On Tuesday of this week, a vaccination was required at Pinas Blancas, “to clean the blood”. No info on what it was actually for and no way to avoid getting it. Because vaccines are often produced using eggs, people with an egg allergy suffer from these vaccines. One teen broke out in a rash all over her body.
I am in favor of vaccination. But to require a vaccination without details (how produced, what is in the vaccine, how old is the vaccine, etc.) is way too heavy handed.
WHO and PAHO participated in a world-wide vaccination program but that ended on May 3.
So, what is going on here??
VictoriaLSTMemberThe Nuevo Arenal area is terrific for temperature. Seldom higher than 85 during the day and down to 65-70 at night for pleasant sleeping. We have friends who moved here from Colorado and love it. Great sense of community here as well with lots of activities.
VictoriaLSTMemberAnd the “why” of the ease of finding a B&B in CR is easy. There are a ton of them in receivership or bankrupt. Think about it.

Gas tax pays for highways? Nah – they raided that.
SS tax pays for retirement income? Nah – they raided that. What else have they raided?
VictoriaLSTMemberGPS is great here.
Insurance is $13.99 to 19.99 a day. If they try to charge you more, you are being targeted as a dumb tourist.
My favorite for rentals is Adobe. For a rental at the Liberia airport talk to Orlando at Adobe.
VictoriaLSTMemberImperial Lite. OK, I’m a wimp. Laffe is good for a change though.
May 9, 2014 at 10:20 pm in reply to: Why not tell the truth about what life is like in Costa Rica? #202201VictoriaLSTMemberIt all comes down to choices. If you are unhappy with the choices you made, are still making, you need to make a change.
VictoriaLSTMemberdavidd, you are a bad bad boy. I like that.
VictoriaLSTMemberOver $500 for a three day car rental? This almost happened to us when we first arrived. We had booked online and then the rental company tried to charge us $65 a day for the insurance. BUT – I had read the law on insurance. $13.99 to $19.99 a day. It was a battle, but we got the car for $13.99 a day in insurance. Like many other things, know what you are doing.
VictoriaLSTMemberMy biggest concern with a used car in CR is that there seems to be no law against rolling back the odometer.

It seems a bit like having someone try to teach you about all of Shakespeare’s plays after he read the Cliff Notes on “Hamlet”.
VictoriaLSTMemberCIMA will usually give you an estimate
VictoriaLSTMemberWe have a PO box at the Nuevo Arenal post office. If you don’t have one, you can still have mail delivered at the office and the postmaster calls you to let you know you need to pick it up.
VictoriaLSTMemberAnd stay out of the Central Valley
