Sentient? The advanced definition: “capable of metacognition” And so far, only humans qualify.

The rare earths are a good investment – provided there is an industrial need for them, and there wouldn’t be if things collapse.
How about books? Gunsmithing, cooperage, soap making and other basic formulas?
VictoriaLSTMemberDefine “sentient” please. And compared to what?
And cannibals get nasty diseases specific to their human meat diet.
VictoriaLSTMemberI think it has something to do with developing a “personal relationship” with a horse. Raising, training, riding. We just don’t have that kind of relationship with cows.
VictoriaLSTMemberProving the building was broken into is no problem. I wonder if things like tools actually need to be “specifically insured” (like fine arts) or if the companies are just being dodgy.
February 26, 2013 at 3:04 pm in reply to: U.S. Citizens Owning Gold As An Asset/Hedge Just Got Harder #159133VictoriaLSTMemberHey, JMC, “not convinced that gold is more than the game of the day”? Gold has had value for 10,000 years or more! As for diamonds, they are parsed out by companies with huge holdings in those gems. They keep the price up by releasing small numbers of stones at a time. Gold, however, is very limited in supply and is snapped up quickly.
And lets remember our history. In the US, it was legal to own gold, then it became illegal (except for jewelry and collectables) then legal again. The US government could decide at any time that it is again illegal and you would be forced to turn in your gold for paper money.
I agree, if you ain’t holdin’ you ain’t ownin’.

Is this the canary in the coal mine? #205261VictoriaLSTMemberCR mandates a certain number of years of education. Then they tell you, “but make sure your child has the proper uniform and supplies”.
So, you make c40,000 – 50,000 a week as a farm worker. Uniforms and supplies are c80,000 – 90,000. Or you can buy food. No wonder so many children end up with three years of education.
VictoriaLSTMemberI stand corrected.
VictoriaLSTMemberOH NO! Not another BRIT!
