Take a close look before swatting a scorpion with your flip flop. Their young ride on the mother’s back and if swatted, the babies will scatter in all directions. I had one in my shorts and got nailed on the knee when getting dressed a few years ago. First thing that came to mind was that it could have been much worse..heh

i have pineapple oranges, strawberry oranges, blood oranges, navel oranges, valencianas, and two or three other varieties that i haven’t yet identified, plus clementines, tangerines, mesino limes, and key limes. not having to buy citrus here saves me about $3.00 a month! jajaja

I’m very interested in growing different varieties of citrus fruits. I have six acres in the southern zone close to the beach so the heat would be a factor in what varieties to choose from. I planted some grapefruit, starfruit, key lime and hsve other well established fruit trees but am intrigued by pineapple, strawberry and other unusual orange varieties.
I would really appreciate it if you could pass on the spanish names for these varieties and if you have information for heat tolerance.

I cut my bananas down and hung them from a rope this morning. They should be ripe enough for me to make a few banana cream pies in a few days.
    Have a nice day

hmmm…well the truth for me is that this forum is poorly moderated and to have someone post a video of a person being attacked by a lion?
How exactly does that fit in with the We Love Costa Rica theme?
At least some of the more hardcore amerigun paranoia threads are less frequent. Just my opinion.

Limes…maybe someone can help me here for the name of the variety that’s the size of an orange, orange interior sometimes called lemons.
A good thing to bring down with you is a good quality electric juicer.I use mine all the time and make lime ice cubes then freeze and put in freezer baggies.
Good for later use for making ceviche, lemonade, margueritas, etc.

Chayotes…great for pasta sauces and soups. I like to sautee carrot, chayote, onion, garlic, curry, add broth, and a few other ingredients, simmer, then blend. Add some coconut milk and reheat.
Very nice flavorful soup. A Madras curry paste is better but curry powder works well.
I should also mention to peel and core a chayote much like an apple. You can cook them in butter alone if you like and will take a bit longer than a carrot to soften somewhat.
Great post by the way..Looking forward to other recipes and responses for when you go to the grocery store and wonder how to prepare unknown tropical fruits and veggies.

Many years ago I panned the river near Carate. I was successful in finding a little bit of gold, maybe enough to buy a soda.
I believe the tent camp nearby now offers panning as part of a tour.
