets. For the war profiteers, the wars will just keep coming, religion and resources, just like it’s been through out history. Please, be optimists, but if you really study and research our current situation, here in the US, the truth will be glaring.
And my last point, in 06 we sent truckloads of dems to
Washington, has anything changed? Halt of war funding? Questions about no-bid defense contracts? Bringing the true wall street criminals to justice? Nothing. We should all stand together in defense of this country, but no, now that gay marriage is legal in California, I’m sure that will be the “issue” consuming this election, like it was in the last two, again with no relevance to reality, merely fodder to polarize us.

I know WLCR is a happy, informative place, not a place to vent, but a nyt best seller, Confessions of an Economic Hitman is a must read. Here’s an interview with the author.

Moon, just a heads up, I’m heading for the CR coast. If because I oppose an illegal, immoral war of aggression, the corporate gangsters and banksters, Monsanto gm food, torture, the destruction of the environment and the Constitution, if you think that makes me a left winged liberal, then so be it.
But you and Ann Coulter can do a victory dance, you win and I’m done fighting about it. The worlds’ wealth is now in the hands of 2% of the population. A few thousand corporations control all the wealth and resources.
The only terrorists are us. So while you were waving your flag, calling us unpatriotic the true evil did whatever they pleased and laugh while the people yap about red states and blue states, right wing wing/left wing, black/white, lapel flags/no lapel flags. Do you really think Exxon cares anymore what we think or if we support Al Frankin or Rush Linbaugh? They made 10billion last quarter!
It’s a shell game-keep us all at each others’throats, while Chase and BoA and Citi collect their interest payments. So keep watching corporate sponsored tv and believe you are forming your own opinion that left wingers are behind the demise of our youth…I’m going to the beach…

Great info guys, I appreciate all the tips. Can anyone clarify the 60k account, can that money be in a regular account (like a savings account in my name)or does that money go into a special account. I’m guessing that amount will at some point go up, as our dollar goes down, so I wanted to start that process early too. Do I have to monthly change the dollars to colones or is that automatic?
I read somewhere I need to show a criminal background check to someone, is that in CR or at the consulate or to the lawyer I hire? Thanks,Tracy

Very good, so I need my Sa first, is there anything I need from the consulate? The closest consulate with jurisdictional say in my region is in Atlanta (anyone dealt with that office before)? Sometimes it takes forever to get certain documents and paperwork put together so I’m trying to sort out what I need ahead of time! thanks

is it recommended to form a corp, prior to my purchase of property? Is it better to purchase the property through a corp? What kind of references are needed/from whom? Are there BCR branches in the Flamingo area, do they have a Spanish/English website for me to research? thanks

What a resource you guys are! Thanks annel, I’m glad you have had good experiences in the Flamingo area. I will try to take in as much of the local culture as possible-but it will take time, I’m sure.
I think I will start with one of the on-line Spanish classes, languages come pretty easily, I speak French and had 3 years of Spanish back in high school. I’m just glad Portugal didn’t arrive in CR before the Spaniard’s, that’s a bit of a funky language!
I will have to add, my area here has a large Hispanic population and most have totally isolated themselves, they have Tiendas and their restaurants and bars, they even have a huge Mexican flea market on weekends. Oddly, when they do go to the grocery stores, their kids can speak English (they’re in school), but very few speak any English. It isn’t helping them assimilate and it causes some resentment, so I get that learning the local language is important. Those that are assimilating tend to be from Central and south America and speak English

Wow, thanks all for the good info. Perro, congrats on the new baby! I am a USFer so I know Tampa! I would be very interested in knowing how your friend is doing in Surfside, any issues or problems and I’m ready for happy hours at the local hangouts! (I use to sling Pina Colada’s at the Adam’s Mark on CWB back in my college days).
I am by no means trying to hide out in a Can/Am enclave, I just feel a strong network would be crucial to my success in a move like this. It takes time to blend with any new environment.
I am set on a beach lifestyle, which is a very different life than interior or country life, but that’s just me.
As for heat, I really found the Texas heat a lot more annoying-temps close to 100 and no humidity-felt like a dry oven and I wont be looking at any homes without AC!
Becky, I’ll email you directly so we can discuss all this further. Anymore info on the Flamingo/Potrero area is welcomed, thanks!

I want to be around the Can/Am’s initially as a practical consideration. I will need some type of network to help navigate, until I feel more assimilated, that may take a couple of years. The community I am asking about(Surfside Estates) is one of the older ones, which is why I am asking here for any input about it.
Why reinvent the wheel? If there are neighbors who know; better roads, where to buy nails and what services might be needed!

I left Clearwater years ago, a short stint in Texas and have lived in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina (Asheville) for years.
I will travel to my first pick in July/August. As I mentioned, I am looking for a safe established community (hopefully no crocs)! It is important there be plenty of transplants around until I get my bearings culturally and linguistically. I’m pretty set on the beach life. I am not interested in buying land or lots and want a house, not a condo.

I grew up in Clearwater, minutes from the beach. We didn’t even have air conditioning until I was in elementary school and plenty of afternoon thunderstorms! I’m not a surfer, but my research tells me there are “gentle” waters in that area.
I may have read too much Hemingway and might be in love with my dream and not the reality, so I’m open to all devil’s advocacy!
