Its about time he moved here! I hope he comes to Nuevo Arenal to visit because we can’t wait to meet him.
(Explains a lot, does’t it?)
VictoriaLSTMemberYup, Dave and CRfinca are correct. And you will really want private schools if you don’t live in an urban area. Here in the rural areas, there are a lot of tiny (10-15 students) one room schools with little support for books/materials. You aren’t going to be satisfied with the quality of education you get.
Cost of living is also a huge issue – if you want an American standard. Look closely at your finances.VictoriaLSTMemberRight. And I would love to see some really fine CR jewelry at the bazaar.

A “crossing guard” who waves over any truck deemed to heavy for the bridge. And, after the two mile backup of traffic on the Interamerica yesterday, how about stopping trucks with so great a load and so underpowered that they can’t go more than 40kph? That would help the general traffic flow.
VictoriaLSTMemberOh good. You got my message.
November 7, 2012 at 4:02 pm in reply to: The Continuing Saga of the Never-Ending Problems on the General Cañas Highway. #201855VictoriaLSTMemberMuch as I dislike toll roads/bridges, I have to agree with you, Scott. An alert toll-taker could at least wave over-limit vehicles to the side. Too bad the fine isn’t enough to cover the damage. I suppose suing the company isn’t possible?
VictoriaLSTMember🙄 ‘Jeepers’ and ‘golly gee’! I wish I could say what I really think about all this, but Scott would ban me for life for that kind of ‘discussion’.:twisted:
VictoriaLSTMemberSuper idea. And I like that the group is helping a family in the area. Also a nice time to buy for Christmas. And its wonderful that the local hotels/B&Bs are cooperating. The lake area is beautiful so I hope there is a big turnout of people for the weekend. They can stop and see Volcan Arenal and the Hanging Bridges.

NONSENSE. It’s 2 vials for about $50. In The Empire, you get bit by a rattler, it’s over $1200 per vial(applied by a clueless moron).Guess where they get it ?
I buy 4 at a time, every six months, and used 2 vials one time on my……mastiff.Worked like a champ.
Thank you for the reminder. I’ll call Mario(vet) tomorrow and get a couple of fresh ones.
[/quote]Is that Dr. Mario in Tilaran? If so, I will contact him, if not, how do I get in touch with your vet. The other place in Tilaran had no supply of serum and no idea when they would get some.

November 1, 2012 at 1:21 am in reply to: Required to report to Social Security when you leave the United States for more than 30 days? #173940VictoriaLSTMemberWe have an account in the US and access it easily using an ATM. With a charge, naturally.
VictoriaLSTMemberEvidently the anti-venom is both hideously expensive and in very short supply due to short ‘shelf life’ in the refrigerator. Friends and I have been discussing putting a number of families together to buy it when it is available. Sounds like a plan.
October 31, 2012 at 2:59 pm in reply to: Required to report to Social Security when you leave the United States for more than 30 days? #173933VictoriaLSTMemberWe just went to the embassy and filled out that paper for certification of benefits to start our residency. SS checks are automatically deposited in BCR. Sure hope we don’t need to do anything else.
Oh, on a lighter note – at least the embassy personnel know where they are javascript:addSmiley(‘:)’);
October 31, 2012 at 2:51 pm in reply to: Just starting our investigation about moving to Costa Rica #173551VictoriaLSTMember…but, can’t you start a business without all this fuss? As a retired person, I haven’t checked.
VictoriaLSTMemberOur neighbor was getting it for us at Dos Pinos in Tilaran, although they do not have it in stock at present but they are ordering it so it is possible that other Dos Pinos’ can also order. Shelf life – refrigerated – is about 6 months, although older serum is better than none. Vets usually do not carry the serum due to cost and shelf life. There is also an injectable for the shock which often accompanies envenomation. More info when I have it.
