Thread gone wrong. Scott feel free to close it.
VersatileMemberI thought about this last night ad the question i came up with is “How many properties did the author sell last year?”
VersatileMember
I would be inclined to agree with the article and the author. In October of this year, we made an offer for a four year old, two story, 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 2,500 sq. foot beachfront property, 20% below the asking price. The seller accepted the offer without hesitatation. There were smaller ranch style homes in our gated community, that had an asking price of $313,000.
You purchased at 20% below market not 10% below market and “without hesitation”.
VersatileMemberFYI, the government in CR sets the prices – as minimums & maximums for all dental procedures; you can go to their site and get that info. The dental clinic I used, smile90210costarica.com is closer to
How about a link?
VersatileMemberNo Sir i do not have anyone to recommend. Let us know if he shows up. Thanks
VersatileMemberI would be interested why you are giving Victor another chance to not show up?:?:
VersatileMember
Just a few point that will make you more likely to make it here in the long run!
1. Learn SOME spanish… even your attempts at broken spanglish will make you much more popular in town! If nothing else you’re trying… and might even get a laugh out of a new friend in town! TRYING is more important than just not doing so, even if your spanish is AWFUL!!!!
2. “A” type persons should stay home! Lunch or coffee can become a day long adventure! A trip to the hardware store for a bolt should be allotted a three hour slot in your day! Adjust your lifestyle to match the daylight hours here… up early… and in bed at 9pm!
3. Tico’s don’t seem to attached the same importance to watches or days of the week… just get over it!
4. Make local friends… Tico’s are a wonderful people… and much smarter than you think! We make a point of having pizza or spagetti night and inviting folks we know from town… be it the bank teller or the guy you know from the gas station! Play Uno…. or have a movie night…. even if it’s one you’ve seen and it’s in spanish without subtitles!
5. Remember people’s names and faces… the guy at the hardware store or the lady from the bank live in town… you’ll see them around… say hi… shake their hand in passing… when you call folks by their name and acknowledge them it opens so many doors!
6. Become part of the community… you’ll find a way to help someone else, or a cause… and it will come back to you tenfold! I can speak from personal experience on this one!
7. Don’t try to make CR like home… remember… you left home for something different… and this place is different… some good, some bad! Just like home!
I could go on and on but this topic has been touched on before… some folks will never be happy ANYWHERE… and as for the original question… there really isn’t any solid data… but no doubt there’s a good amount of folks that don’t last more then a few years… some of us are lucky enough to be able to enjoy homes in several different places… folks that find themselves unhappy and place all their eggs in one basket without really doing their research are rarely happy with the outcome.
A very good post. I like many are working my plan to come to CR. Feels good that i am thinking a lot just like you posted.
VersatileMemberSounds like a good reason for a local road trip! Meet some locals.:)
VersatileMemberWith all due respect to everyone. This is Scott’s web site and he can set it up how he fits. Sure it is somewhat an infomercial. You are not forced to respond to any advertisement and you are not forced to post here at all. Scott has to make a living like anyone else. I don’t always agree with Scott but like i said; we are in his house.
VersatileMemberIRRC Any vehicle after 1974 has a converter. Even though your state doesn’t test emissions your are required by Federal law to have one. It is a felony to remove it.
That would be any gasoline fueled vehicle.
VersatileMember
Will do. I’m eager to learn as much as I can, so perhaps I’ve irritatingly jumped the gun with my post. I’m the schmuck!
I’ll search around and revel in the thought of visiting
Naw, you haven’t irritated anyone imo. Just trying to get you up to speed on the fast track. You will definitely enjoy your trip.
VersatileMemberThe thought of a trip to CR is a great thing. Some many others have asked many of the same questions and there are only a few to answer them. The best advice is to read all the forums and every post that you can although they might not pertain to what you are interested in. You will pick up so much more info that will answer many other questions you will have after you arrive and it will greatly enhance your visit. There are some great threads almost exactly like the plans that you have. Thanks for posting. Please start a thread about your trip while in Cr or after you return home. Darn i sound lie a moderator or something and i am neither. Just a shmuck like anyone else! lol
VersatileMember
I believe, I read somewhere, not sure, that you may only have and carry a handgun up to .45 caliber. Can anyone provide input?
I guess that would rule out my 454 Casull; but hey a .45 will surely do the job.
VersatileMemberThanks Scott. I went to one link but i missed the good one. No races in Jan 2010.
VersatileMemberSorry for your loss. My female shepard was a best friend for 12 years.
Can you relate anything of your experience that my help out others. Such as a strange car, did you have a schedule that you did not vary from, was it an inside job, did you talk to much and some of your plans got out of you secure circle, do you suspect someone that has been to your property before, have others around you been robbed as well, have you compared notes with the neighbors? -
