We have a friend on crutches – CAJA says two years before they do her hip replacement. Just another reason why socialized medicine, whether it’s CAJA or Obamacare, is a bad idea.

So I emailed the “info” address but they say they don’t sell seeds, sprouted or otherwise. They just sell Tempeh. Sigh.

Perhaps next year’s elections here in CR will find the country with a leader who has experience in business and business growth steps. Such a leader might recognize that CR is indeed “shooting itself in the foot” when dealing with expats.

Oh, by the way, pray for a heavy rainy season. One of the problems is that Lake Arenal is way down and not ‘doing its part’ in generating power.

There was an interesting point about ceiling fans. Does turning them off really save significantly?

Initial cost was $1,800. Second opinion, ENT consult and second surgery – $1,200. Final surgery at CIMA, $5,400. Trips to and from San Jose, with hotels …. priceless (not).

Little countries with limited resources need to ‘make nice’ with superpowers as a matter of policy. CR seems to be doing an ok job in that respect.

As to the fast food, Chinese fast food places have been found to put cardboard in their food as an extender. I’d rather have a burger.

Ah, the troll under the bridge. I remember the story, “Three Billie Goats Gruff”.

    The goats win, btw.

Not that I want to be called a ‘goat’, but I do live in CR.

A couple of us on this forum have worked in social services – non-governmental.

Had a woman once tell me why she got pregnant. Her reply? “He’s (her nearly 17 year old son) going to be off the welfare soon.” And she picked a vet to father her child. She said she picked him for his benefits.

Or the mother of 7 who got her welfare under her maiden name, saying she was a single mom, because her husband made too much money “for the welfare”.

The system is broken. It needs to be fixed.

    Dog fight!

How about this: I love my country, not so crazy about my government.

So, why a country with a socialist system?

We chose CR for a lot of positives. No standing army, great climate, friendly people, not a lot of lawyers, first rate healthcare (which we pay for). Don’t give a hoot for its social medicine system.

As for ‘entitlements’ – there are earned benefits and unearned benefits. Social Security is an earned benefit. Welfare is an unearned benefit – subculture. Some day, everyone has to learb TANSTAAFL

Actually, I’ve never thought that a government plan should cover everything. Come to think of it, why is the government in the health insurance business at all. Or the flood insurance business. The government doesn’t seem to be very good at ‘business’. The president was never ‘in business’.

“provide for the common defense” – ok, government does that
“promote the general welfare” – with things like interstate roads, standards for air, water, food (maybe they should stick to that and stop trying to provide for individual welfare)
“secure the blessings of liberty” – hmmmmmmmm
