I understand the needed documents and I have them. What do I have to do to get them “certified in U.S. (Secretary of State) Who would I go to to certify my documents? and be ready to take to CR?
If you haven’t moved to CR yet, you take the documents to the CR consulate nearest you to get them certified. This is the apostille (ok I can’t spell) process and is in accordance with an international treaty. We didn’t do this before we left the States and have had to spend time and over $1400. to get the documents certified through visalady.com. What a mess.
VictoriaLSTMemberI sent you a private message. In case you don’t know how to retrieve it (I didn’t know about it at first), your “Inbox” is above the blue “Message” line.
VictoriaLSTMemberyou can buy a cell without residency or we would all be talking to ourselves. 🙂 Just not enough therapists to handle the volume if that happens. There are a lot of places that sell them
VictoriaLSTMemberAnyone tell the editor?
VictoriaLSTMemberWell, we have two dogs and, yes, they do bark on occasion. But then, the howler monkeys and the local rooster also wake me up. Solution? Really nice earplugs which I use all the time. My dogs will still wake me on occasion, but only when they mean business.
VictoriaLSTMemberOops that should be OF Visquez Associates, not “or”
VictoriaLSTMemberI would like to recommend our attorney, Mr. Gonzalo, (affectionately known as Junior) or Visquez Oreamuno y Asociados. The firm has offices in San Jose and Playa del Coco on the NW coast. Phone is 8816-1681 and the email is costaricalegaladvice@gmail.com
The firm came highly recommended to us and the cost, two people for $2950, is quite reasonable. Another benefit? The SJ office is down the street from the US Embassy in SJ.
Best of luck
VictoriaLSTMemberHi all. I think there are probably CR tax accountants with an expertise in US taxes. If anyone knows of one, let us all know.
VictoriaLSTMemberSocial Security Trust Fund? You be trippin’ Dave. The fund is going broke, it loans money to the government by buying T bonds, they are going to have to shore it up somehow. If it is secure, why don’t our congressional officials have to retire on it?
VictoriaLSTMemberNot much to say, except that up in Aguacate (near Nuevo Arenal) nothing much happened, no pix off the wall, although my neighbor had a can of beer explode and her shelf fell. I would be scared to death to live on the 10th floor in an earthquake zone.
VictoriaLSTMemberHi Waggoner. I think I have an idea about that “long arm”of the government” and I posted it once before.
If you rely in part on social security payments it goes like this:
As a “temporary measure” and as of X date, if you retire out of the US you only get to take 75% of your social security.
Oops – have to make that measure permanent.
Oops – you can only take 50% after Y date.
Oops – sorry have to make the 50% permanent.
So sorry. If you retire out of the US, you don’t take any of your social security.I posted something about this possible government grab a few months ago and someone told me not to mention it again. It might give the government ideas. What do you think, Wagg?
VictoriaLSTMember
So is there a question here, sprite, or are you just offering advice? Or not?
Why do we have to have a question. Maybe we just want to post a statement and find out if there are other thoughts, or post a link for the info it holds. Lighten up, Dave 🙂
VictoriaLSTMemberUp here in the Nuevo Arenal area, a former ER doctor and his nurse wife came up with a terrific solution to the virtually non-existent emergency services in the area (response time is well over an hour and that’s being conservative). They formed a heart attack response group with the individuals in the group trained in both compression-only CPR and use of a defibrillator and oxygen. I hope we never have to use the service – or provide it – but I am certainly glad its there.
VictoriaLSTMemberI liked that part about people who buy on the beach head inland in 2 years. We flew to CR to look at a specific property at Jaco Beach. This was only our second trip to CR. After 3 days of too much heat and humidity we headed for Lake Arenal because I had been corresponding with Moran Realty there for 3 years. After 5 hours of looking at property, we put an offer on a house, it was accepted, and the whirlwind of moving began. It was like an episode of “Househunters International”. My husband is still in shock!
VictoriaLSTMemberWell, according to Wiki, the tree is being cultivated in Honduras. Seeds might be available from there.
